QUOTE(joanalooidog @ Jul 25 2007, 01:29 PM) she is now 7 months old lu.....got undershoot teeth liao, but still not very serious, but not that nice already. When she close her mouth, some times will show off the teeth at the rite side, like senget smile (imagine Edison Chen Guan Xi from HK smile lah). Whenever i see that, i'll push her mouth a bit, then she'll shut her mouth completely, looks nicer. undershot teeth nice mah.... shih tzu standard hahahah. If your Fifi can close without showing her teeth, means standard shih tzu loh. After a yr then decide lah....mayb Pets Family, coz got a big mirror, can see inside when the groomer is grooming. I hope I wont bring FIFI for full grooming, unless serious cases like ticks and fleas........A shih tzu with very very short fur looks like....... Now still fluffy, love to squash and squeeze her. A shih tzu with short fur looks like a lamb.... or alien.... QUOTE(jtl @ Jul 25 2007, 05:48 PM) I guess would be available other pet stores. I am not too sure la. There are other brands too, can't remember now though. wahhh.... I thought I was the only one who likes doggy smell hahaha.Personally, I don't use perfume on my own dogs. I like their doggy smell |

QUOTE(Syrian @ Jul 25 2007, 10:06 PM) hun .... all shih tzus have undershoot teeth. But if the shih tzu can close his mouth without showing the teeth, it means that he is a standard one. On the other hand, if he closes his mouth but then showing the teeth, then it means that he's not that standard, izzit ? Yah, all shih tzus should have undershot teeth.... but there are those that close mouth also got teeth come out. It is an undesirable trait. I have seen shih tzu with normal bite, no undershot.... I mean, if you follow the standard lah, a shih tzu should have an undershot jaw, no overshot or normal.... shih tzus should have a muzzle no longer than 1 inch. The eyes have to round and bright, not bulgy or too prominent... if you are not choosy... then no need to bother but if me, I would lah if I have to pay Rm1200 for a shih tzu hahaha. |

The best age to start training is 2 months.... but the training needs to be about 5 minutes... yah, Kimmie is right, puppies below 6 months got short attention span.... very playful and get bored easily.

Well, ear mites are tiny little parasites that eat the skin and lay eggs in the ears.... very itchy and irritating, causing the dog to scratch and scratch.... but I can only assume since online mah. Just bring now to be sure.... if it really is ear mites, the vet will give you ear drops to apply.what symptom does having ear mite shows ler??? im so worried now coz i jus use a brush to brush out all the dead skin...its almost like a teaspoon full |

QUOTE(Syrian @ Jul 26 2007, 04:07 PM) for shih tzu .. i dun really like tricolour one. Jz my personal preference Black and whites are the nicest for me. Very contrasting and it used to be common but then dunno why later all like to breed tri-colour.... Black and whites are nice for shows. Also can hide away dirt ahhahah.Added on July 26, 2007, 4:07 pmJz a preference but not easy to find .. hehe. QUOTE(jaunty_niel @ Jul 26 2007, 05:35 PM) Well, he could have lived longer coz I found out he got heart failure too late.... if I had found out earlier, he maybe can live up to 15 years.... but heart failure caught up. So best is when your shih tzus go to senior age around 6 years.... do a heart scan... ultrasound lah. I will be doing for Chelsea soon since her breed is prone to heart disorders but then when do ultrasound, need to shave the fur at the chest hahah....Yah, he looks small.... mainly I think coz fur all short coz that pic I just finish cutting his hair.... but his weight is 5kg coz he lost weight during old age. In his younger days, he was 6kg+.... quite a standard weight. |

You can see the shadows of those organs and how they move.... beating and all can see but you won't hear anything lah. |

Hmmm.... I can't remember how much it cost.... coz my dad paid the bill. Anyway, check your breed guide.... if your dog is prone to heart disease, do it at age 2... It is not compulsory to do it. Get your vet to check the heart by listening to it.... if there are complications, then only do ultrasound.

The common name for that skin mite problem is Mange. Also known as Scabies.... you will need to continue with the jabs, wash all of your dog's blankets, towels, cage with diluted Bleach. Your dog would need sulfur shampoo bath to ease the itching.... can get McLee's sulfur shampoo or whatever you can find at petshop, the shampoo is not that expensive, less than RM20 normally. It helps stop the itching and promotes skin recovery too.
What your vet said is true, it comes from outside the house. Mange will never show up in clean houses. Added on July 27, 2007, 10:51 pm QUOTE(jaunty_niel @ Jul 26 2007, 10:52 PM) does feeding heartguard prevent heartfailures or it oni prevent heartworms? Heartguard is to prevent heartworms..... heart failure is a disease, not parasite.... the heart valves weaken, making the heart pump extra faster, causing stress and bloating of the heart to double or triple the normal size. The bloating can cause a dog to drink more water, which instead of drinking it the water enters the lungs which in the end can cause the dog to drown. Early detection helps and there will be heart drugs to be taken for the rest of the dog's life. how regular should the ultrasound scan be? QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 26 2007, 11:11 PM) Normally a dog is still developing at the age of 2.... but it can be detected at 2 years old through listening to the heart and examination by the vet. If the sound of the heart beating is off or sounds weird, the vet would ask for an ultrasound.... early detection can prolong your dog's life.... but there is not cure for heart failure.... you can only delay the disease by letting your dog take medication for life. My boxer's heart medication was RM300 a month.... This post has been edited by crazymouse_yyh: Jul 27 2007, 10:51 PM |

QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 28 2007, 01:53 AM) thx ar crazymouse...u super geng ler know so many infoz de ahakz.... Hahah.... my info all from experience loh.... sharing information with you guys is good so that all of you can detect problems early.... mine all too late.must b crazy bout animals....consider of being a veterian??or are u one now? how long would it take for the jab to take effect ler?? coz mikey is still scratching now...although a bit lesser but still he is scratching... Veterinarian? Was my dream.... sadly I'm not one now or in the future, no money or qualifications to study It will take a few days to kill of the 1st batch of mites.... your Mikey will still scratch for these 2 weeks.... then later you won't see much scratching lah. The next time you jab, you are gonna kill the 2nd batch of mites.... coz the 1st batch are the adults, the 2nd batch are mites that hatched from the eggs that were laid by the 1st batch adults. The injections have to kill the entire population so that your Mikey can be free of the mites. |

QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 30 2007, 01:32 PM) jaunty..ma fan u a while ar...can u gv me a more specific location ma...because i need to bring mikey to a vet for his eyes...suddenly got blue patch there.... Blue patch.... the vet never give anything? When a dog's eye turns bluish... it means it is reacting to a wound.... Coz my Chelsea had watery eyes which were slightly red due to allergy to shampoo(a new brand)... it caused her to scratch and hurt her eye. The eye turn bluish and I rushed to vet, thinking my dog went blind....But vet told me, it is the body reacting to the wound.... it needs to be treated with antibiotics ointment. I live in Setapak, most of the vet clinics here are very nice. My dog received 1 tube of eye medication and 5 antibiotic tablets, only RM22. QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 30 2007, 04:43 PM) i jus went to taman megah de yeoh veterinary clinic...i also jus kena cut throat like joanalooidog liao...the doc's consultation oni also cost RM42 adding his syrup and everything all cost me RM97..mikey's eyes are ok jus a little more watery so liddat...then he caught a cold also liao...so the doc jus tell me he got cold, gv me syrup and antibiotic...all sum up to RM97...is that justice???????!!!!!! That is the normal price from dr yeoh.... his price is high due to the amount of staff he has, clinic facilities and also location.i didnt go jaunty's suggested vet because when i went there it was closed...so i had no choice... nex time don dare go there edi...zZz.... QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 30 2007, 09:54 PM) their nose there will be wet-er than usual and you sometimes can see some drops of water around their nose and ya they will sneeze de... Dr Yeoh is a he.... his clinic has a few vets, so you happen to go there when dr yeoh was away. You see, he is a very busy man so he is not always around.... when going to his clinic and you want his consultation, call the clinic 1st to ask.about dr. yeoh...is a he/she ah?? coz the one i met today was a she...and well thanks goodness i went to a gd doc then coz i thought i kena con because this is my 1st visit to the vet on cold...but i will still go and check out Right Angle vet one day...^^ |

Yeoh clinic has a lot of staff.... just like if you go to Animal Medical Center, you will also pay a similar amount coz they have lots of staff.... but shops with only 1 or 2 vets, cheap consultations....

QUOTE(jaunty_niel @ Jul 31 2007, 05:53 PM) ya, its mainly my whole house. my mom changed 7 bed sheets this week. 3rooms. everytime she go into da room 2 take some stuffs, 2 dogs go in wee wee. That is one of the faults of shih tzu... it is quite common. This happens when shih tzus get excited... the flap at the back of the throat tightens and relaxes all at once, causing breathing difficulties. So far it did not affect my old shih tzu that much. He had it very often, vet cannot do anything. The only way to control is relax him. Stroke the back, hold his body and make him calm.without her noticing. now she sticks all da notice around da house, asking us 2 close every door after we go in or go out a room. 2day, i brought Prince to the vet again. he was having seizure. the doc could not diagnose anything till Prince had his seizure over there. i did not quite notice dat he did have this kinda symptoms till 2days ago he played wif jack2 and tis happened. he was breathng very hard, sounded like snorring, den he went down, sorta like break down. da whole process oni lasted around 10secs, and when we're not around no 1 actually realised it. when he was with me in PJ, wif jack2 n xun2, nth happened. he was just breathing heavily all da time, like he got something stuck inside after playing wif my jack2 n xun2. now the doc refer me 2 Dr.Prem, ask me 2 take him for bloodtest, ultrasound and x-ray 2gether again. leave him there for them to observe. so wat can i do now? i'm so frus. i hv asthma myself, and my bro has epilepsy. he just recovered and jus stopped visiting da hospital. sigh. hope he'd get well soon. my mom is afraid dat he might jus pass away in our hands n its like our fault but the vet told me Prince has maltreatment. he did not take full monthly heartguard, no 3months check up, no health card. the previous owner and her friend jus called me. they claimed dat Prince had the same symptoms b4 but they thought he was running out of breath cos he stuff his nose into the golden retriever's private part to smell. isit possible dat he can stuff his nose in? n get short of breath? any advise pls.. It is not something stuck in the nose, it is a genetic problem in most shih tzus.... this is why I say earlier, better not to breed if you are unsure of their health background. You do not need a blood test.... ask Dr Prem to check his lungs and airway, you will only need a Ultrasound I think..... Xray can't see much. Added on July 31, 2007, 9:10 pm QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Jul 31 2007, 06:13 PM) Watda ? The sound from "lungs filled with water" doesn't sound like snoring or snorting.... it is more like a very rough gruntty wheeze. Not all of this can be saved by making a hole to drain the water. Sometimes it is too internal, that the dog needs to take injections to get rid of the water.prince stuff his nose inside WHAT? INSIDE the Gr's private part? U Mean The ASShOL* ? I watched animal planet, The programme is "Emgerency Vet" A dog is also panting like prince.. Like sorta not enough breathe. The doc said "lung is filled with water" And so they dunoe use wad kinda equiment and juz punch inside the stomach and get the excess liquid out that makes the dog panting for air to breathe. I hope prince is not worst to this condition.. pray... This post has been edited by crazymouse_yyh: Jul 31 2007, 09:10 PM |
