I just collected mine today... put on about 120km to the mileage... the first problem I had with this car is I was sneaking out to eat supper while my wife fell asleep... and my wife just called me 5 minutes ago... cause she said she just heard my bus... OMG...

But seems like u already made up your mind why consider? The suspension is slightly stiff bit at high speed its just perfect... Power is unbeatable at 3rd and 4th gear but the starting gear... 1 n 2 I thing its because of the diesel engine its slightly slow...

Frankly speaking... if you don't traveling more then 2k-4k mileage a month... diesel is not efficient for you... because of the high service and road tax charge...

Finally choose the car you want... when you are happy driving it... when the car keep on making u feel like driving it... its always worth it...

road tax should be the same as any other 2.0 car and servicing also i don't see why it should be any more expensive than a regular engine

The 2003 Toyota Vios 1.5L (1st generation), can give you about 15km/L for 100% highway driving at about 120kmph. But i would expect it to consume more on highways since the RPM at 120kmph is 3,000. 100% city driving can give you 13km/L.

a petrol engine will never match the fuel economy of a diesel, no matter what

focus got high torque but heavier mah .. at the end of day you got 320NM at low rpm but when you go point A to point B like 0-100 do you get 7-8seconds acceleration like those 3L petrol cars with 300NM?? or still back to around 10seconds? like a normal 2L petrol car?

doesn't matter both doesn't have space to do it in the city, otherwise buy a race car and take it to the track

low down torque is excellent for city driving and high speed overtaking, not getting from 0-100

Aiya now u say ure heavy footer.  notworthy.gif

Anyway heavy footer on highway drives doesnt really affect much as compared to being a heavy footer in town driving.

the focus has been proved to be able to reach over 1200kms on a single tank, even if that was a controlled situation to maximize FC, if a petrol engine were to follow behind it will NEVER reach that mileage no matter what

ah that's why you need a CVT lor.. cos gearbox is torque converter and engine is power plant..
with CVT, it dun matter if you got 300NM or 200NM, as long as your power cukup, you can drive low speeds just as well as higher torque discrete gearbox vehicles (meaning a number of fixed ratio gearbox like normal AT or Manual) ..

u assume ppl never drive turbo diesel meh?
like wise I could say you should drive well balanced 50:50,  RWD cars if you really like driving..  brows.gif

It's nothing to do with gearbox, it's the engine charateristic, diesel produce max torque at low RPMS, petrol engines produce max torque at HIGH rpms.

To make use of max torque at low speed, the CVT will keep the petrol engine at 3-4k rpms.

Diesel doesn't need that at 2000rpms already 300nm are available.

oh please la.. when you compare engine alone no use la.. you still need to know the final drive and gearbox ratios.. 2000rpms 300Nm doesn't mean much as that is the engine output shaft specs before the gearbox not what's seeing the road, which is the drive shaft axle.
please study degree in engineering preferably in 1st world country .. thanks. then we can discuss more.. hard to explain such technical things to non engineering ppl..

is that why cvt are used less and less and more dual clutch is being used instead?

is the glow plug suppose to appear every time or only when cold start ?
*
as far as i know with the new commonrail diesel system, because the pressure is so high and control is so accurate, the glowplugs aren't needed anymore unless the temp drops below -5 degrees.

Thought of getting a Pre owned Tdci 2.0 since Euro 5 is widely available in KL. I would like some comments on the following...
1. Is the turbo diesel engine reliable?
2. Is the powershift dual clutch a dry or wet clutch? Does it give the same problems as in the Fiesta?
3. Is the cabin well insulated from road noise and from the diesel engine noise?
4. Any common  problem areas  I need to be aware when choosing a Pre owned unit?
5. Since Euro 5 is available,  does the engine need to be re-tuned to enjoy the full benefits of euro 5 diesel?

Thanks

If these were fitted with diesel particulate filter, you're best avoiding them, with old euro 2 diesel , it may be end of life already due to the soot load inside the filter , dpf are very expensive to replace. If no dpf no worries.

Take the trouble to go deep and look at te turbo, any signs of water or oil leaks , walk away , leaking seals always means a turbo rebuild
