I'm sorry but I didn't catch the name of the disease. Was kinda stunned at having to make a decision so suddenly.

Don't tell me the decision is to put him to sleep?

Yes. Doctor said to choose there and then, whether to take him home and spend the last few days with him and he'll pass away eventually or to put him down there. I've already thought this might happen when he had so many seizures yesterday. Already thought of the worst case scenario, if the doctor asked to choose, I'd choose to put him down, so that he won't suffer any more. The whole day I've seen him getting seizures yesterday, i thought it'd be best. Doctor gave me some time with him but he just wouldn't wake up. Sat with him for an hour then told the doctor I was ready.

Did the vet told you what happened to him?

The vet I went to yesterday at old klang road was useless. He said my dog was poisoned and gave him anti toxins, which I think made him worse. The doctor I went to to day at upm pet hospital took a blood test, after few hours she said had bad news for us. That was when I didn't listen to her properly, she said something bout tested positive for some disease, didn't catch the name..

A piece of advice, if your dog gets a seizure, if the vet just gives some nerve drugs, insist on getting a blood test as well, don't take the "test" they give seriously, coz the pet hospital said that test is not accurate.

how cookie contracted disease from another dog ?

RIP to cookie. I'm sure he's very happy at rainbow bridge with other animals now. Free from pain and health restored smile.gif

I just got my other beagle after losing my old one. My old one died becoz of some disease on the liver and digestion tract becoz of virus like too.

This is really sad news but the continuous seizure wasn't a good sign already =(. I hope the doctor didn't mention anything like canine distemper or parvovirus. But since your dog caught the virus from another dog in the area, I would suggest you bring your beagle for a check up for prevention.

Doctor said the virus is airborne, can spread through the air. My mum ask is it possible he got it while walking him around in the taman, the doctor said highly likely due to that. My beagle is fine though, never seen her had a seizure before, but will ask my brother to bring her for a checkup ASAP.

Thanks smile.gif

Yes I already expected the worst last night, even though I was prepared, when I heard those words I just couldn't take it.. Nope, didn't sound like that, I'm really sorry guys I can't remember the name of the disease, all I remember is the doctor saying this virus attacks the brain cells, which causes the seizures.

I will ask my brother to bring the beagle for a checkup soon, but so far she looks fine, never had any signs of seizure

Np. Feeling your loss too and your beagle gonna be fine smile.gif

Walking the dog is good but since the virus is airborne is kinda scary becoz you dont know when the dog is contracted. It's so easy through air. My beagle last time sniffed or eaten poo from outside when we walked her at a field then her digestion tract boomed just like that sad.gif I'm not bringing my new dog outside becoz of this incident.

Sorry about your loss, RIP Cookie. What you described sounds like distemper:
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_canine_distemper.html

Take your beagle for a checkup just in case, but chances are she's fine if she's had the full set of vaccs. Distemper virus doesn't survive too well outside of the host body but still best to disinfect your house (with diluted bleach).

DAMN IT~!

Cookie followed you 3 years or perhaps more than a year if you adopted~! How can you just leave it to the vet and let cookie go itself?

NEXT TIME, WHEN U WANT TO ADPOT A PET, PLEASE MAKE SURE U MAKE THE PROMISE THAT YOU WILL BE WITH YOUR PET AND WONT ABANDON YOUR PET.

I DO UNDERSTAND YOUR FEELINGS, BUT HAVE YOU THINK OF COOKIE? DAMN YOU~! YOU SHOULD NOT THINK OF TAKING COOKIE BACK, HE GO, AND U NEED TO THINK OF WAYS TO SORT WITH THE BODY.

I DO STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT COOKIE WANTS TO GO BY YOUR SIDE.

I HAVE 2 DOGS BEFORE. ONE I REGRET AS I WAS NOT WITH HER..15 YEARS PASS, I STILL REGRET WITH IT..THE OTHER WAITED ME TILL IT LEAVE..AND I BURRIED HER IN MY HOUSE GARDEN..

DONT KEEP ANY DOGS. THEY GOT FEEL TOO

I wouldn't criticise how the TS treat his/her dog's since he/she made the choice...

Personally, in such scenario, i won't decide to put it down. Second opinion is not enough, what if another wrong diagnosis? i will consult more before coming to that last resort, when you put down, you gave up the chance, you failed to fight until the last minute....

if miracle didn't happen, at least i accompany it till its final breath..

anyway, RIP cookie

Lin Tao,

I'm so sorry you had to go through that but Cookie is in a better place now, where he will have no seizures and have plenty of bones to dig, plenty of space to run, lots of toys to play, many other dogs to play with, a nice soft bed at night...

I do not know if I, myself would be able to make such a difficult decision but you had Cookie's well-being in mind. It would be more painful for him to just pass on, on his own. It would have been selfish to have kept him going, suffering under the heavy medication when the disease has already left its mark.

First is, our house garden is new, the ground isn't meant to be dug, and my mum drove me all the way to old klang road (which was a one hour drive due to the jam) at night, spent few hundreds there for nothing, then when brought to the upm hospital, spent another few hundreds there as well. I don't want to trouble my mum with having to dig up her garden to bury cookie.

I was with him the entire time till he passed, then the doctor told me they'll take care of his body.

Thanks for all the kind words people, it means a lot to me smile.gif

You trusted the upm docfor? Why don't get third opinion again and with solid evidence?

What did the upm docfor have done to diagnose and concluded such?

Dont tell me he concluded is distemper viruses.

If he would die off, he would have in early days and not to drag until so many days.
