unfortunately, my case was Public Bank. Minimum balance $20, sufficient to charge the annual fee and remain positive.

You don't have any "available credit balance" for debit card transaction or ATM withdrawal.
If you don't have any debit transaction in next 6/12 months (don't know which one) the savings account will go dormant and a fee will apply every xx months (the last charge is the remaining credit in your account). Eventually the account balance will be RM0.00 and account will be closed. If your account still have a credit balance after 7 years, the money will be transferred to Bank Negara.

Due to monthly fee / half-yearly fee of RM10, my EON Bank current account went into negative and got charged of Overdraft interest! 
(No Overdraft facility)

Guys i have a Maybank Savings Account-i and OCBC 360 account. I pay RM8 annual fees for both.

I called Maybank and they say I can walk in to any branch to change to a “free” version with limited withdrawals. I am okay with this.

However, OCBC says no such options exist. The best I can do is cancel the debit card entirely.

Are both the above true?

Also, I need to open RHB and CIMB savings account to service car and housing loans. Do both banks have a basic savings account with no annual fees?
