Guys,
I'm driving TRD 2.5G Hilux bought newly just a month back but I wanted to changer a wider tyre using the original TRD black rims.

What is the widest I can use and tyre recommendation for Hilux. I felt the current tyre traction is not that good.

Your tyre size is 255*65*17. 275*65*17 is good enough.

What is your rim size exactly?

Dmax turbo is probably below 3000. Get them coz they are tough can boost above 30psi.

honestly I'm not good or fimiliar wt modification.
but from what i read, if you need better traction/grip, you should change to All Terrain (AT) or at least Mix Terrain (MT) tyres for that purpose. Current Tyre fitted is a Highway Terrain (HT), to reduce noise & vibration into cabin.
Wider tyres will  of course would appeals that  macho looks. cool2.gif
*
HT is for 100% road use. These are not good for mud. AT (All-terrain) is for 70% road, 30% off-road, means, you can use it off-road, but not super if the trail is wet/muddy. MT (Mud-terrain) is for 30% road use, 70% off-road. These are the best general off-road use tyres and can handle muddy trails pretty well. Of course, it also means they are not that good for on-road as the tyre threads won't hold that well compared to HT which are designed for tar road.

So when you mentioned about 'better traction/grip', that would really depend on whether you are referring to on-road or off-road. Other factors that will influence tyre grip or traction include the type of compound (softer is usually more grippy but wears off faster), thread design (to minimise aqua-planning), and of course, the physical width and profile of the tyre against the rim. Wider tyres may grip better in the dry, but when it's wet, they may slip. Low profile tyres corner better, but are stiffer therefore less comfortable.

In the end, it all depends on the usage pattern, and the amount of RM you are willing to spend. I use Maxxis Bighorn MT764, 31x10.5 R15. They are noisy, have a maximum speed rating of 140 Km/h, but they do perform pretty well off-road. My previous tyres include Maxxis MT762, Bridgestone Deuler AT, and Deuler HT. Which type and size you choose, it's up to you, but know your tyre character and limits well, drive accordingly, and you will be fine.

1. If water in fuel, will be caught by the filter. Parking isn't that bad. I've only had to give up 1-2% car parks due to it being too small. But see your skill also. If you're a bad reverse parker, then either keep your existing car or learn to reverse park.
Advise : a hilux is not a sedan car. don't go sapu corner or speed. You're much heavier and with a higher centre of gravity. Harder to stop too.
2. So far Most of the hilux i've seen stolen are parked outside the house every night. So park inside your compound at night. Buy a GPS tracker, add a 3rd party immobilizer..buy insurance..
3. Vios will definitely be lower maintenance. Each hilux service is about 400 for basic (5k) and 1+k for major (every 40k). Tyres are about 400 each. Change about 40000-80000km depends on the tyre type.

Hi all, my hilux 2.5 non VNT gonna be 2 years old after this month. I got some sudden passion of doing little mod on my hilux, like adding chip, install intercooler, change exhaust system etc. Just want to know, will these void my manufacturer warranty after doing it ? Thanks all.
*
I recommend you first try blanking the egr and shut off egr solenoid. You will feel an instant responsiveness of the car. Another mod you could consider is tuning the ecu from the professional, much better than u adding chip, where you cant actually customize much and also the price is about the same.
