Hi guys,

I have tire problem here. I've bought Ford Fiesta 1.6S 2 months ago.
The tires are Continental CPC2.

Last week, the front right tire (driver side) is punctured because I hit a pothole.
The tire punctured on the side so I've to replace it with a new tire.

Today, the rear tire (driver side) is punctured also. 1 week after the first incident.
I didn't hit a big pothole like the first one, just a small hole.

When I ask the AAM guy who change my tire with a spare one, he says that Continental tires are good quality and comfort but very week at the side.

So if I hit a pothole or go over a road divider, it has a high risk of puncture of the side of the tires.
Is it true? Is there any other tire that is suitable for Fiesta, but at the same time, it's more durable?

Check the year of manufacturing on your tire. Car manufacturer used to buy in bulk which will last time many years. probably it began to get harder over the years. It is very dangerous to drive on old tires

some tires may have softer sidewall hence there are risk that the tires get punctured from the side to to impact from potholes. my Falken 912 has the same issue and planning to replace it with something else. got a bulge on the sides for hitting a deep pothole few months back. sad.gif

my conclusion is:

road condition + low quality tyre = accident.

u better change tyre. dont take the risk.

continental tires should be able to claim for warranty since your car is 2 months old.
I've claimed for all 4 of my tires (due to tyre bengkak) but need to pay a minimal sum.

I check my original tires (when I got the car).
Ironically, it was manufactured this year.
(DOT Y693 N1XF 1111) => 11 week of 2011.
(DOT Y693 N1XF 1611) => 16 week of 2011.

I still don't understand, why I got flat tyre too often.
2 tyres in one week, and I was like 'WTF'?
The first time i could understand because i was a deep pothole.
But the second time, as I mention above, couldnt possibly make a tyre puncture.

Is there any other brand that u guys can recommend for ford fiesta?

How do you claim? Through your car dealer?

I am using the same tire as you are, ContinentalPremiumContact 2...
I don't have such problem and have been using for around half year. Air pressure dropped around 10-20kpa each month.

Did you check your tire condition? is it fitted nicely? Got kena nail or not?

TS,
I dun use CPC2, but from my experience prematurely spoilt rubbers r usually:
- poor maintenance (under/over inflated, constant curbing, or harsh usage)
- tyre structure even when fairly new. eg. there's plenty of feeback on rather thin/soft tyre walls on some Falken tires although it could b a form of NVH supression feature.
- lemon units regardless of brand n model. N if ur lucky ur supplier/tire shop or SC may replace it FOC or wit a minimal fee.

But ur set seems to be rather new. Perhaps other CPC2 users can contribute?

How and where did you make your claim? Conti-Sime at Jalan Tandang there?
My mazda 3 2months+ old also tyre bengkak..tried to make claim but they gave me a lot of bull..i end up changing myself because I dont want to ride on a bulged tyre. Have been busy so havent really make any "action" on them. They claimed i hit a pothole and caused it, but i cant rmb and did tyre balancing which proven good. My view is that even if pothole, its a small one and should not have caused this. Looks like a weak tyre to be put on the road and deserve to be taken to KPNDDK?

Falken all have weak side walls... my Falken 265/70/16 4x4 tire has a side wall puncture recently. Luckily very small puncture and it is patchable.

Will never buy this brand ever again! Stick with cheaper Silverstone ones... cheap and good.

TS bad luck... mine change 4 times in a month previously...hahaha...

anyway, try to claim your tire through service centre. my vios changed all 4 tires (goodyear gd03) within 15k km.... normally tires did come with warranty from manufacturer... try to search your service manual.

if not change yourself a good quality 1, don't use cheap as ur life all depends on your four "rubber" when you driving... additional few hundred save your life...

my 2 cents... btw, what size of tire u using now?

If got hit pothole or curb the sidewall, will have damage on the tyre sidewall.
If there is no such sign of damage, insist that you have not don't anything wrong and insist they pay you for the claim.
But claim will depends on the tyre pattern balance, and they will measure the lowest part..... sad.gif

After 3 years the rubber compound will start to harden, after 4 years might as well change the tyres as the grip is not good already. That is why, if do not travel much, don't buy tyres for durability..... smile.gif

Underinflation also kills tyres cos not enough pressure to support the extra load on impact

below 5,000km if any problem with your tire if manufactural defect you can claim thru SC but 60,000km/6years below you must claim thru the tire company yourself with minimal fees due to your tire condition for continental at least..

I checked ur tyre size is 195/50/r16
Odd size... hmm.gif
U can try to get 205/50/r16 size or 205/55/r16,
Try search for the price... But 16 inch tyre not much choice... I suggest u downgrade to 15 inch rims n trade in ur current rims... U may get the looks u like, cheaper tyres, wide range to choose, n more performance as rims is lighter....
My experiences... blush.gif

I don't think so it would void ur warranty... Anyway, it is up to ur choice again...
