Completed in 2003, the Human Genome Project (HGP) was a 13-year project coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health. During the early years of the HGP, the Wellcome Trust (U.K.) became a major partner; additional contributions came from Japan, France, Germany, China, and others. Project goals were to

* identify all the approximately 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA,
* determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA,
* store this information in databases,
* improve tools for data analysis,
* transfer related technologies to the private sector, and
* address the ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) that may arise from the project.

Though the HGP is finished, analyses of the data will continue for many years. Follow this ongoing research on our Milestones page. An important feature of the HGP project was the federal government's long-standing dedication to the transfer of technology to the private sector. By licensing technologies to private companies and awarding grants for innovative research, the project catalyzed the multibillion-dollar U.S. biotechnology industry and fostered the development of new medical applications.

C, dulu banyak orang make survey in the restorant, LRT station & etc. They sell our infor to company. Now lagi teruk, besides internet survey, i believe bank staff also sell apart of the client info to other company.

sometime receive call & letter from these company. Very annoying. Imagine they use your DNA in Anwar incident, how????

I am one of those ass scientists. And no, we won't just blatantly use your DNA in Anwar's case.

Despite it's name, and looking at the main page of the 1Malaysia Human Genome Variation Consortium, it looks like it might be more related to the National Geographic's Genographic Project. There is also a wikipedia page. The project is ongoing.

Of course they do. All companies sell your info. Most people already know this. The bank you get your credit card from. Your insurance company. Your hire purchase company. The car dealer. The telephone company. The utilities. Every company you have ever come into contact with. Every website you register with.

New account and first post???

The only reason I created this account is to reply to the person I quoted in my first post. Calling us 'ass scientist' is uncalled for and I think the people who have been working for this project does not really deserve to be called that. Many of our people complained about how Malaysia is way behind in terms of research compared to other countries. And right now, we are seriously trying to make an effort here.

We are not in collaboration with the National Geographic's Genographic project (no partnership), although the idea is somewhat similar. Next-generation sequencing is the best technology today in hoping for a better understanding of human and its genome, which is why scientists from other countries are doing the same thing.
The aim of this project is to sequence our ethnic groups and build an online database of Malaysian Population. Although humans from all around the world have already sequenced the whole human genome, most of the databases online are for Caucasians, Europeans, and for Asians mostly the databases comes from a Japanese or a Chinese.
What we are really hoping to achieve is to build our own database, of our own people. Where we can study our similarities and differences, which can lead to better understanding of common diseases and their susceptibility to us due to our genome, among other things.

You mean those projects that opened up all the possibilities of curing diseases that your grandparents wouldn't even dare to dream of? And those scientists who worked so hard (and with so little reward in return) to realise these projects?

Questions & view: (Scientis said for better future)

1) Giant Battle Ants- of cos for military reserch purpose.
2) Human revolution. The true intension of this reserch, i believed the want to make human have many animal instinct power. (like SCI- movie or comic). Applying diferecence create DNA in a body That make it have 3 ability. The result will be the bigger issue, bcos mostly SCI- Movie end up like zombie or monster.
