What is the reason more and more banks are attracting deposit with attractive rates lately? Something is brewing for Ringgit?

More of like savings. But some people said that savings are useless. Have to gamble to get good returns. Ehehe.

Sorry I'm new to the terms OPR BNM what do they mean?
Since Msia FD interest so high, does it make sense that Bruneian/Singaporean would wanna open FD in Msia?
I know ya, taking into consideration of the exchange rate by the end of the FD period.
*
Bruneian/Singaporean dollar is a stronger currency hence the better buying power.

The government won't allow the banking system to collapse. There'll be M&A if one bank starts to fall apart or to follow US example by bailing out that particular bank with public fund from tax money.

In 1999, a bank run happened in Malaysia where Bank Negara Malaysia (the Malaysian central bank) had to take control of MBf Finance Berhad, the biggest finance company in Malaysia during that time. Many of the finance company's 120 branches saw runs on their deposits, totalling about 17 billion Ringgit.

I would say they are master of deception instead of novices.  Advertised 3.33% but actually pay 1.665% effectively. Auntie, uncle sure kena con left right centre.

Heard conversation of auntie uncle said that is good to put money in a Chinese bank. They feel more confident and secure. Say that usually only Chinese know about this good offer. laugh.gif

His concern was not on the government extending the withdrawal age, that one not much of an issue as you also pointed out EPF dividend rate far exceed FD rate. He is speculating that when one reaches age 60 in few years time, the government no longer allow lump sum withdrawal but monthly withdrawal.
*
Already happening in Singapore. You know ma that many old folks were tipu by china dolls lendir. Lump sum when they withdraw their EPF. So government took the oppotunity to implement the rule no more lump sum withdrawal. Every month can only take out a bit as kopi lui. whistling.gif

pretty new in FD here

Planning to take 10k + 1k for the new HLB +1% FD...

If I choose for 3 month, there should be no obligation in the event you need to withdraw that cash? Only losing the interest for that month alone?

Thanks

Still reading on the T&C. Kinda rclxub.gif .

However..

No interest is payable if the FD is uplifted in less than three (3) completed months. blink.gif

Accountholders’ Savings Account must remain open, active and valid throughout the Promotion Period and until 31
January 2013 to receive the Bonus Interest, failing which, the Accountholders will be disqualified from receiving the
Bonus Interest.

Gen-X, so is it must wait until 31 January 2013 to receive the interests?
