I'm using this method to share the 3g connection to my notebook currently, but this work with computer as the internet connection is routed thru the phone to the computer. the phone doesn't act as a modem but a internet sharing device--like a router.

but seems like MR3420 only accept a USB modem and dial to the ISP using its own utilities. that's probably why it doesn't detect the phone when I tried this method.

I probably need to somehow transform the phone to a modem only device for MR3420 to detect it. also, I notice it doesn't charge the phone like the connection to PC, it also can't detect the phone when its turn off, unlike the computer. maybe I need to connect it thru a active USB hub?

quite a bummer as older phone can work as a pure modem like my very old Ericsson SH888i, unfortunately, it was made in the analog modem era, 3g wasn't invented then.
