Well since i notice alot of ppl facing problems wit crashes in BF3 , also since Nvidia GTX 560ti is quite a common gpu for most user
i'll jst start a new topic on some solution i did for my own setup. Im not sure if dis solution works for everybody or other gpu or AMD as well , but u can try. And if u have other solution, feel free to post it here.

Possible Random crashes/freeze fix:
When i first start the game, video setting preset is all on high setting. I figure dis is the game autodetect setting. But since im using 560ti SLI i know i can go higher than dat, so i set all to ULTRA except Antialiasing Deferred to 2x msaa. First 15 min smooth play constant 60fps no problems, then crash/freeze. Ctrl-alt-del back to win , start the game again play another 20 mins crash again. The time inbetween crashes happens randomly - sometimes i can play for 30mins , sometimes 10mins and crashes. I continued wit dis for 4 hour of gameplay wit dozens of crashes in between until i got fed up and start googling. It seems the crash/freeze is quite common and NVIDIA forum has tons of topic on dis issues. (theres even a specific topic for GTX560ti ). Some of the common solution they suggest is -

- revert to latest driver if ur on older driver. ( latest GeForce 285.62 Driver WHQL )
- roll back or use beta 285.38 ..
- flash ur GPU bios
- install win 64 bit if ur on 32bit..
- and lower ur graphic in-game setting until u dont crash anymore.

SO yesterday i start meddling wit some of this solution - BUT flashing my GPU bios was something i was reluctant to do, same wit installing window 64bit which means i have to reformat so i skip dis 2 method. Of coz the most OBVIOUS method was to update the graphic driver so i did ( i was on 285.27 before i update ). After update i stil have crashes. Then i revert to beta 285.38, but same thing. Well, the updating and rolling back graphic driver obviously didnt work for me so i guess driver is not the culprit.
So while MAINTAINING WIT 285.38( *will explain dis highlight later ) i get back into the in-game video setting and start meddling there.
When i highlight TEXTURE QUALITY it say in the description below dat higher setting uses more GPU memory. Then i recall back during those crashes i remember a few Of the crashes came wit a DirectX windows saying something dat my GPU not enough memory( cant remember exact words) So what i did was i lower TEXTURE Quality from Ultra to High and maintain all other setting to Ultra. Guess what?..No crash/freeze for 4 hours now!!! So happy . Now remember i said i did all this on 285.38 beta? Im not sure if the fix is a combination of dis driver or is just a simple lowerring the TExture quality setting. For watever driver u guys are currenly on ( 285.62 or 285.38 ) try to play wit the TEXTURE Quality setting first. See if it fix the crash problem. Now i realise why the in-game auto-detect to preset HIGH setting even if i myself presume i can go to Ultra wit 560ti SLI.

Possible SLI Flickering fix:
Before i start i wanna clarify dat there are many type of flickering. Some are color flickering, in-game object flickering( like for me CRYSIS 2 water flickering) and so on. The solution i have here MIGHT not work for ur type of flickering. SO The type of flickering i have for BF3 is those dat once u get into the game it flashes like mad . I have dis flickering problem ever since Nvidia introduce the 270 til 285 family of drivers for some of my games. Some of those games flikering problem are solved just by simply toggling wit V-Sync off-on, triple buffering off-on , alt-tab method or worse case scenario - disable SLI altogether. For Battlefield 3 im also facing SLI flickering out of the box, but finally i found the solution. BUT first and foremost..what is ur RESOLUTION CHOICE?
What resolution u intend to play? Example: For me i always play at 1920 × 1080 60hz. So what i did was just play witt the Fullscreen Resolution back and forth. Details here:

1. Choose ur intended resolution ( in my case: 1920 x 1080 60hz )
2. Skip next or previous resolution. ( for me it was 1920 x 1080 59.94hz )
3. CLICK APPLY FULLSCREEN RESOLUTION ( the screen will go blank half a sec rite? normal )
4. Then It will say " Save setting " rite?. Press YES. ( screen refresh but still flickering rite? )
5. Then Press previous resolution ( my case: back to 1920 x 1080 60hz) immediately the screen will refresh again BUT stil flickering?
6. Click " APPLY FULLSCREEN RESOLUTON again.
7. Again it say " Save setting" , press YES and DONE!! NO more FLICKERING..
8. If no more flickering dont press " Apply fullscreen resolution " again, just press esc or click "back"

The explanation above is not entirely accurate in order, but u still get the idea. Jst play wit the apply fullscreen resolution button, next & previous
fullscreen resolution, when prompted to save press Yes, than next again until u dont have any more flickering.
Unfortunately this method must b applied everytime u start the game, even when u alt-tab to windows coz if alt-tab back to game it goes back to flickering again.

Well hope dis helps so u guys can enjoys the game fully. Again if u have any solution feel free to post it here.

Possible Random crashes/freeze fix: yes, that is what i did few days ago. my texture quality was ultra before this, so i set it to high and voila, no 3-5 minutes crashes. although crashes still happen, but that was like after 2 hours, so i just wait for patch then while still playing the game.

I'm already on 285.38, I fixed my crashes by increasing GPU fan to 100% instead of auto, still crashes sometimes during day time, night time only smooth w/o crashing.

i finished already the campaign
i set ultra always kinda laggy, dunno why
so i set high. fine.

i'm using GTX 460 wit 285.38, GPU sets to lowest oso will freeze n crash...
da game i can play up to 5-10min...then it start again... have to reboot everytime...
seriously... i duno wat else i can do...

running on high settings since day 1 on my GTX560Ti, once in a while it will crash, but still bearable

if running on ultra setting on crash frequently, but will have artifact on screen when running around

temperature is around 78c for the gc

same here running asus 560ti top on latest driver..i lower the texture quality to high others on ultra with no AA since yesterday no more ctd.now running butterly smooth even with vsync on.

what frame you getting? i only get 50fps on average, if ultra i get average 40fps, but when a lot of explosion the fps will drop till very low

I get artifacts too when playing on some maps.

They should fix the color flashing/flickering for this game already. WTF is this, I always get green flashing screen for a frame/sec randomly.

I have played BF3 on 2 rigs for several hours with Nvidia & ATI card, and this screen flashing are happening on both. Sometimes it keep flashing for more than 5 seconds.

If you google thoroughly there are forums where people are mentioning about the same problems everywhere.

getting 50 to 60fps since i put vsync enable..seems that with vsync on the stuttering is gone..when explosion lowest is 45 fps..

I have tried the following solutions but it still crashes...
I can play a good 20-30 mins of bf3 then my screen suddenly turn black and I need to alt tab to my windows and open up task manager to terminate bf3 but the bf3 application is still running and it does not shows as not responding. Anyone have any clues or other solution to it?

Well; I myself have random crash on ATI; that bcoz I overclock the 5770 to 940Mhz from default 850Mhz... the solution was simple; set the FAN speed to manual (90%); seems the threshold is to get the gfx stable is to have below 85dC; even using a big HAF-X chassis not good enough on airflow

So dahsyat one have to think about flashing bios and everything... Quite thankful my cheapo ENGTS 450 can run the game identically to the trailer video with no problems.

Playing on high settings, no deferred msaa, HBAO etc on 1680x1050.

the sli flickering fix doesnt work for me... tried enabling/disabling vsync and triple buffering but still doesnt work... i tried the same way as u did and running on same resolution.... btw im using latest driver... any other way???

Lol, im glad im using ATI....that said sometime i kena the flickering issue. It's like 10 games kena once but if i esc and return game, it is able to fix the issue

I dont think you dont need go that far till flash bios
ALOT player are getting crash/freeze.

Here is some fix that work for me. SP and MP work differently

1. For MP crash, I just turn off my Steam client. If I on it, it crash less than 5 min after game launch, if off steam, doesnt seem have any problem after that.

2. FOr SP, I really dont have any idea. It still crash after i turn off steam, but it take long time b4 it crash/freeze again, if i remember correctly, turn off xfire also help.

3. I also felt that lower my graphic setting also help. Anything higher than Medium, chance you getting crash/freeze are high.

4. Wait for new patch...



Solution that suggested by TS

- revert to latest driver if ur on older driver. ( latest GeForce 285.62 Driver WHQL ) - possible
- roll back or use beta 285.38 .. - possbile- flash ur GPU bios - If salah flash, you can buang your GC already... need really go that extreme?- install win 64 bit if ur on 32bit.. - usually 32bit having less problem anyway, need buy a RETAIL OS for it, and they arent cheap as OEM
- and lower ur graphic in-game setting until u dont crash anymore. - yeap, agree on this, medium settings seems enough

Thanks for the suggestions... but i have set my video settings to the lowest and it still crashes.. Might try to revert to the beta 285.38 and see if it works or not. As flashing your bios, i am still having second thoughts on doing that because gigabyte, they came out a new bios and they stated it will improve the direct x11 performance

Just throwing this opinion out there... what RAM are you guys using ? Have you done stability tests on your RAM? Memtest86, Prime95.

For GTX560Ti, Freeze and Crash stop after i read somehwere in BF3 official forum about DLing Nvidia's additional driver(official) which allows you to control your GC's clock speed, set it to 850 rather than 1000.

That's how I got my Freeze and Crash issue stop, hope this helps.

for anyone having the 560ti crashes problem just downclock your clock speed and it fixes it.

This can be done by flashing bios or downloading overclock utility for the GPU. Just reset it back to stock speed of your 560ti. Proven to work 100%. This has been proven to work on GIGABYTE 560TI which is factory overclocked.

Lesson learn from this, do not buy superclock or overclock edition of GC. It will always have stability issue. Buy stock clock enough.

As for the SLI, just alt-tab out when the game starts and alt-tab back in the game and it will fix the issue. However you have to do it every start of next round. Kinda annoying but nvm as long as can play in peace of mind.

Im using GTX460 1 GB, first got some crashes after playing several times, then I update the nvidia driver to 8.17.12.8562 ,lower to medium setting (at first I set to highest setting), then walaa,not crash anymore

Instead of disturbing your driver that will cause something you may not wanted
try to find program that was conflict with BF 1st
I remember that I got crash because my Origin mati suddenly, and it tarik my BF3 sekali.

Program like Xfire also reported conflict with some game on certain rig

2) Go nvidia or ati forum seek information ralated about crash problem
3) Also go EA forum
4) turn off ur antivirus
5) Try Run ur battlelog in IE or Chrome..firefox is memory sucker
5） Lower ur battlefield 3 graphic setting or let it auto

This wat i do when i face this problem if not helping ..wait patch bah

Just turn off the AA.

Moral of the story : dun put highest setting unless ur rig/laptop is highest end rig
Just lower a bit from auto setting

it still doesnt work no matter what i do.... guess i have to play in window mode all the time....

bro, u can try dis method also:
1. For my earlier method i sugested, try to start the game at lowest resolution. Dat means apply the lowest resolution>quit game>join back.
Then from the lowest resolution click next>apply>save>next>apply>save etc etc until there's no more flickering. Try it.
2. At the in-game video setting there is a "Open Screen Adjust" option. try playing wit dat. Apply the changes, click back and save setting
3. And also do u have FRAPS installed? Try a combination of enable/disable FRAPS wit the above method and with my 1st page post method.

YES i agree. Flashing GPU Bios is always NOT Recommended. Dats y try to solve dis crashes/freeze wit simpler fixes- update driver, rollback driver, lower in-game video setting, etc etc. U can also try wit manually downclocking ur GPU like some ppl suggests. Flashing BIOS should always remain as the last option.

Regarding installing Windows 64bits is bcoz its also recommended by EA bcoz of the game using loads of ur ram memory.And also sometimes game crashes/freeze bcoz windows not enough memory. This solution should also be considered the last option bcoz like wat u mention it requires to spend $$ and the outcome could b dat it wil not solved the crash/freeze

ALSO Remember guys - when u update driver or revert driver, use the proper method. Example: Use driver sweeper, use official uninstaller , uninstall in safe mode.and so on..


Sry it could not help u. I forgot to mention, there is also a common suggestion from othere forum dat the crashes/freeze is sound related. Try googling it.

i have found da culprit for my freeze n crash... Damn... is da driver for your sounds at motherboard... i update it... now no more crash..

TRY installing FRAPS, its a very nice and harmless program. To answer ur question is it necessary to use fraps to make it work?
Well i can tell u dis- I remember one time i disable FRAPs b4 i join the game, and than i applied the same method i post earlier and guess wat? flickering problem was there. So i guess u could say Fraps helps, well for me la.

Meaning dont worry about it coz doesnt matter if u use 59hz or 60hz. And also if u notice Nvidia control panel will always stuck at 59hz even if u apply 60hz. The only way to apply 60hz u have to force it under customize resolution panel there.

Irrelevent I would say, mine was using Creative SOund Card, not typical onboard sound.
With low setting i manage to play longer, but still crash at the end.
I think only 1 solution = wait for patch.

Mine doesn't crash since day 1, except being disconnected from the server.

i use HD6770 1GDDR3,
only have sound not tele/rewind, but all ok after set SOUND Hardware to 16bit/48,000hertz/DVD Quality

I set everything to ULTRA with V-Sync on, have not encounter any crashes/freeze yet. Hope it remains that way

I personally feel BF3 is very much optimized for AMD cards... No offence, that's just my own opinion.

i dunno if i were the only one who facing this problem??

my pc met the requirement of bf3,
i still get crash when playing the game, then i download the latest nvidia driver so my bf3 works nicely without any crash...

BUT the PROBLEM is...

after I restart / shut down my pc, i will get the crash again when playing bf3.
the only way for me to avoid the game crash is keep re-installing the nvidia driver......

anyone know whats my problem??? why restart/shutdown will change my nvidia settings?

Bro, what do u mean by how to use??HAHa .. jst install FRAPS and it wil straight away enable. U see below there the icon fraps? Or jst click the icon at the deskstop shortcut > general page > tick the box :
1. Start Fraps minimized
2. Fraps windows always on top
3. Run fraps when widows start.

When u open any game u wil see the yellow color FPS overlay.
This fix should work for both single and multi.

AHAH. Good news Yeah i forgot to mention at my first post - Faulty SLI bridge will also cause SLI flickering. Urm but wait, for ur case u said dat u switch upside down - dat means position was wrong all dis while? lol. But how come u could play other games wit SLI enable?..

i just upgrade to SLI and havent test any other games with SLI enable yet.... i dont know if its in the wrong position all this time... i thought it was just simply install the SLI bridge and dont have any direction to install that....

yeah ive tried lowering the video setting to low but still getting freezes/hangs. it is so frustrating that reset my pc is the only way. the crash is random from 5-30 minutes only when playing mp. with sp on ultra is runs smoothly.

my spec:
qx9650 3.0ghz
gtx560ti
win7 64-bit
8gb ram

all exceeded recommended requirements. it is related to intrnet connection? it requires minimum 1mbps but my intrnet cnection only 512 kb/s.

any1 can suggest anything? ive had veryyyyy high hopes for bf3...dun make me turns to mw3 haha

i'm using GTX 460 SE... try declock GPU, upgrade PSU, updated nvidia driver, update bios driver... also same... Game will freeze after 5-10min wit looping sound after playing...
Then one last try... i updated the sound driver which normally soundcard intergrated with motherboard.. as Bios driver update, it doesnt update the sound driver as its indepedent...
Try update ur sound driver by searching ur motherboard online & under utilities, download the new sound driver...
it helps me... now no more game freeze... playing with Medium resolution... wit GTX 460 SE

Hope this help u guys with other GPU... no harm trying...

i am using gigabyte 560 ti. previously had all this CTD, freeze issue after few minutes of gameplay.. but after updated the GPU Bios (download from gigabyte website), i can play for about 1 hour without crash.. also set the setting in auto (high).

anyone playing this in windows 7 64bit? is it better compare to windows 32bit?

Eh im also using giga 560ti..i solved crash issue by downclock the core from 900 to 823Mhz..
so u just update bios without downclock the core speed? link please..

*previously was set low due to crash issue.. the game graphic even look nice with low.. now we can set high to play, the graphic is totally impress.. very nice environment.. great game

i sometimes got freeze in game, sometimes got the green linear dots/line. zzz

ive tried underclock my gtx560 ti from 880 to 800 using msi afterburner....also set the fan at 100% but somehow the freezes/hangs still happened.

the only difference is that i can play longer before freezes, around 20 to 30 minutes instead of 5 6 minutes previously.

so sad

really hope EA will fix this very very very very very soon plssss

Previously i have same problem juz like urs... but mine is GTX 460 SE which newly bought... i done underclock n almost everything...
Last step update mother bios... still same. Lastly found out tat da sound which intergrated wit motherboard, as u update BIOS it doesnt update the sound driver. U need to find sound driver itself n update it... This solve my issue...

oh i c....yeah i read your post earlier about updating sound driver...i went to sound driver at control panel, and then click update driver. however it showed that i have the latest driver, although i never update sound driver before.

btw, ive still not tried to update bios yet. do u think it can solve my problem by updating it?

my integrated sound driver is realtek high definition sound driver (bla3). what's yours?
is there any way to manually update sound driver? can u give me links where to download it?

u need to go google ur motherboard driver website... from there, u can choose under utilities where sound driver can be downloaded...

my sound card is realtek which integrated with asus mb.
but i get the realtek driver from realtek website, not ASUS.
i think this should be the way getting the latest driver, rite?

u can try... if cant.. try at Asus website...

mine is leadtek 560ti oc 900mhz.after bf3 launching..got always hang n crash.so i do some reading oversea forums.i got a bit solution.
1.upgrade to win7 64bits.ram 12gb n downclock cpu 3.60mhz to 3.45mhz(I5 750).
2.D/load msi burner to downclock 900mhz to 800mhz.
and then i can go high setting except AA medium. got avg 60 fps.gpu temp avg 70 cels. playing game 3-4 hours without crash.

any of you have artifacts problem at Operation Firestorm map? I encountered it today, but not sure whether game, hardware or driver problem..

i would recommend you to get 6950. its abit more expensive though depending on the brand

1. update nvidia driver frm 285.38 --> 285.62 ---> 285.79 - fail
2. update soundcard driver - fail
3. underclock my gtx560 ti from 880 --> 820, 800 -- fail
4. delete the 'tm' in registry and game folder - fail
5. using msi afterburner set the fan speed 100% - fail
6. set the video setting from high (default) --> medium --> low - fail
7. disable antivirus - fail
8. sleep n dream about the awesomeness of kharg island map and immediately wake up and play mp -- fail

its always the same thing for me, play around 5 - 15 minutes and my pc freezes with looping sound --> press reset. (cannot alt-ctrl-del)

anything else for suggestion? or any opinion of what might be wrong

first time i flashed my GPU bios.. played smooth for few days.. but today the crash come again.. is like the audio problem.. it freeze with the game sound.. only "press reset button" will help reboot the whole machine.

so any1 with GTX 560Ti SLI? hows the performance on 1080p?

yeah it is sumthing to do with onboard soundcard (realtek)...
bought usb sound card and no more crash....setel buang

after update my game quite lagging than before, loading time also increase

ermm..loading time not related to gpu performance..I already feel so.new patch to do that.correct me if im wrong.

i feel that too...now my bf3 cant work with my AVG firewall turn on...previously ok...

i feel my graphic performance is much worse after the update..

Mine stutters... cannot fly jet or heli anymore or will crash when it stutters. I wonder if GTX 550 TI has problems like the 560? Planning to get it soon...

yeah.. bought an usb sound card.. it solved everything..
now playing on auto setting (high).. enjoy a lot with the gameplay..

Still having green flash or flicker on BF3 after the update. But not that serious or affect the gameplay. Just 1-2 times in several hours of gaming
