I've also experienced KIES connection problem which only can be solved after total reset which I've mentioned. As your Physical Device Object names, I cannot find it, I'm in Windows XP... I believe there are lots of applications on the market that can be used to save your Contacts and SMS into your internal SD. Then, data inside your internal SD can be moved to an external SD card. You can use wifi... but it is a little bit complicated
