actually Hitachi is a good choice for hdd...mostly notebook hdd nowadays use hitachi hdd....
my lappie's hitachi hdd not giving me any problem after 2 years++ of using....
their after sale service is really good n fast, if u havin problem on hdd n send to them 2day, u may get back on the next day or 2 days after, of coz hav to depend on how fast ur seller act also....

once they detect is bad sectors problem, straight away 1-1 exchange...correct me if i'm wrong thumbup.gif

I got a few Quantum Fireball IDE still ok even after 7 years smile.gif
Damp fast at that time in term of performance (5400rpm).

I fell that nowadays HDD not that lasting, much easier to get bad sectors.
Maybe this is due to the capacity/ density increase a lot and turning at higher rpm??

Damp scare to store important data in HDD already, always need to do backup sad.gif
Sometime HDD will just kong immediately, no sign at all....just functioning OK a few seconds before than suddenly ....gone ! shakehead.gif

mybe this because hdd nowdays work very hard..lot of program used high resource and hdd will need to read..write and rewrite again again..previous year hdd only used to run simple program like word and internet browsing.. Now computer is become a game console..so think bout the burden that hdd need to carry..

important to make back up for ur data..back up at dvd lor if u scared to used hdd. .

i've only bought seagate. the 3-4 year old one gets louder when seeking. it was quiet when new. a year old 250GB still works like new.
of course except for notebook. got a compaq v3000. it WD. kinda noisy for my liking. benq t31, a hitachi, hella silent. hitachi wins. oh and a seagate 2.5" as external drive is even more silent.

I think WD RAID version quite good. But I am now using Seagate Barracuda ES RAID ready. so far quite okay in RAID 1.
