hi, i wanna ask a noob question.
As i know, PRS is for long term investment. We cant withdraw money early as there will be certain fine impose on the early withdrawal. Which means, it need to be keep up to the age of retirement, and it could be around 20+/30+ years.

So, all the ups and downs now are like paper gain/paper loss. what if the market during retirement is very bad, and therefore, the returns are really low???

Can withdraw, but not withdraw all...

ref here:
http://www.ppa.my/prs/prs-faqs/
If one think mkt gonna crash, one can transfer the funds to a safer fund (i.e. conservative fund) to preserve those paper gains...By doing such, one can "actively manage" the retirement funds till 20+/30+ years later... rclxm9.gif
but la... those fund managers are paid to jaga the funds la, good times or bad times....

so.... "unit trust" = "you need trust"  icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank you for your reply~~i guess thats the way to avoid the "loss"" confused.gif

But is there charges/fee for the transfer or switching of fund??

Q:  Can I switch my PRS funds?
A: Yes, you can switch between the funds of the same fund providers. There is no switching fee and also no restriction to the number of switching transactions EXCEPT for below Fund Houses.
•CIMB Principal Asset Management - 12 times* free switch per calendar year

•Manulife Asset Management Services Berhad  - 12 times* free switch per calendar year

* one time switching per month

Q:  Can I transfer my existing PRS holding to another PRS providers?
A: Yes. you can transfer your PRS holding to another PRS providers.
However, the transfer only can be done after one year from the first subscription date. You will need to pay for PPA transfer fee of RM25 per request and others related transfer fee (if any).

That's why I resort to insurance companies and tap on their investment vehicle.
I get protection and at the same time, save up for retirement.

It may not be much... but at least, I would have money saved up for future.
Well, if you want to have a certain amount in retirement... you need to be sure if you are able to start saving now.

More savings, more fund in retirement.

Betul2. Different ppl different vehicle to grow money or to preserve value. I m interested at prs now

To be frank even the staffs oso not encouraging in buying prs. I went to cimb several times to ask about it. One of the branch said no 1 in charge if it. And another always busy with other products.

i am planning to open prs through bank to save time. My plan is to walk in to bank, speak to the personnel, fill up the form and pay. so far, 3 times walked in, the person is either not around, or i ciao 1st.
so, Plan B..manage to get the person's contact and ask regarding the sales charge thing. cause i thought prs should be zero sales charge.
unfortunately, he told me that it has 3% sales charge, but if put lumpsum of 3k or more, is only 1.5%..
Today received updates: campaign for prs, no sales charge till further notice.

It's a corporate unit trust. Definitely, they will charge certain fee. If you feel more suitable with a licensed consultant personally, you can go for that too as long they are doing their job and not just selling you. Personal experience.  innocent.gif

Please note that this information is not accurate.

I can positively confirm that FSM does not charge any sales charge for all of the PRS funds

Even if you walk into a CIMB bank and ask to buy CIMB Principal PRS funds you would not be charged any sales charge. It's correct for the past 3 years

There are other ways to make money when distributing funds, not necessarily out of the end purchasers pocket directly. Agents who charges a fee would want to make you think so for their own personal agenda  ranting.gif

Not PRS la. But approved UT for EPF. In general, PRS dont perform as well as other UT. In general across the board ya?

It was a good time to invest a month or two ago. Some fund dropped 20% from their value a few months ago but some have since recovered. I've already earned about 10% as of now. A bit regret as i dropped just a very small amount to test and unsure how the market go and how fast it can recover.

Usually i wont do this as you cant beat 5-6% percent annually with virtually no risk. Couple with 1-2% annual management fee, it is hard (but not impossible) to find a fund that can return 10% annually. Add in the risk factor.

Having said that. I expect epf divvy to be lesser than normal this year, hence i try this out for the first time

Thank you for your insight. means no more the good chance?

PRS outperform EPF?
I highly doubt that.
But if you're aiming tax relief, then why not?

Can I withdraw from my EPF to contribute to the PRS?

The PRS is a supplementary form of retirement savings in addition to the EPF and is voluntary in nature. Members are not permitted by law to withdraw from EPF to contribute to the PRS.

I wouldnt say so. It just that a month ago would be a better time. But we'll never be able to time the best time anyway.

By the way this is kinda off topic if its UT you refer to. Maybe go to UT thread?

Under iLestari, you can take EPF money from Account II and do whatever you want including investing into PRS.
If you're referring EPF-MIS (iAkaun), it's not allowed for PRS.
