QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Jun 18 2018, 02:28 PM) Ur using 35mm on crop sensor right with peaking? 55mm on APSC...For street, most shots also around 2.5-3m so make a habit of keeping lens at 3m then gently focus accordingly. Magnify if u must. I use peaking... because no viewfinder. Default I put it around 3-5m. i was a bit shy to stay too close... If steady place I think I am ok with focus. If running kids or moving people in crowed is still a hit or miss. Lonely lady by The Boulevard, on Flickr1st photo was out of focus but i think the ghostly feel is okay. 2nd photo, I think my focus is on point. If i was out of focus, the little girl will got bokeh around her ear ring. 3rd pic, where the focus point is on the baby left iris. The greatest scene maybe turn down a bit of aperture to fully focus whole face. What do you think? This post has been edited by wayne1004: Jun 18 2018, 03:36 PM |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Jun 18 2018, 04:38 PM) The benefits of using manual focus lens is that it slows one down and allow thinking before pressing the shutter button. My perception from online - street photography something interesting you see around.See sifu Grajindo's shots... the intent of each shot is very clear. A good picture tells a story without needing words/description 1) Crocs. Hiding the faces and having the subject in the middle 1/3 of the frame puts focus on it 3) Old skool posters that we don't see anymore 4) Shadow and light... instead of shooting immediately, he waited till someone walked by like he's walking towards the light....the mural's stall. I like this shot the best. 5) Shiny glint in new building vs old. What I get from your photos is that you're learning to use new gear and then turned the results into B&W, add grain trying to make it look better. Pinjam ur photos If someone in the photo, the photo should able to reflect their face expression in the scene. Waiting for a good timing / angle is icing on the cake, but usually is an instant shoot for particular moment. The problem i found out after the post is my picture is lack of interesting element and perhaps no deep meaning on society? Perhaps I called it no soul or without dynamic element? If my direction is correct, will this photo make a little bit more sense? The Balloon Seller by The Boulevard, on FlickrThis post has been edited by wayne1004: Jun 18 2018, 05:34 PM |

QUOTE(Grajindo @ Jun 18 2018, 08:06 PM) speaking from someone that enjoys roaming on the street with intention to shoot, i was trying to understand what is street photography too but after sometime, i gave up since everyone has their own understanding, some says you must include people in, and some says to have their face, and with their face some says it's not street photography but portrait photography. so it's a never ending. my take from this is shoot and have fun, in the process browse online and see what kind of street shooting catch your attention more, and from there you would slowly learn about what is worth shooting what is not worth shooting. one of my fav street photographers is Ho Fan, reason being that his photos draw me into the scene itself. and see how all the photos are composed so carefully that you not they are not mere snapshots. i get some hints. but let me try to shoot more. |

QUOTE(TrialGone @ Jun 19 2018, 03:05 PM) Actually advice is take a look at some of good street shots (that u like) and see if you can do the same. From there u will find ur street shots style. Example majority of time I like street shots with rain in it. So i tried looking for rain scene. Yes copy is the fastest way to learn... I cannot recall all images but if I sense the scene somewhere I saw before I will take the shot.Except don't follow people like gilden and eric kim cause their style is annoying. Eventually, I will just take the photo I like it doesn't matter what people said. Personally not really like street portrait or even worse street model photography. A candid photography will be my preference to start. Definitely will not take that kind of super close up picture that annoy the street guys. |

QUOTE(Grajindo @ Jun 19 2018, 05:01 PM) Keep an album of photos which inspire you. And view these photos time to time and compare to yours. This does not only meant for street shooting but for all genre. Learnt this from a local photographer and found it to be very useful. Sure. That's why I upload here for C&C. XDDo not limit yourself with what to take what not to take, if there is time that you could see something great in a super close up picture, step forward and take that shoot. Am sure you have heard it countless time, photography in the form of art is very subjective and hence do not limit yourself. Just to share my thought that I bring with me whenever I shoot, but of course, I am still trying hard to get the real keepers shot. Who you are? by The Boulevard, on Flickr IMAG4224-01-01 by The Boulevard, on FlickrThis post has been edited by wayne1004: Jun 20 2018, 09:58 AM |

QUOTE(tedfuhrer @ Jun 20 2018, 04:07 PM) Hm.. I'm hoping to find a group of streetphographers for photo-trips. Not necessarily to go far, could even just be 1/2 day trips to Petaling Streets or Sekinchan or Pulau Ketam and such, but eventually wouldn't mind traveling out of KL. I usually do it alone, like just a morning shoot from 8am to 12pm, with makan and coffee breaks in between. Which par of KL u are in? |

QUOTE(Grajindo @ Jun 20 2018, 06:14 PM) first shot could been better if you get a real people happen to be another side of the frame. that would create a nice juxtaposition Great to know that. Mannequin looks like have a cynical face for me. haha. A human face will represent more real emotion to the photo.the second shot could been better if you manage to wait for that subject enters into the frame and create a nice shadow. to me this would be more interesting. the light is good, and the thing you need is subject. understand that it's on a metro so the door will close anytime, so sometimes it's about luck. that's just what i thought tho, might work might not work The train one... you are correct. I listened to the advise and try some shot this evening... hopefully what i get from you guys applied in the pictures. but i still prefer B&W. cannot wait for C&C. 20180620191134_IMG_4095-01 by The Boulevard, on Flickr 20180620194601_IMG_4153-01 by The Boulevard, on Flickr 20180620195505_IMG_4185-01 by The Boulevard, on Flickr 20180620194233_IMG_4150-01 by The Boulevard, on Flickr 20180620200216_IMG_4201-01 by The Boulevard, on Flickr |

QUOTE(TrialGone @ Jun 22 2018, 10:47 AM) Ok shots but still feel like snapshots. Last one would look better if there is something interesting or juxtapose scene beneath the billboard. well said. I think i got the point. - Lack of interaction between the environment and the object. - Photo composition lack of contrast |

QUOTE(TrialGone @ Jun 22 2018, 01:05 PM) .....not really. Well u got the points right but what i actually meant was the shots needs to have something interesting that will make people look at it and trying to figure out what is going on or admire it or meaningful context. Something out of the mundane. An analogy would be like nascar race. Seeing car going fast around oval seem interesting at first but after a while u just realise its just turning left over and over. But if suddenly u see cars start going right, fly over and people punching each other on track, you will focus on that rather than who wins the race. But of coz, does not have to be something shocking. Lifestyle, artline like buildings can also be interesting if done right, usually people don't see everyday. Except people looking at smartphones lifestyle and shots of beggars, that I already bored sure. like you said... something interesting...rather than typical beggars or cellphone users.perhaps instead of simply walk around, perhaps wait at a better spot to get a some chances of good photo. |
