Anybody applying for this post, or anybody currently holding this post? I applied for it already through SPA website. I am an aviation geek, and a pilot is too far for me to reach right now. So this post is the nearest I can get to work in the field of my dreams

I got a friend working as Engr in Air Traffic Control..
at early stage, he was sent for training oversea for 6mths in Europe.
now he's stationed at Sabah..

in this field, you must be willing to travel a lot. if you're home sick type of person, dont go for this job. where got airport near to your place/hometown?

i'm not sure what type of post you applied. be prepared since the interview quite tough for technical level..

I am applying for the officer post, A41 grade. There will be exam, test, an interview and about one year plus of training at the academy. Currently studying like hell, reading everything I can find about ATC and the SPA exams.

Hi bro,

I've been working as a contractor for them before, yeah, their job is pretty stressful man. You got to work in a shift also. Yes, there will be courses you must attend after getting the job, and must pass the exam. The pay is quite good also man. btw, your english must be very good, and you must do multiple things in a single time, and not to mention you must have great hearing also, as some of the pilot not speaking clearly because of their native tounge perhaps..haha. Most of all, you must be steady, and not easily stumble..haha. tongue.gif ...Btw, if you do anything wrong, even a miss flight (If I m not mistaken, forgot the term already), you will be investigated, and maybe suspended man..Its national security..About the smoking thing, If at night, and at the tower, can la, but if at the air traffic center, cannot man. You want to smoke, smoke outside..haha.. tongue.gif

I know about the pressure and the risks. But I figured since I have a passion for aviation, things will work out ok. Calculated stress level, so to speak. I suppose that's better than working in a field with absolutely no stress at all, but you're working just for the sake of working, without any passion at all?

Passion is one thing, stress is another. Stress levels can never be calculated when you are really working. Anyways, good luck.

Haha, nice nice. You know, you could actually call up the nearest ATC and tell them you'd like to come over to look at their operations. Tell them your interest in the field etc, and they'll give you the green light to go up for sure. icon_rolleyes.gif

this topic caught me out of interest...Just wanna ask, what are the minimum qualifications required to be considered for this position?

And how do one apply for this kind of job in Malaysia?

I have always found it interesting since I watch Aircrash investigation series quite frequently...

Applying for Air traffic controlled? As long as you hold degree that is recognized by jpa you can apply for it. I'm a degree holder in air traffic management,
It's kindergarten!

Cutejams, the lowest qualification is spm with credit in few subject like bm and maths

Vines, and you are Malaysia airline flight crew? I was in FMB til last friday!

Received the same email as well. Really surprised me because when I applied, it was around 1 year ago. Are you going to the exam? I think if you passed the exam then only will be called for interview.

It will be like your typical SPA exam to enter govt service. But with some aviation questions. Read a bit on aircrafts and also the airlines industry in Malaysia. Maths questions are more towards testing ur IQ.

They need the most number of personnel in Klang Valley (KLIA, KLIA2, new Air Traffic Management centre in Sepang) but you can also be posted to Kuching and KK, both with control centres. But for the first posting I think it will be in Klang Valley.. They want to give you the exposure first.

Just sharing my experience during my interview. My SPA panel was Dato' Mohd Zain Mohd Dom. Unlike other SPA panels, he surely knows his aviation stuffs. The DCA panel only asked one question. The rest came from Dato'. The questions are:
Describe what do you know about this job.
How do you handle the pressure if an aircraft declares mayday and needs ur help in landing?
If u give a wrong instruction and the plane is about to hit terrain, what is the pilot's responsibility?
Your instructions contradict with the instructions from the plane's onboard safety systems. Which one should the pilot follow?
You say you really love aviation. What if after 19 years you lose your interest and becomes bored with the job. What should u do?

No age limit, but training can be really taxing so you might wanna take that into consideration. Starting pay is the same as other govt posts, but ATCOs enjoy some allowances not available to other govt services.
