Weird, seldom ppl asked about microsolar as it is quite hard to find a microsolar dealer but would b a good idea to add in the poll

By just asking around, i found out why some contractors quote a high price for solar piping

1) Copper pipes are exp and there is a risk of the pipes getting stolen before laying the tiles. Contractors will nd to bear the risk, so they hike up the price to reduce their risk of making a loss.

2) Some contractors dont even know how solar heater works, they do not wan to get involved with troublesome work, so they give u a high price to demotivate u to install a solar.

If you get a professional plumber to quote the job, it would b most likely much cheaper compared to a contractor.

For those who are interested in getting a solar and you wanna know whatz the difference between all the solar in the market, u feel free to ask or debate here.

Hi Halcyon,
I have installed the polypipe for hot water and completed all the house plumbing works. From the information you have provided it seems my hot water piping is not adequately suitable for Microsolar brand. Is Solarwave brand acceptable for my House?  I am of impression Solarhot, Microsolar, Summer and Solarwave  all are tube heating type whereas Mysolar are panel heating type. I am also of impression only Solarhot and Microsolar does not require additional Tnb supply for heating the water on cloudy days, whereas other brands require Tnb supply thus additional yearly electricity cost.
In my findings with limited resources, excluding Solarhot (expensive Australia Brand),  Microsolar is the best in terms of material made, heating capacity, not require additional tnb supply, better efficiency but price is expensive and only 2 years warranty. Whereas Summer, Solarwave and Mysolar comes in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in terms of price, efficiency and all requires additional tnb supply and such extra yearly cost, all 3 comes with 2 years guarantee and 8 to 9 years warranty. Is it true Microsolar is fully Msia made whereas Solarwave is China made and Msia assembled? Please give me some pointers to choose among the above mentioned or other brands in term of efficiency, low initial cost, fast ROI, long lasting, good after sale service. Tq

Microsolar is the longest lasting highest temperature solar water heater, we have customers from 22 years ago 1996 water still hot. No other solar water heater in Malaysia lasts that long? Although the Microsolar warranty against manufacturing defects is 3 years, if the unit can last 3 years it means no manufacturing defects, in actual fact the Microsolar will outperform and outlast many other solar water heaters (of course assuming all brands of solar water heaters are serviced regularly once every 4 to 5 years against the dirt and sediment and limescale prevalent in Malaysian tap water. Having a whole house water filter is recommended. ) There is no point in having a 10 or 15 years warranty when the water is not hot or the company closes after 4 years, or if the unit starts to leak after 4 years.. Similarly having a large capacity solar water heater is of no use if the water is not hot after two years due to clogging of bottleneck piping of single vavle solar heaters. Look for efficiency high temperature multi vavle and no electricity usage like Microsolar.

I have this experience 2yrs ago at mt.k. 1 of the hostel is using microsolar. I think got 2unit. But by the night time, it not enough hot water for the occupant. So my friend have to come to my hostel to take shower. Which is an instant heater.

Don't think solar heater is suit for hostel. Even with heater, you need to always ON it.

Even tho Microsolar produces the most hot water/highest temperature per square meter of panel , there are limits as to what the most efficient solar heater can do. We have to be realistic, please plan for your number of pax carefully. But Microsolar is very suitable for hostels and hotels as it is the most efficient in the world, ie shortest ROI. The largest solar water installation in Malaysia at UCSI University Taman Connaught 2017 see www.microsolarsystem.com using no electricity . Most UCSI University campuses in Malaysia, Taman Connaught, Taman Taynton Le Quadri Hotel, Marang Kuala Trengganu, Kuching, Bandar Springhill Port Dickson, are using Microsolars for their thousands of students without electricity. No problem there..

Mount Kinabalu at Laban Rata 3200m above sea level , imcoming water temperature 5C, the Microsolars can still heat up the water without electricity to 40C to 50C in cloudy weather, other solar water heaters cannot do that. But max number of pax supported per Microsolar is 8 pax, therefore for two Microsolars 220 litres each at Pendant Hut the max no of pax is 16. The larger Microsolars 330 litres could not be carried up by porters so two units of 220 litres Microsolar was installed. The problem is often there are 30 to 40 pax in the Hut taking showers, plus kitchen usage, but heard some management personnel said do not want to install more Microsolars, they are all rugged climbers, can withstand cold water showers... ... so moral of the story is, if properly planned for the number of pax showers, Microsolar is the best solution for heating water without electricity.

I bought the M60VTHE for RM4750 in 2008. Installation costs another RM300.

It is same problem wasting the same amount of water from the extra tank.

Insulate the copper pipe if you can.

You can use those aircon copper pipe foam insulate tube. Cheap also.

This prove to be effective by 1 of the guy here who done that last time.
*
Yes do not put any tank whether insulated or not between the Microsolar and the hot water shower, it will only increase the "dead water" heat loss and wastes hot water . Use only half inch hot water piping and insulate it if possible. Plan your piping layouts and Microsolar locations so that the hot water piping between Microsolar and shower head must be as short and as small diameter as possible.

Microsolar Water Heaters survived the earth quake on Mount Kinabalu in 2015, see facebook Microsolar System Water Heaters. Only one interconnecting pipe fitting socket on the roof was broken, it was quickly repaired when the repair teams went up the next week.

So far in 24 years of installations of Microsolars in Malaysia, thousands of units installed, only two customers not happy. First customer in Taman Bukit Prima Cheras, house surrounded by trees with occasional monkeys, we installed 20140813 everything ok, vent pipes intact and upright, no leaks , water is hot, handed over to customer , pics emailed to customer showing vertical vent pipes on handing over day, no leaks etc.

One month later 20140908, Client emails pics showing one of the vent pipes is bent over at 45 deg, water pouring out, probably monkey damage but customer did not believe. Said we did not install properly, said vent pipe was bent over from installation day. We said how could it be that for one month no leaking, the water was hot, the pics on handing over at installation day showed the vent pipes vertical, and the customer had accepted the handing over? If the vent pipe had been bent over from installation day the water would have been pouring out for one month. He would have complained in the first week , not one month later. Now over the years experience before this incident, we have had many customers in UK Heights, Ampang, Bukit Antarabangsa, Kuang, etc next to the forests or next to trees, complaining of monkey damage . One customer in UK Heights 4 storey apartment even saw monkeys climbing up the rainwater downpipes to the roof and pulling down the Microsolar vent pipes to drink the water during the hot season, when the water burnt their lips they would beat the Microsolar tank in anger, pull the other pipes, etc etc, apparently they do not wnat to go down to the ground to drink water during the hot season, they prefer to stay up on the roofs )..We have so many pics of monkey damage and we had to tie up the vent pipes with barbed wire ..But customer did not like it that we charged him to repair the vent pipe.. we cannot repair damage by other parties , animals included , for free, our workers have to be paid a nominal sum....So because of one unbelieving customer we have so much misunderstanding on forums like lowyat, please see both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions.

The other customer at Taman Hijau, UK Heights, Ampang, 2015 complaint was he said we installed on wrong side of roof. What actually happened was that we had done a site inspection together a few months before and confirmed install facing front south east, the customers signed off on the drawing installation location facing front, South east. The house side extension facing north east was not built/not completed yet. The contractor was supposed to pull the hot and cold piping to that front side of the house, and the customer verified that this had been done before requesting installtion. But unknown to the customer, the contractor had pulled the piping there, it was far away on the new extension roof facing north east. So when we arrived on site 1000hrs we telephoned the customer who was not on site, that the piping was far away, despite his assurance that his contractor had pulled the piping to the location of Microsolar. The customer insisted that the piping was indeed pulled to the front of the house as was agreed, and when he arrived at 1230 hrs, he was still insisting that his contractor had pulled the pipes there. But then his contractor pulled him aside, and they had a discussion, then the customer changed his mind at 1300hrs therabout on installation day, saying it had been agreed to put the Microsolar on the side extension facing north east all along. We have his signature on the Microsolar location drawing facing south east front. This was totally against what had been signed by him and furthermore we said facing north east is not good for Malaysia as stated in our Order form.

And the fact that the new extension roof had not been constructed when we did our joint site visit with customer few months ago and when we agreed on the front roof installation, shows we could not have agreed to the new north east roof location cos we did not know how the north east roof would be constructed. Actually it seemed the contractor did not want to pull the piping to front roof cos of some payment dispute, but we somehow got caught into this dispute and the customer and contractor tried to get us to install the missing piping length which should have been installed by the contractor, for free. Fortunately we have the signed documents confirming Microsolar location. at front of house facing south east and pictures of the first site visit that show the north east roof had not yet been constructed . And yet another example of one sided reporting on Low Yat Forum.. That is why we have extensive documentation covering all aspects of the Microsolar installation.

Here my another side of story.

My friend microsolar solar heater broke down early this yrs. Call them to have a check what's wrong. The unit is about 3-4yrs old I guess.

To call them comeover, the charge is RM600 ! That's not included the parts.

It is in the Klang valley. Not others state.

So I need to know is it true and why so expensive.

He now abandon the solar heater not to repair it.

[/quote

yes very sad...the person in question did not want to hear and put down the phone...the quotation is only an estimate and items not required to be replaced will be refunded...his microsolar is 8.5 years old and based upon normal change of valves at this age the cost of servicing will be around rm600.00. (costs for getting a malaysian skilled plumber up onto the roof have gone up quite a lot over the last 10 years..other foreign plumbers may not have the skills to properly service the unit)
..our other microsolars are up to 22 years old still giving hot water because our plumbers are skilled. Saving a few hundred ringgit by getting unskilled plumbers might jeopardise the unit and could be a false economy...Each 220 litres microsolar saves about rm100.00 per month.( ref www.microsolarsystem.com) ..that is rm1200.00 per year savings for family of 4 pax..of this we recommend customers set aside 10% that is rm120.00 per year for servicing maintenance. Considering the dirty limescale muddy water in klang valley that seems a good practice...thus a budget per year for servicing on microsolar is rm120 per year..this customer's microsolar is 8.5 years old..that would indicate a service budget of 8.5 x rm120 = rm 1020 but our estimate was much less than that...
so it is sad the customer did not want to listen and instead put down phone...if he abandoned the unit it is his loss because probably the microsolar can last for another 10 over years but what can one say...if he bought another brand solar water heater he would have spent rm4000.00 more and it may not be as hot nor last as long as microsolar...so we are focussed on good quality workmanship to ensure the long term benefits for the customer.. of course one of the consequences of having a long lifespan solar water heater is some microsolar customers say wow your costs have gone up ...yes but they forget they purchased the microsolar back in the early 2000s when costs were low..now it is 10 yesrs or more with inflation but do mot forget the microsolar has been saving the customer money since the day of installation..

He now abandon the solar heater not to repair it.

yes very sad...the person in question did not want to hear and put down the phone...the quotation is only an estimate and items not required to be replaced will be refunded...his microsolar is 8.5 years old and based upon normal change of valves at this age the cost of servicing will be around rm600.00. (costs for getting a malaysian skilled plumber up onto the roof have gone up quite a lot over the last 10 years..other foreign plumbers may not have the skills to properly service the unit)
..our other microsolars are up to 22 years old still giving hot water because our plumbers are skilled. Saving a few hundred ringgit by getting unskilled plumbers might jeopardise the unit and could be a false economy...Each 220 litres microsolar saves about rm100.00 per month.( ref www.microsolarsystem.com) ..that is rm1200.00 per year savings for family of 4 pax..of this we recommend customers set aside 10% that is rm120.00 per year for servicing maintenance. and white goods service technician charge rm 70.00 per visit but they do not have to bring lorry, ladders, equipment up to roof...moreover normal plumbers do not want to climb up to roof...if you can find somebody who is skilled plumber and will climb roof and only charge rm70.00 then let us know thanks...

😆 point taken! 6.5 years ROI already recouped. So the story was one sided. Thks for sharing sir!  👍

Hopefully, the service and upkeep aspect can be incorporated into the manual and agreement so that future customers know what to expect.

The monkeys when living near forests...that's a new heart wrenching aspect. Home owners if repairing roof by another roof guy should make it clear that if they ever touch the solar heater there'll be a penalty charge.

Yes that is an example of a customer who jump to conclusions and did not think about what he is saying, just blaming the Microsolar installers for no reason.
Customers house is highest house at top of hill in Cheras, surrounded by forest. We installed 20140813 customer accepted handing over, both vent pipes straight up, no leaking. We sent pics to customer of the installation, showing both vent pipe vertical. One month later 20140908 customer emailed pics of vent pipe pushed over at 45 deg to vertical, water overflowing out. We repaired, now the vent pipe is normally tightened very tight by spanner on installation day, cannot be blown down by wind. But our plumbers when they went to repair one month later, 20140910 , found that it had been pushed down by unknown parties, and based upon the location of house hilltop surrounded by trees we said it could be monkeys .Customer did not believe. But if the vent pipe had not been secured properly, it would have fallen over on day one, not one month later, and the water would have been pouring out from day one. And it would have fallen right down 90 degrees to the roof, not remained standing at 45 deg just enough for the water to start pouring out. It had been forcibly bent down.

And the leaking piping on the roof, what happened was on installation day , we found that the clients plumber had not prepared the hot and cold piping and ball vavles in the ceiling although the client had signed off that these had been provided. First he was not happy that our plumbers charged him RM150 for these two hot water ball vavles which should have been provided by his plumber. We emailed a report on the installation to the client 20140814 to please connect the missing piping as we had to leave the hot water pipes coming down from the roof tiles dangling from the roof tiles in the ceiling attic cos no hot water pipes to connect to.

So probably what happened was when the clients plumber came back and belatedly did the connection to the hot water piping in between 20140813 and 20140908 he could have disturbed or broken the water proofing seal where our pipes came in thru the roof tiles. This was probably the cause of the leaking that client complained about but all these issues would have been avoided if the client's plumber had just done his work as was agreed and as had been confirmed by client as already done before requesting installation of Microsolar. This leak was easily solved when our plumber resealed the pipe penetration thru the tiles on 20140910 when our plumber returned to the site to repair the monkey damage to the vent pipe.

It shows the importance of clients making sure their plumbers have done their work to put all the hot and cold piping in place before requesting Microsolar installation. One of the reasons being like what happened here, if the Clients household hot water pipes are missing on microsolar installation day, it means the clients plumber has to make the connections after the microsolar installation, and they may not always check to reseal the roof tiles penetrations . Of course it is difficult for them to check cos they are working in the ceiillng attic and may not be aware that they have disturbed or broken the seals on the roof tiles above. And with so many people working on the roof after we have left over one month we cannot be sure what actually happened, but we know the roof attic hot water piping was connected after we left the site.

and we notice the customer conveniently , after complaining our service repair charge of the broken vent pipe by other parties ( maybe monkeys as explained above), was expensive at rm350, which was again an estimate based upon his pictures sent of the broken vent pipe, ( we were afraid the inside socket welding was broken, which would cost rm 350) , when our people did the actual repair they found fortunately the welded socket had not been broken ( monkeys arms are very strong, they can bend stainless steel metal piping easily) , the customer conveniently forgot to mention the eventual cost of repair, with truck and long ladders and team of two Malaysian workers was only rm150....so it is easy to hide behind the anonyimity of low yat forum and complain about microsolar without owning up to face the facts...client did not mention we had sent him pictures of vertical vent pipes intact, no leaking on day of installation when we handed over, after installation was complete. we resent these pics to him purposely one month after installation, when he complained of the tipped over vent pipe , before we went to rectify the monkey damage in case he said these pics were taken after our rectification work one month later..we still have these pics in our email records. that is why client does not want to follow up on this case but instead choose anonymously to post on low yat forum..client did not mention that his hot water pipes were missing on installation day despite his signed confirmation that the hot and cold connections had been provided in the ceiling attic...did not mention our detailed installation report sent to him two days after installation to tell him about the missing piping and to instruct his plumber to do the missing hot water piping..client says nobody went up there after we left on installation day..that is not true...his plumber went up to ceiling attic or roof to install the missing household hot water piping to the microsolar pipes...it is possible with all the handling and shaking, twisting of our pipes in the ceiling attic the silicon seal was broken at the point where it penetrated the tiles..normally any plumber would reseal the roof tile penetration hole after doing such work close to the roof tile penetration point ... it only takes five minutes and a rm15 tube of silicon sealant but this was not done by clients plumber...so we do not appreciate such agressive language when in all probability the rainwater leakage theu roof tiles was caused by his own defiency in not ensuring his plumber had the hot water pipes ready before requesting microsolar installation.... or by his deficiency in not ensuring his plumber resealed the roof tile penetration holes after his plumbers belated work in ceiling attic/roof after microsolar installation....of course if the hot and cold pipes had been ready on installation day then yes nobody would need to go up to the roof after we complete our work and no such rainwater leakage would occur...if such leakage did occur we would repair it foc..but in this case the clients plumber did extensive work in installing all the hot water piping in ceiling attic in the intervening one month after we had completed installation...the house was empty still under construction for that month...client said his is sure no monkeys went up...how is he sure...there are no guards 24/7 there..empty house under construction next to forest at top of hill..and he wants us to acccept responsibility for damage by other parties one month after installation...it is his poor project management to blame for the missing hot water and cold water piping on day of microsolar installation when we stated very clearly these had to be provided to avoid these types of problems...if he had just said no the hot and cold water pipes are not there yet we would not have installed but he confirmed in writing that the hot and cold pipes were there without checking whether it is true, and insisted us to install...so moral of story is please check your contractors work...dont just accept their word for it...and then try to shift blame to other suppliers like microsolar...however he is still our customer but in such cases where aggressive language is used we have to give notice that unless one can back up ones claims they should not post in public forums like low yat..
