same thing happened to me..
but now ok le..
so the solution will be....
1. download the latest ipod updater
2. run it and chose restore...(clear everything on ur HDD)
3. then insert ur library back
this was wad i did and it neva hang for a long time le
one more thing, if u wanna stop listen to a song, jus pause it and the switch the hold button on and keeep ur ipod... try not to hold the play/pause button to switch it off.. it will not hang at all when u restart it!

for video playback... the creative zen vision is the best around... better than ipod and oso the sony psp... so for those "movie" enthusiast... u can go get tht... but i think the sound quality is not as impressive as the ipod...
