I applied Ambank Card on End of Dec14. Approved on Beginning of Jan15. Got it quite late, around End of Jan15. Spend according to criteria and on 11Mar15, I received the RM650 cashback! Give it a try...

Yes, online transaction is counted as retail transaction. Also, they have explicitly mentioned the exception list which is not consider as retail transaction in their TnC:

11. For purposes of this Programme, “Retail Transactions” means the purchase of any goods or services (local and international) with the use of the credit card and may, at the Bank absolute discretion, include any card transaction as may be determined by the Bank except for the following transactions:
a. Flexi Payment Plan, Easy Payment Plan, Balance Transfer, QuickCash and Cash Advance; and/or
b. Any form of refund; and/or
c. Any dispute, unauthorized or fraudulent retail transaction; and/or
d. Interest / Management Fee payments, late payment charges, charges for cash
withdrawals, Government Service Tax and any other form of service/miscellaneous fees.

Just try. Their application process is very troublesome. Firstly, their Ambank webpage that let customer drop contact for their interest in applying their card will never get any call back from The bank to proceed the application. Well, left only 2 choices which is walk-in to their branch or bump into their roadshow team. I hardly see their branch and they do not have kiosk concept in the shopping mall. Let's say after you found their branch and able to submit your application. Their verification is strict, they need many supporting documents. Salary slip is not sufficient. You need to provide bank statement as well.

All-in-all, after you consider this troublesome processing, how many people will apply their card? Let's say 1500 application per month, 50% of applications are successful. It would only be 750customers per month. To get 9000 customers for this campaign, roughly need a year time. Now is almost a year since June2014.

This is my speculation. I am 1 of the successful applicant and beneficial of this campaign due to never give up spirit. Just sharing my 2cents.

Besides the apply and get cash campaign, I got 4x of 20% cashback for my dining and fashion spends in another campaign. But this 20% hourly cashback has ended.

Too good to be true but thanks to them...

I just swipe it with principle card (>1600). My supp card after activated only swipe less than $100.

I apply the normal platinum card. Free for life. Main usage is to enter PPL for free if I swipe 3x foreign transactions after the ppl usage. I walk-in to the branch.

Just use the card in convenient shop when traveling. Any amount will do. 3x is easy to fulfill for me. Other cards? Sure got... But my income level only entitle for platinum, so I choose Ambank platinum. Other platinum card like the Citibank and RHB one need to pay annual fees. I don't like to beg for waiver. If my income level increase, I will apply for Maybank Visa Signatures which allow to enter PPL for free...

I think should be achievable for me....now my annual card spending at 40k++...
By 2-3years time spending will go up for sure...
