Hi All,

I am planning to buy a Satria Neo R3 drool.gif by end of the year for my personal use to work as I am currently travelling to Cyberjaya daily in my "Kapcai King of Traffic Jams EX5" from KL. I work almost all day long at times and usually travel back in the early morning which worries my parents and also GF.

My family already have a Wira, so this R3 will be truly for the driver. I am working in an IT MNC company, specialised under Problem Management with almost close to 3 years overall experience. After taking the accounting of owning a car, I made my decisions on R3 as I am not interested in H & T's, sorry no offence. Being unique in my own way is always my style, therefore I decided the R3 is the one, less on road and two door as I am not married yet.

I will provide my bio briefly for the elders in the forum to provide me some insights on this car and how heavy will it be in my pocket.

Age:25
Salary:3.5K (Gross), Nett: RM3k
Commitments:
1) House (Mom insurance, Sister's edu, utility bills) - RM1.2k
2) Personal (PTPTN, H/P Bill, Oil EX5 and makanx2) -RM500
3) Saving 1K per month.
4) Future Development Courses saving - RM300 a month.

I believe this data is enough for all to roughly estimate on whether I am capable of buying and also maintaning the ride after that. After all, even if I am planning to get married, I don't think buying a two door car is an issue as I am not going to bring my MIL, FIL in the car, possibly use my GF's FL for commuting them.

Some specs about the car,
Price: RM79,797
Performance:
Power: 145bhp / 7000rpm
Torque: 168nm / 5000rpm
Weight: 1200kg
Engine Upgrades:
Carbon Fiber Intake System
Reprofiled Cams
Recalibrated ECU
High Flow 4-2-1 Extractors
Lightweight Aluminium pulleys
Chassis Upgrades:
16" Lightweight R3 Gunmetal Wheels
Bridgesone Potenza RE001R in 205/45
High-Temp 500 Celcius brake pads
Wheel Alignment set for spirited drives
Exterior Details:
Fire Red metallic paint
New R3 Front splitter
New R3 Rear wing
More prominent fender arches / titanium-finish trims
Interior Details:
R3 Limited edition seats in Nappa Leather
2-Tone black interior detailed in red stitching
Matt-red dashboard trims
R3 floor carpets
Engine start button
Aluminium foot pedals and gear knob
Solar and security protection.
2-DIN audio head unit with 3D GPS navigation.

Questions on the ride:
1) I heard that stage 2 engine mod like this R3 will cause the engine need to be overhaul earlier than original engine spec, Is this true?
2) This ride can be pumped using RON 95 or must be a higher one?
3) Any other crucial informations that is needed before really considering of booking a R3.
4) Found out no test drive on the R3 unit in COE, the interest seems viable now at 2.95%.

I hope all elders here can give some comments and feedbacks. Please sifus don't bash or flame me. Thank you. icon_rolleyes.gif

How much you wanna pay for DP?
I pay my Inspira 1.8MT around RM830 per month with 9 years loan and 2.88% interest.
Neo R3 installment shouldn't differ too much.
And i think you ready to reduce some of your budget (maybe saving) to take this car?

As TS stated...its mainly DRIVER car...so Inspira is out of the picture. It cant get close to the Neo's agile and playful chassis. Inspira MIVEC are not those found in old 4g92 plsssssssss...dont always quite that MIVEC...With the CPS u get a proper cam profile 'switch' which sound a lot more decent

Budget not enough, seriously. Let say ur saving is 1000 - 830 = 170? How bout Fuel? Who knows some problem here and there. Every 3 month u need to get fork 200-500 for maintenance and sometimes major service which can shoot up till 700.

Let me remind you, this car is a fuel guzzler, u won't get the same fc as Vios, so be prepared for RM200 - 300 for fuel only per month depend on the usage, and in the long run, u need to change tyres too, which is not cheap for 16", at least RM250 - 400 for 1 pcs. With neo chassis, u definitely need to paired it with a good profile tyre, not some cheap that will make you skid when u r cornering aggressively.

How bout roadtax + insurance next year? I wont be cheap, at least 1600-1800. Who knows with this great car I'm sure u gonna participate at Ulu Yam or Genting Sempah, if u hit one of those divider or something, then be prepared to for like 100 just for a touch up paint, and near 700 for a new bumper. You need at least RM2000 per month saving.

being able to afford to buy a car is one thing... being able to afford to drive is another... and being able to afford to maintain is another thing all together

if u can satisfy these 3 conditions, then by all means, buy the car.

unless ur buying the car for cash.... then ok la... that rm1000 u save will go to ur fuel n toll n maintenance n repairs (if any), wear n tear etc etc. downside is....minimal to zero savings.

u WILL see a significant rise in your cost of living with a car as opposed to a bike....i myself managed to save around 500-600 a month since i started riding to work (shah alam to mid valley)...even with a kancil, ull still see a significant rise in ur cost of living. somemore ur travelling pretty far... KL-cyberjaya

if u didnt have to pay for commitment (1) then yeah....im sure u can afford to own this car.

With 3k, max u can afford is a Viva inclusive of fuel, maintenance, insurance and road tax. 4k or more then u can opt for Satria Neo R3 so work harder.

errrr.... i think viva suits you... unless you earn 4k+ then can get this car. personally,i drive satria neo also. monthly fuel for me rm350-rm400... fulltank average rm80 with fc 7.0l/100km - 8.0l/100km.
get the car is easy but to maintain it is the other problem....
personally, my next 2nd car definitely wont be proton and im not into proton. the only reason i still keep this car is because my late father bought it for me so it has some senti mental value to me. with that SNR3 price i think u can option other models

just my 2 cents!

Get Inspira 1.8 manual. It's same price with SR3 but it's MIVEC vs local CPS.

If want SR3 get a normal CPS and buy the mods is cheaper unless u prefer red car.

TS say for "Driver" car, Inspira things like more for family comfortable.
Well TS, if u really want it get-it! it worth for your money with all R3 spec and kit's especially.
At my area already got 1 who use it, the engine sound really nerve and thrill.

6.7l/100km is on the dashboard, u know that figure is fake. The real value is near 9l/100km. Mind you, mine is 7.4l/100km, but its like 1liter for 10km. Go figure. Of course i drive like madman, 160-170km, if u drive like aunty, then don't buy SNR3, go buy kancil or something. I suggest TS just buy Satria GTI, and take care of it more then ur girlfriend lol coz its a really really reallllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy hot hatch...........

This is actually a rather accurate benchmark for those taking the maximum car loan to cover purchase, maintenance + a bit for contingency.

The other recommendation for serious consideration is - consider buying 2nd hand. Higher risk vs very good deals to be found. wink.gif

No offence TS,
But wit ur indicated spare cash, i think a used Putra/Wira 1.8, Satria GTi or Ford Lynx 2.0RS would be wiser.

Tat also depend on how much downpayment u hv.

Not interested in Inspira la bro... futhermore, not into hard core modding too. Just want to have something that can be wild at times if kena cucuk and also tame on normal days not forgetting unique.

getting Satria neo R3 is already hard core.

2 door local car for rm70k++ is hard core tongue.gif

buying 1.8manual inspira is softcore la wei.

+1

being able to afford to buy a car is one thing... being able to afford to drive is another... and being able to afford to maintain is another thing all together

if u can satisfy these 3 conditions, then by all means, buy the car.

unless ur buying the car for cash.... then ok la... that rm1000 u save will go to ur fuel n toll n maintenance n repairs (if any), wear n tear etc etc. downside is....minimal to zero savings.

u WILL see a significant rise in your cost of living with a car as opposed to a bike....i myself managed to save around 500-600 a month since i started riding to work (shah alam to mid valley)...even with a kancil, ull still see a significant rise in ur cost of living. somemore ur travelling pretty far... KL-cyberjaya

if u didnt have to pay for commitment (1) then yeah....im sure u can afford to own this car.
*
As of satisfying the 3 conditions, not sure though. But not planning to buy the car cash, max can pay d/p is RM12k. Yeah, I am traveling quite far and my work hours always vary (not shift work), its normal office hours but the time I come back is always past midnight due to overlapping time zones with different geo's and request's. I understand that my bike is cost saver, but the traveling time + working hours is tiring on a daily basis, that's why came up with a plan to buy a car.

Commitment 1 is my responsibility bro, can't help it. Father's income can't support much so as eldest son, no choice.

This is actually a rather accurate benchmark for those taking the maximum car loan to cover purchase, maintenance + a bit for contingency.

The other recommendation for serious consideration is - consider buying 2nd hand. Higher risk vs very good deals to be found.  wink.gif
*
I considered buying a second hand but parents not allowing me to take one, maybe afraid of the second hand issues. Despite my dad's Wira 1.6 is second hand stock standard and its almost 14 years old and can smoke most new ones...hehe!

same condition with TS before...

but after think twice, concern about monthly payment and most important people will target ur car becuase of the R3 parts.

In the end, I took neo cps only...

TS, please take many things into ur consideration. something u just cannot follow ur heart, trust me smile.gif ...

Thanks bro, will take it into consideration. Parking for R3 is a risk, must be guarded and safe, if not car on top brick stones.

1) whatever the previous posters said, biggest example madman, please take it to heart
2) based on your earnings and commitments, you're 100% wont be able to support the car
3) new car != zero problems. even a BMW or Merc can have problems, whats more a proton?

solution:
- consider 2nd hand (again, new cars may also have problems, going 2nd hand, if the condition good, and cheap, its a steal actually)
- consider saving more downpayment (or cash out if you're going 2nd hand)

i understand about the working hours... im in the same situation as u... office hours but usually go back past midnight... and overnights is very common....being able to go home at 8pm is considered VERY early in my office biggrin.gif but i still ride from shah alam to MV everyday on my kriss... 30 mins ride 1 way @ full throttle. yes it gets very tiring. but in the end, the fact remains that u may be able to afford to buy the car, but with installments, fuel n toll... its seriously gonna make u broke every month...

i used to drive to work daily... til my engine blew. after that, while my car is in the workshop, i started riding.. and the savings are ridiculous! my toll for 1 day pays for my bike fuel for 2 days! and i dont even have to touch my car's fuel money.

my main point here is not about how much ull be able to save every month by riding... but about how much ur cost of living will increase if u drive. n considering the fact that ur gonna drive pretty far everyday... ur fuel cost will most likely be higher than normal. it may be tiring... but in the end...ur going home to rest. so appreciate the rest u get. thats wat ive been doing...hence i dun mind riding.

i understand about commitment 1 as well... im not asking u to drop it...in fact i think u should maintain it. be a good son.

the fact is, u may be able to fulfill all 3 requirements, but ur lifestyle will definitely take a HUGE hit. long distance fuel & toll will definitely make things very tight for u every month.....

i think the best way to find out is for u to calculate how much the monthly installment will be if u buy the SNR3....then put aside that amount.. and then take ur family's wira 1.6 n drive it to work daily for a month. pay for the toll n petrol... mebbe do this for 2 months... and see how much ur lifestyle takes a hit. take note that the SNR3 will prolly consume more fuel than ur dad's wira 1.6.

if cant take the wira, then rent something for the month which will cost about the same as ur installments. n do the same thing... though this method is abit waste of money la...but at least ull find out.

even then, u still need to take into account the servicing.... service at service centre aint cheap.. but u have to do it there for a certain period to maintain ur warranty.

EDIT: if ur truly desperate for a car, then i wouldnt recommend anything higher than a normal Satria Neo.... even that oso prefer u to get 2nd hand so that its cheaper. imho, the best would be Kelisa. comfortable, good fuel consumption even for highways (if driven normally according to speed limit), and installments shouldnt be that much.

*
RM2000 per month saving> Bro, sure or not..my salary is like him..married some more..honestly i think u over budet d la bro..if normal driving ok wat..fc gyzzler?no bro..that's where u wrong..fc is just normal la...u cannot put in the same category as Vios and all.. rclxub.gif ...
spec also diff bro...basically wanna use the car, just dont over spend la every month..if can be prudent, 70k car still ok la..

I feel you man, you do provide me some good inputs. I have tried my dad's wira before and it was true it sucked my money alot, but the hassle was less or none. In Bike, I travel almost 1 hour to and 1 hour fro daily. It sucks more when all the superbikes run in the third lane and can reach in ten minutes to cyberjaya according to some of my colleagues while I will be still in the middle of nowhere vmad.gif .

But, taking into account of all the comments, I definitely need re-think my decision on the R3, looks like as of now, it must still wait and probably I can't buy it in the future as age catches up and family will say buy a bigger car if you wanna get married. blink.gif

It seems to me you need a faster bike, not a car. Go buy Kawasaki 150KRR SE, the fast yet cheap, can hit 190km/h, just like Neo. Not sure the meter is ringan or not.

a possible option... trade in ur ex5 and buy a bigger bike...not too big.. rm10k or less....mebbe 150cc enough la.. something good and comfortable for highway cruising so u wont be so tired. preferably something that can cruise at 140 or 160 easily.

im thinking of doing the same... some supermoto type bike...but the basket and the back box on my kriss is so useful hahahhahahahaha

and TS, remember to buy insurance, saw in your commitment without insurance.

no matter how much you save a month, anything happens, its like a fairy tale already.

seen so many tauke make hundreds of thousands, but never buy insurance, so when they die, the kids dont even have money for college

Er raincoat cannot use? Bring extra cloth, no need for pant. Coz sometimes when really heavy rain, ur cloth can get wet abit, but pant nevermind la. 2T oil 1l = 1000km. OK la, summore if u count the toll fees u saved by using bike and use it for 2t oil, brape la sgt. Hell u can even buy the RM40 2t oil for 1l.

Then go buy a tank.
*
TS, now you have a few choices.

buy satria, civic, bigger motorbike, and a tank.

thats why i like lowyat forum, lol. ( they give you the choice they themselves wont make in real life, lol)

for forummer who is not interested in mil tech, staying in a tank is not safe at all. everyone can/will shoot at you, even RPG can kill you, you are a huge target, number 1 in the list to kill.

heheheh...jk only...banshee gitu gitu je... mostly just accesories... nuthin in it that makes serious power.

as for buying a EG/EK... totally out of the TS budget... 1st have to buy cash.... which the TS dun have... 2nd old car, so there will be wear n tear to think about.... 3rd...honda that alone will surely make everything expensive.

although there are 4 door EG's out there selling for cheap... but mostly in sabah i see.. original EG8, 100% stock..clean car, well maintained... 11k doh.gif

stock non-VTEC EF mebbe can get for 12k... but too old

When i have my 3k salary i was driving honda city at that time...why cant?
Its was 2007 with 10k downpayment and monthly repayment 1050...
each month i then keep xtra 150 for the coming next year road tax insurance...
it then has 2 year free service and 3 years warranty which then maintenance was not a thing to worry about..

Buying used EG term means CASH...i dont know why so many people asking to buy this kind of car but its not easy to FORK out 30-40k for it...i believe TS will be the same...And what if take out that amount then ride for a few month this 1 kaput, that 1 kaput....means he have to fork out more money to repair also

TS...if u dun mind then u can just stick to the campro cps...nonit r3....becaosue i believe R3 will be the center of attention...just like a satria GTi....always kena break in or whole car gone...because many goodies inside

Remember to install best anti theft gps tracking system if you buy the R3 Satria Neo. But it still won't prevent people from taking the R3 badges etc.

buy cheaper car like viva and you will live as comfortable as you are right now with ex5 (money wise). OR, buy basic 1.6 neo. it's still a neo chasis and 1.6 engine. you can still have fun with it on the h'way and touge runs tongue.gif

like or not... theres no doubt theyre good cars.. especially in terms of modding potential (which is why i bought one drool.gif)....theyre even pretty reliable cars.. any problems are pretty common (like honda's B & D series distributors) but parts are abundance and at a reasonable price.

1., 2. and 4. must be paid every month.
i'm assuming you don't have GF, otherwise your 2. wouldn't be that low.
so in reality you only have 1k for your intention of paying car monthly installment, petrol and maintenance + savings.

if monthly repayment is 600, petrol is 300, you only left 100 for maintenance? what happen when your car need major service? annual roadtax + insurance? do you want to be GF-less for this whole time? no saving for this whole time?

you can choose above option and stay like that for 2-3 years and pray that your job is secure for that whole time until your increment is enough to ease the burden. or you can save the 1k for 1-2 years and use it for deposit and that time hopefully your increment is enough to pay for the installment.

QUOTE(Mochamalaysian @ Oct 6 2011, 12:01 AM)
Hi All,

I am planning to buy a Satria Neo R3  drool.gif  by end of the year for my personal use to work as I am currently travelling to Cyberjaya daily in my "Kapcai King of Traffic Jams EX5" from KL. I work almost all day long at times and usually travel back in the early morning which worries my parents and also GF.

My family already have a Wira, so this R3 will be truly for the driver. I am working in an IT MNC company, specialised under Problem Management with almost close to 3 years overall experience. After taking the accounting of owning a car, I made my decisions on R3 as I am not interested in H & T's, sorry no offence. Being unique in my own way is always my style, therefore I decided the R3 is the one, less on road and two door as I am not married yet.

I will provide my bio briefly for the elders in the forum to provide me some insights on this car and how heavy will it be in my pocket.

Age:25
Salary:3.5K (Gross), Nett: RM3k
Commitments:
1) House (Mom insurance, Sister's edu, utility bills) - RM1.2k
2) Personal (PTPTN, H/P Bill, Oil EX5 and makanx2) -RM500
3) Saving 1K per month.
4) Future Development Courses saving - RM300 a month.

I believe this data is enough for all to roughly estimate on whether I am capable of buying and also maintaning the ride after that. After all, even if I am planning to get married, I don't think buying a two door car is an issue as I am not going to bring my MIL, FIL in the car, possibly use my GF's FL for commuting them.

Some specs about the car,
Price: RM79,797
Performance:
Power: 145bhp / 7000rpm
Torque: 168nm / 5000rpm
Weight: 1200kg
Engine Upgrades:
Carbon Fiber Intake System
Reprofiled Cams
Recalibrated ECU
High Flow 4-2-1 Extractors
Lightweight Aluminium pulleys
Chassis Upgrades:
16" Lightweight R3 Gunmetal Wheels
Bridgesone Potenza RE001R in 205/45
High-Temp 500 Celcius brake pads
Wheel Alignment set for spirited drives
Exterior Details:
Fire Red metallic paint
New R3 Front splitter
New R3 Rear wing
More prominent fender arches / titanium-finish trims
Interior Details:
R3 Limited edition seats in Nappa Leather
2-Tone black interior detailed in red stitching
Matt-red dashboard trims
R3 floor carpets
Engine start button
Aluminium foot pedals and gear knob
Solar and security protection.
2-DIN audio head unit with 3D GPS navigation.

Questions on the ride:
1) I heard that stage 2 engine mod like this R3 will cause the engine need to be overhaul earlier than original engine spec, Is this true?
2) This ride can be pumped using RON 95 or must be a higher one?
3) Any other crucial informations that is needed before really considering of booking a R3.
4) Found out no test drive on the R3 unit in COE, the interest seems viable now at 2.95%.

I hope all elders here can give some comments and feedbacks. Please sifus don't bash or flame me. Thank you. icon_rolleyes.gif

Fuh, so ambitious... I earn more money than you and I just drive a Saga LMST...
Trust me, when you start paying for your fuel consumption, maintainance and wear & tear of your car parts, you're going to feel the burn and experience no savings / using up your savings to look after your unique car. If you really want a two door car, you're better off buying a 2nd hand one with low milage in the market. You can always get the R3 modifications later (2nd hand or new), depending on your preference and customize your car to your liking.
Also, you didn't consider depreciation value of your car... What if you need to sell your car one day due to unforeseen circumstances?

I do have a GF and that is my budget bro... I assume we are not the couples who spend a lot when we are out, furthermore, my work schedule doesn't allow me to meet her often too, even on Sat and Sun are used to sleep all day to recover for the next week at times.

I have did my saving for the past three years which suffices but I do understand the new car will tekan my pocket more and I can see my hard earned money vanishing for Insurance, Roadtax, Maintenance, Oil, Toll, Carpark(Free),etc.

So my only choice is keep riding for the next 2-3 years and buy a car later meh?

I think you may consider to buy a sub rm10k car to shield you from rain/sun and for safety (nissan sunny, saga lmts...). Hope you don't need to work for bank so early, live your life, there are so many things besides "car", like travel/trip, decent food, drinks, investement, or even later stage-> house.

+1 on this too! House is a better investment.
Car is just something to get you from point A to B. No use buying an expensive car to show off unless you're filthy rich.
In the end, nobody cares anyway what car you drive if you have no money in your pockets.

Now realise I overlook your 1st post that you got mention you have GF. So the more reason you need to save money, for marriage.

There is another choice, to get cheaper car such as Viva or 2nd hand car. Buying cash for the 2nd hand if you can afford. But of course you need to be very knowledgeable about your car so you can minimize the maintenance cost.

But in the end you'll feel that using bike is still the most friendly to your wallet.

+1 on this too! House is a better investment.
Car is just something to get you from point A to B. No use buying an expensive car to show off unless you're filthy rich.
In the end, nobody cares anyway what car you drive if you have no money in your pockets.

Waja CPS MT. I drive city about 3.5k rpm below, RM50 it give me about 220-250km max. Imagine r3..... Not sure if you can let your foot not to paddle it to the max and redline it all the time. RM3k is not enough bro seriously. For such car, if you follow the OEM spec of tyres, you need RM400 per donut now. RE002 potenza. And remember you need to go back to Proton for service and their service charges are the same as toyota and honda. Unless your 1k saving dont need to save, just spent on car :_)

For Mocha to discuss with family..

Buy car - you are travelling too far daily
Buy new - easier to budget maintenance + manufacturer warranty
Borrow short max 5 years - to save interest, cater for new future expenses e.g. property, marriage

Suggestion

New Viva - say loan 30K 4% 5 yrs - monthly 600
New Saga - loan 40K 4% 5 yrs - monthly 800

Wow, according to the car price ==> annual salary(after deduct EPF) calculation:

Need at least RM6000 for a 80k car to be safe from extra burden...

My current salary almost 3k, now driving a 6 years City, its service + re-painting cost are killing me... FC still ok.

Hell yea I hugging my City tight now... could never go back to my old Kancil...

I got this City in low mileage and super cheap, from my father's friend who want to change his wife car to a Volks. Basically this car rarely used before coming to me.

Mileage after 6 years: 27K
