You did the right thing by using Queelag's Furysword since they're both susceptible to fire damage.
Using the "boss souls" weapons are always a good choice considering all of them can be leveled up using Demon Titanite which can be easily farm from the Titanite Demon in Lost Izalith.
*
I was sitting on a stack of 30+ demon titanites for NG+ as well as a whole bunch of titanite chunks from the kiln. So upgrading them is not really a big issue as you will get about 11 through a normal playthrough, trouble is finding an appropriate toy at the right time to upgrade. Queelag's fury sword is very good simply because it's so fast and a good replacement for the drake sword which you get very early on. I did read that it's getting a nerf in the patch though.

For ornstein and really any boss, i used the great combustion spell on my +5 ascended pyromancer flame which does about 500+ damage on bosses with the advantage of the 0 recovery time and the fact that you don't use stamina means you can roll or block as required. What i found really hard about killing ornstein last is the fact that while i can block his standard attacks really easily, super ornstein has this 1 shot move which is really annoying especially if you're being too greedy in damage dealing on him. I think for NG++ i might use ornstein-smough order instead.

Patch 1.05 got released yesterday, a lot of my light armours got nerfed big time. On the plus side, twinkling titanite is a lot easier to farm which means a lot of the other unique items had their usability improved.

On the other hand, I have no idea how to defeat 4 kings in NG+ now, they were hard enough pre patch and they only way i was able to defeat them was by abusing the invulnerability from greater magic shield and using the crystal ring shield, both of which were nerfed big time.

just played this game a week ago. how to ascend my weapon? where to get the material? i got broadsword +5 already. and how to defeat basilisk in the depth without being cursed?

There's too much to explain. Everything you want to know about dark souls can be found here http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/

@The 1 coward souvenirs of reprisal are far easier to get now. I was averaging 1 drop per crow run in the painted world. In the end getting the Prayer of a Maiden achievement was a lot easier than expected.

According to EGM, DLC for Dark Souls is nearing completion and coming sometime in March. I'm personally quite excited but at the same time, considering how much the "open world" in DS was interconnected, I'm worried that this DLC might break the feel and character of the world.

@Iccyasd this was my personal game of the year for 2011. While it's certainly difficult, it's also the most rewarding game that I've played in a long while.

There is this 1 think i dont understand, are we aiming to always become human while playing? or its ok to continue as hollow?

i have reached the forest with this stingray looking monster & stone golem i have never used any humanity item saving it for future. i find that the drake sword is not as good as the halberd +5
*
It's ok to be hollow. You miss out on the ability to kindle campfires, which mean you're stuck at only 5 estus flasks unless you're rest at a campfire with a flamekeeper. Kindling the flames mean you get 10, 15, 20 flasks so you can explore further without needing to rest/dying. Other benefits also include the ability to summon phantoms for assistance, whether online co-op or npc phantoms to assist with difficult bosses. Disadvantage is that you can also be invaded by other players. Other advantages include better drop rates especially if you're looking for a particular drop. There are also some other advantages which become apparent at higher levels.

Drake sword used to be quite strong because of it's relatively high dps, fast swing time and damage for its level and but people held on to it for too long and as a consequence it was nerfed. So you're right in the sense that the upgraded halberd seems much better. You should check out http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/ for info about the game, due to the speed at which this thread gets replied to and the low number of people on the xbox side who have gotten really in depth into the game.

I'm actually quite gatal to start a new character for fun but I'm quite scared after spending 160+hrs to 1k DS...

I went back to the game and made a thief the other day, what's surprising is that I've managed to make it to the first belltower armed without levelling up. My SL5 thief is still doing quite well with only a humble bandit knife and target shield biggrin.gif

I've been working on parrying and riposting and it's a totally different game compared to my first character where admittedly i turtled through most of the encounters.. I don't really want to level up although this is an inevitability and I'm still trying to figure out how to get as far as possible without needing to level.

edit: the +5 bandit knife is amazing due to crit damage, I'm basically one shotting most of the standard mobs with about 300 damage, where i can't backstab the bleed damage is quite nice too.

The benefit of the thief is that it starts you off with a Master Key (which is great if you know what you're doing, not so great if you don't), bandit knife, a shield that's built for parrying and high dex. So you can play like a rogue, backstabbing and countering. My first char was deprived (which starts of nekkid with a club and wooden shield), it became a lightning zweihander wielding beast who could block anything but still move at top speed and cartwheel like a ninja.

For the pyromancer class, my take on the advantage is that you have access to fire spells but you don't have to pump intelligence to improve spell damage as long as you upgrade and ascend your glove. this means you can allocate stats to the fighting style that you want. If you pump intelligence, then you can play as a mage.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what class you start out as, what matters is that you evolve your character the way you want to play it.

The master key that a thief gets its the same 1 that you can choose under gift right?

Yes, its the same one, and i believe that you can now buy it later on as well.

With invasions, your invader needs to be within 10% of your soul level, he might have decided to boost his vitality at the expense of his other stats and that's still a perfectly viable build. If he has a lightning enchant or a fire enchant then all his dps stats would be wasted since there's no scaling with those weapons. Having said that, no one is invading me currently since I'm still at level 5 after having beaten blight town.

im now at Anor Londo... man those Knights respawns .... im wearing the red sealers set any better sets for Pyromancer? the gold hemm set is weaker it seems

Added on January 31, 2012, 10:41 ami still have got no idea which ultimate weapon should i forge for my pyro, i only have 12dex 29str... surely the 50str hammer is not my choice
*
This http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Quelaag%27s+Furysword

This will take you to endgame and beyond. If you didn't add to str or dex and instead bufffed endurance and vitality this would have been perfect.

So the next best alternative is this http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Greatsword+of+Artorias since you do get benefits from having high strength with this weapon. Plus it looks awesome. Just make sure you don't make the cursed version.

Having said that, I used a +5 lightning zweihander for my NG+ playthrough and that was pretty awesome as well even if it wasn't a boss weapon.

yeah, actually i have looked at the darksouls wiki regarding weapons to forge it doesnt really looks ultimate... i mean the dmg look at quelaag fury +5 @ 90 physical+255 fire with B dex scalling, if i didnt boost dex it would also means min scalling dmg. my large club +10 is atleast 400dmg with 180 poison effect A str scalling at 29str ... i mean for me i like range+dmg.

i think Greatsword of Artorias is not for me, i have 12 int & 8 faith =/ as a pyro

btw what do we do to the left over boss souls? if i only need 1? consume it ?

Added on January 31, 2012, 4:34 pmwell i think im going for Greatshield of Artorias & Great Lord Greatsword...(argh this looks like its final boss soul i wonder whats the point of making it other than going NG+?)
*
One of the reason's why quelagg is really good is that it swings fast and it doesn't use much endurance, so with the club it's 2 swings per endurance bar (I'm just guessing as it depends on how much endurance you have), whereas with queelag's furysword you can swing 4-7 times. in MMO speak while damage per swing is important (moreso for pvp), it's the damage per second that's important.

also with my +10 dagger i'm critting for close to 700 damage with 300 bleed on the unarmored mobs and i've not levelled my stats yet since i started tongue.gif But then my playstyle is to go for backstabs and parry/ripostes.

Anyway, i recommend trying the furysword anyway since the other boss weapon alternatives with queelag's suck really bad.

I don't recommend consuming boss souls especially since it's so easy to get souls nowadays anyway. And the point of the greatsword is for NG+

it will take alot time to finish this game without even a hint from guide. too many thing is 1 time go as in limited in 1 playthrough only, buying strategy guide for this game is far more worth it than buying it for other games
*
Except that the guide book was nerfed in the last patch in which they rebalanced quite a lot of the game. The hardcover guide book does look awesome though.

Just noticed, but you need to play up to anor londo in NG++ in order to get the rare weapons and miracles achievements. NG+ and ++ is a very different experience.
