Sorry, you are right. I think they call it PB-1 or PB or Polybutene whichever you like hehehe... Buteline is just the company name... but funny thing is the web say Buteline pipe.... I think they call their product "Buteline anything"... unless you go indepth on the description, then only will see the "abbreviation... hehehe

Use SS piping, footprint will be smaller because SS are tougher and stronger for the same diameter and thickness.

Most people will use poly pipe for their house, cheap, reliable and won't react with water.
Does SS really good? It is good if you everyday use and make all the water flows on all the piping. Water if flowing won't create much problem on rusting. But stagnant water will kill the SS coating. Remember, our raw water are chlorine treated, so it is slightly acidic. And SS only good against water(H2O) and not other chemicals.

psf get the quote from hardware shop, they will know. If you ask plumber it will be more expensive, is material + labor + fitting + expenses.

Fitting is not cheap.

As said, it is depending on applications.
The quality of the SS also important. What if the contractor using low grade type but charge expensive?
Can you assure that everyone can differentiate the quality of the SS by its look?
That's why some plumber or renovator that are honest will ask us to use poly(or AC pipe for main supply) pipe.
You are not wrong, but then just too much of conman in the market, especially on renovation field.

Hi, anyone had installed stainless steel pipe? I was quoted RM12k for entire house. When the plumber start the work and found out that the stainless steel pipe he installed with used of compression type copper fiting. He claimed that he unable to get the stainless steel fittings. . Wonder any problem with installed stainless pipe and the fitting are copper. Base of my understanding in the industries standard there are stainless steel fitting but very expensive. Anyone can advise on this matter?

I won't install SS pipe, as it can degrade over time. SS pipe are only good against water, not against chlorine.

Can someone tell me the estimation cost to do a by pass from the water meter to the house of about 30m in length?
With regards to underground leak, will there always an evidence of leakage above ground ie water puddle etc? My water bill went sky rocket to rm600 plus. Did some simple test to identify which line may be affected. Got to know that it was between the main stopcock to the meter. I was expecting leak, but didn't observed any trace of leakage. Do appreciate your kind comments.
Cheers!

Copper or buteline depends on your preference, budget and skill of plumber. It is important to remember when joining copper pipes never to over tighten the fasteners. Costing? Each 5m long copper pipe is around RM80 to RM90. Elbows and splitters are definitely a lot more expensive and usually upwards of RM7 each. A buteline pipe of the same length and diameter will cost between RM20 and RM30 for a hot water rated one, make sure your contractor does not play you out by giving you pipes that are not rated for hot water to be used for hot water. Elbows and joints are nowhere near as expensive and if it is kept within a plastered wall it is stronger than those used for copper as you cannot guarantee the metallurgy within those fittings.

Buteline lines should be buried within the plastering as any type of stretching will wear out the joints. Copper pipes can be exposed without any issue.

Cost? My most recent update, I did it for my 440 sq ft studio bathroom with outlets at the shower and sink. I also had a supply pipe from the tank to the kitchen sink. Copper pipes within the bathroom cost RM800, each outlet cost RM250 not inclusive of the hacking and tiling work. The line to the kitchen cost me RM600 and the outlet cost me RM250 as well.

If I had opted for buteline the cost would have been RM300 for the mainlines and RM50 per outlet for the bathroom and the line to the kitchen would not have cost more than RM100.

Here is a tip, unless the bathrooms are either back to back with each other or the distances are very close to each other, you are better off having separate storage heater tanks for each bathroom and the kitchen. You get to reduce the overall cost, use smaller and more efficient heaters, you also save on water and it is far less of a headache if something does go wrong.

I did not do a 2 tank set up as my kitchen is small and I do not have much in the way of space to store that tank.

My contractor’s plumber told me that copper is prone to leaking if using compression fittings. If you want to use copper, better to weld. PB is the better alternative to copper when leaking is concerned.

I don’t know the exact installation cost for hot water piping only, but I was quoted RM2800 including hacking & retiling, repositioned cold water pipe to center the final shower system, reposition wirings for storage water heater, install hot water pipe & drain pipe for storage water tank, lowering town plaster ceiling to accommodate storage water tank and installation of storage water tank. All materials inclusive except for storage water tank itself. Additional RM350 if I opt for copper. It’s sounds quite expensive to me compare to prices I read in the internet, but looking at additional scope of works I requested, I think it wasn’t that bad laugh.gif
