I don't no which 1 more important for you. The saving or the type of work.

For saving 2in1, Impact drill can save your money. Cause it can use for wall and any normal drilling. For screw, just use screw driver.

Or train yourself how to control it. The impact drill like bosch is speed controllable.

Otherwise you got to buy 2 type of drill.

I use a lot of impact drill for Ikea furniture assembly. Not a problem at all.

I've just moved in to a new place and wanna start with some DIY projects, mainly home furniture and fixtures (which needs drilling to the concrete wall).

I live in a condo, build somewhere in the early 2000s.

Now after reading the thread, it seems like the way to go is a rotary hammer drill with another drill to screw stuffs.

I can still budget for the above but am I better off saving that money and buy myself this drill that is currently on sale ACE Hardware? http://www.acehardware.com.my/Promotions_4_1.htm

Will it still do its job? Am afraid after purchasing nanti, cannot drill to my concrete wall pulak.

If no, then I'll just but the infamous Makita rotary hammer.

Thank you all.
*
That drill is enough for you to drill some concrete. But make sure it is 400w or above.

yes u are correct smile.gif
but i found last time corded drill give me too much hassle in assembling furniture especially the complicated one.
first, the size is big and will have restriction on accessibility
second, all the tangling wire make me uncomfortable  rclxub.gif

Just use the screw driver if you want to save. It is not your everyday job right ? And you as strong as a man? flex.gif

HR2470 found for Rm479 - Just not sure if there is a reserved price on the bid

http://www.lelong.com.my/makita-hr2470-rot...14-05-Std-P.htm
24mm is a bit overkill for me. i only need to drill maybe 6-8mm holes for wall plugs.....
*
If selling at that price is quite cheap. If not mistaken this cost around RM550.

hi,

which drill bit to buy for drilling stainless steel ?
thanks..
*
Just HSS. SS need new drill bit or not really worn out drill bit to drill. SS wear out the drill bit rather fast.

During drill, use coolant or water to cold down the drilling.

it doesnt have a levelling gauge but it has like a floating gimbal thingy inside that lights up an indicator if its not level.
the gimbal will automatically line up the laser. but it doesnt work when it is lying on its back
i have yet to read the instruction. maybe its possible
*
I think that 1 is leveling gauge. Once it horizontal line level, the vertical line will straight up. Try it out and let us know here.

QUOTE(paskal @ Aug 23 2014, 06:57 PM)
get the new model.
i'm using the older 10.8-2 and it's much more versatile compared to the ProDrive which my cousin has. at RM270 do get the newer 1080-2 as you'll only lose the battery charge led. it has longer head, smaller battery and a bit heavier.

difference between the torque isn't much and you'll never use them to drill large steel anyway. longer head is actually preferred as the older 10.8-2 is unbalanced with the back heavier compared to the front. battery level meter isn't really needed as the battery charges in under 30 min. also the smaller battery won't make much of a difference since you'll have 2 and could keep one fully charged. i've never used more than half even half days of work with them.

if budget is at RM500 get the cordless drill with impact.
*
It doesn't look new. I have the exactly like this and it already more than 4yrs. Price not expensive also.

must be this - http://www.amazon.com/Makita-LCT209W-Lithi...makita+cordless

whats the difference - drill and driver? why need one for each?
*
1 is impact drill and 1 is drill. Impact good for wall and wood screw. Also wall drilling. But not for metal drilling. Not accurate.

Drill mostly for wood and metal drilling. Provide more accurate hole drilling.

You can see both chucking are different.

This makita set is a good buy. There have others similiar package too. Buy, buy, buy. drool.gif

QUOTE(shahzad86 @ Oct 8 2014, 04:42 PM)
finally after contemplating for so long on what kind of drill i should buy for my home use (after reading 42 pages of this thread)

I am on the verge to get the Makita HR2470 for my 1st drill, cheapest i can get is for RM520.

Probably will get a cordless driver later. i think one forummer did mention best combo is rotary drill for holes and cordless for driving screws.

Main use is for wall plugs, got a few of them to do, next month may use to install wall drying deck. It may sound like an overkill but I have used my neighbor's normal drill and it was quite the effort to install 2 wall plugs for curtain railing.

Btw, anywhere else can get cheaper at sg buloh, shah alam area? initial budget was RM400 only tongue.gif
*
The price is around that. Maybe ask to throw in some free drill bit.

If your house is some red brick/sand brick structure, maybe bosch re450 is good enough. But if you intend for big hole through or concrete wall, than better invest for a rotary drill.

This is only cost RM9.50 each. While the jaw locking plier is only RM10.50. Bigger 1 size up is cost RM1 more.

I think this is old stock and they want to clear it. The new price tag stick over to the old tag. It cost RM23.50 from the old tag. Checking at net, this tools sell at amazon cost RM20+.

If you want to get it, head over to Brother's at kelana jaya.

been thinking of this Bosch GBH 2-20 DRE. A bit cheaper than the Makita
*
The Makita spec abit confuse.

For this Makita HR2470, Blow per minute 0-4,500bpm, Net weight 2.6kg (5.7lbs), Input 780W. Lowest price is RM480.

For Makita HR1830, Blow per minute 0-5,000bpm, Net weight 1.7kg (3.7lbs), Input 440W. Lowest price RM488.

Given this spec, seems like HR1830 are more value to buy. Does the Blow per minute is equal to the force of hammer? But if using power 780W compare to 440W, HR1830 is only half of it. rclxub.gif
