What do you think about this design? It is targeted for a floral company, or gift company and it is supposed to exhibit e-commerce styled behavior. It is only in its draft stages, so waht do you think?

blue and grey is not really suitable for a floral or gift company, something like pink, light green, or softer color will be more suitable,

the design is ok clean and simple, but u need to have the product category to be visible to the visitor right on the main page
it's oso redundant to have the same links on top and on the left side menu, i would suggest to change the left menu to products category

design : nice
just what's with the flower.. you're a cooperate site.. put some buisnessman...or anything that's buisness related..

"welcome to company name" - dark grey maybe , instead of black..
also need a logo..

opps.. my mistake..if for floral selling purpose.. try pink/orange..they look better.
and why there's 2 navigation menu ?? if you're to make 2 nav. menu , then one of them should be situated below the content..

The concept design looks a bit too high tech for me. It doesn't give me the feeling of flowers and gifts..or the type of feminine-ish feel to it.

I would also keep things more organized by placing Newest Products beneath Featured Products instead of putting things here and there.

Here are some better organized navigations for you. smile.gif

http://www.prettypetals.com.my/

http://www.noel.com.my/

Both are clean and simple but still makes you feel like you're at a flower & gifts website. smile.gif You could also borrow the idea of colors from there.

Cheers.

1. Redundant main navigation. I don't think it necessary except it would be wise to make sure that it is noticable for first time viewer/visitor.

2. I can't seem to understand why the flower picture (pink flower) need to be blocked by a frame of some sort.

3. Why is the search frame so big?

I wasn't posting the examples based on it's organization or typeface, it was a guide of look and feel overall for soggie. If you compared the design of the two with her current design, it's obvious something is lacking because I don't feel what they other 2 has given me. Anyway, maybe you drop an email to Noel and let them know. smile.gif

Cheers.

The design looks too "inexperienced". Try different colour schemes, warm colour or romantic colour will be more suitable. The design is way too incomplete, even if it's a draft design, still you have to try making it look like you took a screenshot from somewhere. Fill in the company name and logo as well as all the products, not just "your company name" and some empty boxes around. Then you will have a better idea yourself how it will look in the end too. Oh, and work on the navigation system too! Cheers!

The colours suggested by valho is fitting too, pink, light green, the soft "pastelly", like your blog, soggie. smile.gif

Guys, I skimped through all your comments, and as expected, you guys give extremely useful comments. Thanks for spending the time to explain the fallacies of my design. Tomorrow I'll read thru it again in more detail... thanks again!

Yes I agree that the color scheme needs better work. Originally I used blue shades because the requirements for this web design states that no red, no pink, and only blue, white, gray and silver. Now taht this template has been on hold for approval, maybe I'll mod the color scheme and release it as a free tempalte with much more girly and sweeter colors.

Haha now brain not working... partay too much. Will continue tomorrow. Thanks guys (and girls)!

i think u lack of creativity here wiff "ur" templet a.k.a "draft stage"

in order to improvice imho, make it ( imean make ur own PSD FILES and, not by using "free templet and then paste unkewl flower picture) flex.gif colorful la ...dis is too dull and boring and not "flowerish"

the templet ur using to me is more suitable for buying ak-47 or pentium 4 EE dual core thumbup.gif

my humble advise, pls make if more "alive like a fresh flower that blooms right after the blardy morning glory bla bla bla rather then being "autumn" (betui ke aku eja?) boring, plain, dull, sengal bla blabla

another thing, pls la dun use templet...so unoriginal!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you meant by "pls la dun use templet"... can you elaborate more on that?

EDIT:

I think you misunderstood that I'm ripping off another person's template and just putting in some flowers and that's it? Well to clarify, every single pixel on that image I posted up here, is 100% conceived from my own photoshop, on my own computer. The flowers come from google images, which I believe are copyrighted, in which I will have to discard sooner or later in favor for original flower images, but the other things you see such as the layout, the ribbon, the wording and every single thing is my own work, not a work of others where i copied. I have the PSD file if you want to look at it.

On second thought, I think that's a compliment from you. To be able to fool people into thinking "this looks like a pro template... can't possibly come from a malaysian. he must've ripped it off somewhere", I think that pretty much gives me an extra boost of confidence laugh.gif notworthy.gif

Thanks!

is this a static or dynamic site?
imho, try to avoid the too corperate look. maybe try something wild and fun, some thing more "flowery". i too am stuck with the corperate style which restricts my imagination a lot. dont be afraid to use images here and there as long as its fast loading.

well i m still learning smile.gif all the best!

ps: don be afraid to sketch it out on paper first! sketches are important, tats wat i learn from art skool biggrin.gif

Yeah i always start with sketches... but what i noe is my sketches always differ from my final product by a huge degree... tongue.gif

I'm more of being a photoshop freestyle person. What I do is, launch a 800x600 or bigger canvas, then draw a draft from there. That way I get my stuff quicker.

Keep it in checked guys, wont want to turn this into another flame war.

I voted for average. I think there's more space to be creative around here. This does look like a 'boxy template' design. It would be interesting to see how you going to lay it out, cuz a lot of the elements in that design can be easily done with CSS, thus reducing server hits for image loading.

JunkieG is right and wrong about two thing. Wrong about your dummy text. You use (i assume) 'lorem ipsum', that's the standard dummy text for most web designers. As for the 'weaponized' words, well many times i use foul words, so that doesnt indicate the whole thing is a rip off. Another thing he is wrong, well your blog is a custom wordpress template.

He is right about the overall feel of the design, which i agreed on certain parts of it.

Try to visit more sites, (those that danny suggested earlier are helpful). Hopefully that might give you some inspiration and ideas.

You have a good one. smile.gif

Allow me one final civilized reply before we close this case. Firstly, yes, I know what Photoshop is, and I know what Ctrl+U, gradients, levels, layer effects, and so on means, so thanks for the reminders, but they were unnecessary.

Secondly, the lorem ipsum is a standard dummy text, which in case you don't know, appears in most draft-stages designs. Its not called standard for no reasons - it has been widely used all around the world, and I'm just surprised that you don't know that yet. Go wiki for it, or better still, here's a link for your further inquiry:

http://www.lipsum.com/

As for the "weaponized" words, what's wrong with that? I can replace them with doreamons and pokemons and still I ask, what's the big problem here? If writing these proofs that my template is a rip off, then I question your deduction and inferencing skills.

Thirdly, I am offended not because you gave your criticism regarding my skills, design and everything. I am offended because you assumed and accused that my template is not of an original work, yet you do not have enough evidence to clearly proof it. Go do this - go into the internet, and show me where I ripped the template from. I double dare you, to use your own words back against you. However, I believe that with your mentality that malaysians can only be lazy and only knows how to rip off people's work, it might be futile to argue with you the originality of my work.

Finally, if after my vindication you would still hold onto the fallacious belief that I ripped somebody's template off, then do humanity a favor and give proof that I did it. You can't just go around accusing people without proof, but if that is how your mentality works, then I have nothing more to say, but to bid you good luck in life.

To reiterate I welcome criticism, but if you want to challenge me on the originality of my work, I'm fully prepared to defend my own grounds. However, please do this in PM. Please do keep this thread civilized, and focused on criticism regarding the design, usability, layout, and others.

i voted average because...

firstly, the colors just average... i would be looking forward to more pinkish, peach or purple , yellow kind of colors formations...

probably these colors associated well with flowers and gifts. It gave a sweet and nice feeling, to the givers and receivers..

and i can suggest u to add more flowers pictures into one side of the background.... fluff it up! be more daring with graphics or pictures... when someone wanted to order something, they wanted to be greeted with lots of those things, in this case, lots of flowers...colorful and nice but not too much until unbalanced the whole page... hope u get the picture i am trying to paint here.. smile.gif
