Hey guys, asking on behalf of someone.
Is it possible to sign up for debit card if the person is turning 18 this year but before his birthday? The account should be under individually and not joint with parents.
Thanks!

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread to ask, but I have some question for those who have cards under Bank Of China...
I'm thinking of getting a Great Wall Prepaid Card, is there any specific thing that I need to take note of during the application? Can it be topped up using the BOC app? And what are your experiences of using the card locally since it's a Unionpay card? Just thinking of getting a Unionpay card and this seems like the suitable one.
Thanks!

QUOTE(moonsatelite @ Sep 7 2019, 12:06 AM) I am one of the owners of the card, its actually a nonsense card. You CANNOT reload the card over the internet (be it via an app or internet banking) as it HAS to be reloaded over the counter with Cash or Cheque and the exchange rate is generally bad. But Unionpay is generally not a roadblock anymore as compared to a few years ago, KFC, McDonalds, Giant, Tesco, GrabPay, Aeon and many more to try do support Unionpay It's RM 24 for the registration fee and it'll last until it expires, the benefits are No Dormant Fee Charges Wow really? Thought it's gonna be like a proper prepaid card, which allows us to top up the card online like Bigpay and Merchanttrade etc., but it sounds really inconvenient for a prepaid card... But is it wise to go for their Unionpay debit card instead? Just gonna use it for occasional usage and probably use it for some savings... I know PBB has Unionpay debit card as well, but had bad experience with them in the past so I wouldn't wanna make a return to PBB. This post has been edited by xperiaDROID: Sep 7 2019, 01:06 AM

QUOTE(fruitie @ Sep 7 2019, 01:39 AM) Can try ICBC UnionPay too but Chinese banks online banking is one of the worst I have seen so far in term of convenience but good for security. Need to install certificate in the laptop you use and etc. I hope this is no longer needed. I got my card 6 years ago and didn't bother to renew the card or do anything about it. I only used it during my first two trips in China and that time ICBC Malaysia allowed IBG unlike Bank of China. Subsequently I use Alipay and WeChat Pay in all my China trips. Correct me if I'm wrong but, ICBC only has 1 branch nationwide which is in KLCC right? But I found out that both Bank of China and ICBC have their own respective apps, so I guess IBFT and IBG wouldn't be an issue from them nowadays, but I do rely a lot on IBFT though... But is it true that ICBC requires a minimum deposit of RM 500 to open an account with them? At least according to RinggitPlus? This post has been edited by xperiaDROID: Sep 7 2019, 10:52 AM

QUOTE(fruitie @ Sep 7 2019, 11:26 AM) ICBC has a few branches but I only visited the one in Ampang, now moved to KLCC. http://malaysia.icbc.com.cn/ICBC/%e6%b5%b7...vice/ContactUs/Cannot recall the minimum deposit because I definitely deposited more than required because I was away in China for months. Good thing is it has two accounts in MYR and RMB. So can IBG/IBFT to MYR account and convert to RMB based on your needs. If I really need an UP card now, I will just stick to PBB. These Chinese banks really giving me too much of headache. Not like it makes any difference because if one wants to link to WeChat Pay or Alipay, nope it will not be recognized as China bank. Just a normal Malaysia issued card. So don't bother to waste any energy. I will only open my own China bank account when I'm in China. I guess I'll also drop by at PBB to enquire about the Unionpay debit card then... Thank you so much for the clarification! QUOTE(moonsatelite @ Sep 7 2019, 03:16 PM) To give you more information, I like to tell you that Bank of China (Malaysia) only has IBG & DuitNow services only, there's no IBFT for BOC Guess I can settle with Duitnow since I do use it as well, but I'll do visit BOC and PBB at the same day to enquire about their Unionpay cards! Thank you so much for the information!

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Sep 1 2020, 11:42 PM) Anyone here has ICBC UnionPay debit card ? I'm interested in this too, wondering if their debit card has MyDebit and also Unionpay Quickpass feature though, seems that their website is still showing the old design. Thinking of getting a Unionpay debit card from them, hopefully no hassle requirements like some banks. This post has been edited by xperiaDROID: Oct 17 2020, 03:35 PM

QUOTE(a.lifehacks @ Oct 17 2020, 04:11 PM) I actually do have a Unionpay card from BOC, the cross border Unionpay QR is indeed useful for travelling, even can be used locally but only if the merchant accepts Unionpay QR. The process in opening a savings account in BOC is actually pretty smooth though, service is great too, in case if anyone is interested. Just kinda curious what ICBC has to offer and how the card looks like, so far BOC seems a little more aggressive in attracting more Malaysians to hop into their services, while ICBC doesn't seem to be doing much even on their own website, too bad these Chinese banks are underrated and have just few branches nationwide. QUOTE(a.lifehacks @ Oct 17 2020, 05:57 PM) How’s the acceptance rate for UnionPay in Malaysia like? Is it far higher than AMEX / JCB? Can see Unionpay expanding quite aggressively here, especially in KL areas Acceptance wise maybe slightly higher than AMEX, but definitely far higher than JCB Too bad JCB is basically non-existent here when it comes to cards nowadays.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Oct 18 2020, 12:21 PM) It’s using a dedicated security device which is needed every time you want to login. And they do support instant transfer too. For some reason this feature isn’t published anywhere but I had tried it and it worked. Fund was credited instantly. That was from BOC to OCBC. But a number of banks still don’t support instant transfer to BOC. Layout of BOC online banking is still like from 10 years ago though lol That's what I don't like about BOC lol, that e-token security device is needed for certain things, and the device needs to be replaced like every few years, mine is until 2023 though. Hopefully things will change by then. They actually released Instant Transfer this year though if I'm not wrong, which is more convenient, luckily the banks that I use support Instant Transfer to BOC so I don't have to purposely go to Menara OSK in KL just to use CDM machine. Will pay ICBC a visit when this pandemic situation gets better hopefully.

QUOTE(sam717 @ Oct 26 2020, 05:30 PM) Btw... now open BSA no need to even go to bank. Use HLB new app Apply@HLB then can get debit card sent to you.. no need so mafan go bank Currently only HLB and Maybank provide such service if I'm not wrong, more banks will follow suit in conjunction with BNM encouraging banks to adopt e-KYC verification method for the convenience of consumers. HLB can be done using Apply@HLB Maybank can be done using MAE by Maybank2U Cards can be delivered to your doorstep after completing your verifcation. QUOTE(Kopistall @ Jan 3 2023, 05:10 AM) My BOC debit card is,expiring this Feb. How long does it take for a new replacement if I go to their branch directly? Depends on how many people waiting on the spot, previously went to their KL branch to change my e-token and there were few people waiting and it took around 30-40 minutes.
