Well, there is always an alternative way to stay unlock with mango is to load ansar custom 7720 roms. Save all the time doing all those restoring...etc
My wife HD7 is loaded with 7720 ansar , just HSPL then custom rom now still stay unlock.
If warranty is not your main concern, can try this too.

Ha! not many dare to do. Too risky loosing the chevron.

sometin is not rite here, i suspect the chevron was not able to stay unlock once batter has removed not the simcard.

last night i remove my sim for another purpose unplugin my battery for about 2hours, once i power back all my time/date becomes 2010. could be this causing the chevron relock back. hmmp..

just like fulat said its not android,with WP7 you wont even have to worry about lag or hang. to check all apps running status just press hold the <--- (back button) will show you all running apps.

remember, once you've use BIG Screen 4.3 never go back to 3.8. like i did earlier HD 1st Gen then i want to try simple phone so i go for Nokia E66!! only took me 1day to regret.

why not, enabling the lockscreen " Show artist when playing music" so you could just on off then stop the music from the lockscreen.
