Anyone else having trouble with Ambank debit cards doing online shopping? Payment keeps getting declined even though I have more than enough funds and I did manage to pay for a member fee on MyUSA. But that was one time and in February. The same week, I tried to buy something from book depository worth about 15 USD and that got declined. I went to the local branch the next day to get the bank to explain. The bank rep sat at her desk and dialled their own credit card hotline to answer my questions. Which seems a bit silly.

I told them my issue. And my limits were set to maximum already. So why on earth would they decline my payment? The lady on the hotline told me she would call me back. So I left and as I walked home, I received a call. She told me she doesn't know what's wrong and that the fault lay with BookDepository and Amazon. Fair enough, that might've been the case. I was getting really frustrated but what really pissed me off was when I insisted there was something that could be done, she had the gall to say "It's like that one. Even my card also the same thing." I was so pissed off I ended the call before I could blow up in public.

What kind of customer service is this? Beyond that, can anyone recommend a debit card that doesn't have this particular issue with international purchases like Amazon?

So far there are far less complaints with Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card. PBB D2D VISA debit card also earns you at least 0.3% cash back (0.8% for grocery and petrol).

Thanks for the response. Are there any particular processes I have to go through to enable online shopping? Can I link this card with Paypal?

Does anyone else think that my difficulties buying from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and BookDepository and other US sites with my Ambank Debit Mastercard has to do with these sites not using 3-D e commerce protection?

I tested a theory with Luxola.com and placed an item worth RM80 in my basket. I entered my card details, etc and I received a request for TAC code on my phone. I have never experienced this on the sites I mentioned. Could this be the reason my payment keeps getting declined?

Not that i am aware of. FYI, the retail purchase limit can be set to a maximum of RM10,000. I think the default daily retail purchase limit is only RM2,000. And yes, this Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card is a Paypal friendly card. You can definitely link it to your Paypal account.
By right it shouldn't be a problem unless AmBank explicitly state that their card can only be used at online stores that are using 3D Secure authentication system. Anyway, my advise is to get yourself a second debit card   smile.gif

Even if Ambank's policy was to limit online shopping to 3D secure authenticated retailers/stores, their staff had no clue why my transactions were being declined. This was a big turn off. Especially the attitude of that hotline staff member. shakehead.gif

As long as the debit card's Paypal friendly, I'm all aboard. Public Day2Day it is! Thanks so much! thumbup.gif

P.s How does this new policy at Maybank affect its new cardholders who use the cards at non-authenticated/3-D secured online stores? How would one act "fraudulently" if the card is theirs and they carried out transaction themselves? hmm.gif

Can anyone recommend a prepaid cashcard? I know Maybank, AEON, and AirAsia's Big. I want no fuss as possible and the ability to use overseasand online without any hassle. I'm currently using Ambank's debit card and that's been a total pain.
