maybe your cat doesn't know how to use the post ?
I had to "teach" my cats .. when they jump on the sofa and try to scratch say "no" then move the cat to the post and hold his paws and show him he is supposed to scratch there.
My bf read that his you have to show your cat how to use it (sendiri scratch the post with your own nails in front of the cat) .. i don't know if it works (he tried it) but my cats use the post most of the time now
*
I have seen them use it once, but after that back to the cardboard rolleyes.gif

Yes, totally agree with you Verulin.
Cats are very fascinated with cardboard boxes.
As soon as my cats see a box in the house they will either jump into it or scratch it.
So another solution is cut up the box and let the cat use it as a scratch post but then it will be messy la  sweat.gif
*
I found that with storebought cardboard scratcher like this one
user posted image
it will be very messy because the cats will pull and tear off bits of cardboard everywhere. need to sweep up almost everyday doh.gif

but for DIY one, not so much. I think because they don't like the taste of the glue I used for sticking. so they will only scratch but don't bite

not as pretty as petshop one but save rm20 XD

and I recently got this food maze. Nemo loves it. Tiger is blind so he doesn't understand XD

I adopted a cat 4 years ago. she used to be real skinny but after I took care of her she blooms... she doesn't look obese now (maybe slightly fat) but she has these horrible fat hanging from her tummy too!

I'm not sure if she had babies before and that's why her tummy is sagging, but i heard... that if the cat is neutered/spayed it would have some tummy as well O_O
*
one of my cats has it too. i read somewhere that it's more like extra skin and not fat, so they can jump/run better(hind legs can stretch more)
but there are a lot of diff opinions. try Google 'cat belly flap'

hello...my cat just lsing its weight, and some people said to give them meat...any idea?
*
better check with a vet. Lack of appetite + losing weight could be signs of sickness.
if not, it could be fussy. Try using some different brand, or mix with strong-smelling canned cat food or some meat. or even fish/olive oil. some pet shops even carry the type specially for cats.
canned tuna/sardine (for humans) can be used but not everyday because cats can get sick if they eat too much

Help!!!
My cat just diagnose got urinary tract problem...
he unable to pass urine.
Just now bring to vet, they help him to realize some of the urine.

Dr said primary cause is the cat ate supermarket cat food.
I used to feed him Smart heart...sad.gif

Dr also give him an injection, forget ask what is it. then bring home medicine and new type pet food Prescription Diet® c/d® Multicare Feline Bladder Health with Chicken.

Dr warn that if he got vomit, no energy or lethargy, no eat or continue no pass urine...need send to emergency.

back to home around 6pm, feed him medicine...then he vomited out with some mushy food....then i was thinking, may b vomit out he will feel more comfortable...

then i continue monitor him, still going to the cat sand on n off, he still unable to piss (if got just 1 to 2 drips). I put some new cat food on his plate but he dunwan to eat it...sad.gif

Now he vomited 2nd time, still got some mushy food came out....

Im so worried...

Question:
Should call the vet?
Or Vomitted out undigested food is good and continue monitor?

He is just 1 yr old and too young to leave us....T___T

Any cat expert here? Please gimme some advice....

continuous vomiting is always a bad sign. take to the vet

The thing with dry food is that it's too dry and cats don't always drink enough water because they're descended from desert animals.

cheapo supermarket foods are usually the cause because the ingredients are crap. Males usually exhibit UTI because they have narrower urinary tracts than females, which means the urine crystals will find it easier to block the tract.

strangely even good quality grain free DRY food can cause UTI in some male cats. The theory is that they get too much nutrients but not enough water. I was unlucky cz both my male cAts developed UTI After eating Now! brand dry grain free.

try slowly changing your cat's food to the new one. Everyday gradually mix more new n less old food. sudden change can cause diarrhea.
you cam also get the canned version of c/d to mix in (to make it smell nicer and also to provide more water.
if you make the cat biscuits wet don't leave it out for too long cz it can turn bad.

good luck

Hi Emily,

Sorry to hear about your cat.
Perhaps you would want to try a home remedy.
Get a bottle of Brags Apple Vinegar Cider from any pharmacy.
Then put two to three drops in your cats drinking water daily.
The avc will help to disolve the crystals in his urinary tract.
Hope your baby gets well soon.

I think combining the UTI food with AVC might be a bit overkill. hmm.gif

Really?  sweat.gif
*
yeah...since the UTI food like Royal Canin s/o and Hill's c/d already acidify the urine, adding ACV might be too much. sweat.gif
If the cat isn't on that food then can use ACV as prevention or alternative treatment la

I intend to supplement my cats with ACV once they recover from their UTI. Now still on the c/d dry+canned food

My cat starts to become inactive, having loose stool and vomits clear frothy fluid 2days after his 1st vaccination, is tht normal? Anyway, im  bringing him back to the vet tomorrow for checkup, so sad to see him like this..  sad.gif
*
definitely not normal. The most he should get is a mild fever.

Added on November 28, 2012, 2:45 amI have been battling UTI in both my male cats for a few months now. They have been on Royal Canin s/o then Science diet c/d but urine pH is still quite high at 7.5.
I know I mentioned before that supplementing with Apple cider vinegar together with UTI food is probably overkill, but at this stage c/d just doesn't seem to be doing much good so I will be adding the vinegar to their food from now on. Hopefully the pH will drop to around 6.

besides royal canin, hills plan n pro plan, is there any other brand that sells UTH,c/d/ kind of food ?

*
no other brands I'm aware of
actually the vet told me Hill's s/d or something works better in reducing the pH than c/d. but no stock for some time edi doh.gif
(i mean dry no stock, only got wet ones)
so the next best thing is to turn to home remedies.
at least my cats are peeing normal and everything

really ar? =0 I NEVER KNEW!! But bw is not those super premium one like royal canin or something right? i saw food with RM200++ that I can never ever afford. Sometimes I wonder if i'm giving my cat junkfood (blackwood) that is a little higher standard that normal junk food (friskies)
*
IMO, Bw is quite all right if you're on a budget. It's not that bad la. I used to give them that, then I tried grain free for a while but that caused UTI in my male cats, now I have them on Hill's c/d which is gila expensive. After all this I want to get them back on Bw.
friskies, whiskas (basically any supermarket brands)- those are bad, I mean the dry food. wet food is ok ok.

You guys, I saw a kitten that's really in a bad shape nearby taman melati... Is there a shelter that I can bring the kitten to so it could be taken care of? I don't have the funds to take it to a vet but I feel very bad for the kitten and my conscience is not clear if I just ignore the cat... Help anyone? sad.gif
*
Not a good idea to take to a shelter since they're already underfunded and overpopulated.
You can take the kitten in, and if you cannot afford the bill, try requesting for sponsor from http://myanimalcare.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/ktaj0311?fref=ts
or just post on the KTAJ page asking if anyone in the area can help

i just spay my male cat. this is the second day. it look like only only his left scrotum are shaven. look like the vet took out only one testical. is it possible? but i read the testical will appear swollen in the first few days.
also from youtube, i see the vet will make incision on both side. but my cat only has one. any of u have similar case before?
*
I think what Octoberfly meant is something like vasectomy (used for human guys, it involves cutting the tubes from the balls so the sperm cannot go out). But usually neutering male cats involves taking out everything (cos hey the cat's already knocked out, might as well go all the way and remove all the stuff since they don't care anyway.)
From neutering surgeries that I have seen, only 1 small incision is made between the 2 scrotum and the balls are pulled out thorugh that hole. you'll see an empty sac left behind which may or may not disappear. My 2.5 year old male cat still has the empty sac left behind; it wasn't absorbed. he was neutered in early 2011.

Hye..new member here....adopt my cat 5 months ago and is having a difficulty to eat. Sometimes have to suap him the kibble with hand. Just change his food from Iams to Eagle Pack yesterday. Got any other brand that you guys wanna recommend?

I also don't know what breed it is...His name is kikidee~ smile.gif
*
difficulty to eat meaning he doesn't like the food or he cannot eat? has he always been like this or just suddenly happen?
try Blackwood. from what i hear picky cats like it so it's worth a try.

Hi Everyone.

I'm Facing a Problem sad.gif
Thats a Kitten Which I Used To Feed And Its Grow Up , Mid Of This Year He Run Away With Other Cats.
Today, He come back, but his face got hurt, and full of Pus And Blood, and also Got alot worm on his face.
and thats very very bad smell.
i feel heartache  cry.gif when i saw, i just only can feed him and nothing much i can help.

i cant touch him , but i hope to send him to the animal hospital.
what i can do? unsure.gif
*
get him to a vet ASAP. this is not something that you can treat by yourself at home.
sounds like he got in a fight and the wounds got infected. pus and blood attracts flies that lay eggs that hatch into maggots. then the maggots eat the flesh. he could turn blind or deaf.

ah yeah vasectomy. My bibble had the same thing. I could felt his balls back then after neutering but after a month or so it slowly disappear. The sac is... still there tough but seemed to have shrinked.
I'm not sure but he still have the hobby of riding the females ._.
*
the balls should already be out. Basically the neutering procedure is: cut the skin between the scrotum, squeeze out 1 ball, cut the sac surrounding it, squeeze out the testicle, tie and cut the tube, push the empty sac back in, repeat for 2nd ball.
so you were probably feeling the sacs inside then those were absorbed, leaving the skin in that shape.

Added on January 1, 2013, 3:09 pmjust a reminder:
cats can sometimes hide in the car engine either due to the cold weather or because they're scared by the new year's fireworks.

Luckily this kitten mewed very loudly when my sister started her car so he didn't end up getting burned or worse.

QUOTE(Mizu @ Feb 23 2013, 11:57 AM)
my solution is to just line the tray with paper first, then put sand on it (about 2 scoops). then at the end of the day just gather the paper and throw it all out ( because three cats really do a lot of "business", so no spare sand is leftover from the clumps anyway lol)

how do you manage your kittens' litter?
*
I get a big storage bin from the supermarket at rm15-20, discard the lid, then cut off a section of one side so the cats can get in. I also place a thick floor mat(the type used in cars that can trap dirt and dust) at the 'entrance' to catch any litter that sticks to their paws.
i also use the clumping type litter and empty 1/2 or the whole bag in, and scoop out pee and poo few times a day. when i wash the box (1-2 times a month) i pour out the extra and either throw it away or mix in with new litter depending on how dirty it is.

The only problem is that sometimes my cats get too excited about toilet time and jump out of the box instead of using the door. then litter literally flies everywhere doh.gif
i would like to get a covered box but i think one of my fatty cats is too big to fit in =.=

Tip: as you pour out litter from the bag there will be a lot of dust. so i use a vacuum to suck it up as someone helps me to pour out the sand slowly

Hi, I'm from Kajang area. Yesterday my wife found an abandoned kitten near her workplace and just couldn't ignore it. So finally she sent it for care at a pet shop near her workplace and we both decided to adopt it. Today we have brought it home to my home. We were told by the pet shop owner that the kitten is only 6 days old and will need lots of care and will need to be fed every 3-4 hours. It will be fine today and tomorrow but I'm a bit worried starting Monday as we are both working. There will be no one to take care and feed it. So here I want to ask if there is any place I can leave it at for boarding during day time until after work time.. At least until it is able to feed it self independently.

wow, you have some really great tips there! i'm really impressed. the mat thing is something i need to try, my cats like to come into the house a lot but they have ... dirty paws (to put it simply) do you have some pictures of your setup? i'd really like to replicate it if i can, it seems pretty easy to maintain!

I'm too chicken to put in the whole bag at once. My cats like to find ways to throw the sand everywhere so much of it is wasted. those things don't come cheap  cry.gif

woops forgot to rotate the pic. I'm on my phone now

and i got the vacuum idea from some other forum. forgot which one exactly. the rest i thought of while wandering around tesco and ace hardware tongue.gif
btw the cheaper the box the better since the plastic will be softer n easier to cut
