QUOTE(soonwai @ Nov 29 2015, 02:40 AM) Just got my Unifi 30mb activated. RB2011UAS. Speedtest from dining room, middle of the house downstairs,. Router is located at the back room upstairs next to the back window. Distance about 25 feet diagonally through floor and walls. House is 20x67 terrace intermediate. Not too bad, I guess. Hopefully it'll give you an idea of the Mikrotik's wifi performance but if you're living in a mansion then all bets are off. :-) if mikrotik got 5ghz... i already bought..![]() Dining Room And a few more tests. ![]() Living Room (Sitting on sofa, it's faster if I stand up) ![]() At the gate outside the house. Haven't speedtested upstairs but the worst is the front toilet which has 3 walls between the router and where I sit. :-) Surrounded by wifi. Back of the house is not the best place to locate an access point. The -54 is my neighbour's router which is practically right next to my router but on the ground floor. ![]() |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 2 2015, 02:58 PM) Guys, I'm thinking of adding 5Ghz wifi. What do you think are the best options for Access Points? i been using dlink dap 1665(as repeater) for 2 week now.. no complaintI guess my requirements would be: 1) Not too pricey. Say budget RM300. 2) 5Ghz (doesn't have to be dual-band) 3) AC preferred but at least N 4) GB Ethernet So far, I've found: DLink DAP-1655: around 280, fulfills all my reqs. Xiaomi Mini Router: around 110, so cheap! Biggest con is it only has 100mb Ethernet. Mikrotik/UBNT: not sure what's available locally. Gemfive got promotion now 30% if purchace rm300 above http://www.gemfive.com.my/electronics/cons...nd-access-point for ubiquiti they have new access point UNIFI ap ac lite rm450+- look more premium product https://www.ubnt.com/unifi/unifi-ap-ac-lite/ |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 3 2015, 01:22 AM) Thanks very much man, made the purchase. Never heard of Gemfive before this. Came up to about RM200 after the discount. Awesome deal. The cheapest I could get from LYP was RM260. TT on me if we ever meet-up IRL. commercial product I also asked about the UAP-AC-Lite, MX510 here quoted me RM510+GST. Where did you find it for 450+? Landasan.com.my has the Groove or GrooveA 52HPn for RM400 but it's not AC. Hopefully Mikrotik will come up with cheap cAP 5N. The cAP 2N is only USD50. http://www.uwave.com.my/ they quote me unifi ap ac lite rm 425 |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 6 2015, 04:26 AM) Configured my new DLink DAP-1665 for 5GHz N & AC and added it to my home network. working well so far. It's at the opposite end of my RB2011UAS-2HnD so the whole house should be well covered now. Some quick tests giving me about 250mbps from iPhone 6S to my Mac. you set dap 1665 as repeater or access point?mine set as repeater, speed test from repeater manage to get 28 to 29 mbps (5ghz) at dining before that not even get signal.. |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Jan 18 2016, 02:53 AM) Setting up a Mikrotik router for UniFi is now a lot easier with Quick Set. So here's a little step-by-step. need to appreciate this guy... you take you own time to make other people love mikrotik...Connect to the router First, connect to the router using either a web browser or winbox.exe (http://www.mikrotik.com/download) *winbox is a Windows app to configure your Mikrotik router. **The screenshots here are from winbox. Web browser looks similar. You'll figure it out. ***This assumes a router with default configuration. This is very important. It it's not, you can reset the router to defaults before starting. ****Do not reset to defaults if your RouterOS is version 6.33.5. (Imagine a screenshot of your browser's address bar or the winbox login screen) Connect to the router Default IP address: 192.168.88.1 Username: admin Password: (no password) <-- I mean there's no password defined and not that the password is (no password). ![]() Quick Set 1) Click on Quick Set ![]() Set as Home AP and enter UniFi username & password 1) Select Home AP 2) Select PPPoE 3) Enter UniFi username and password 4) OK *Once everything is working, come back here to set your wifi to a cooler name and give it a password. ![]() VLAN 1) Click Interfaces 2) Click VLAN 3) Create a new VLAN 4) Give it a name e.g.: vlan500 (I like daytona500) 5) Set VLAN ID: 500 6) Ensure Interface is: ether1-gateway 7) OK ![]() PPPoE 1) Click PPP 2) Double-click pppoe-out1 3) Set Interfaces to vlan500 (or the name you gave it in VLAN Step 4) 4) OK That's it. Internet should be be working now. Sorry, no HyppTV yet. Here's a clue HyppTV is vlan 600 should have fee for your afford ... |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Jan 18 2016, 09:18 PM) Thanks, what can I say? I've never had so much fun with a router. And most, if not all, of the guides out there for UniFi were written before Quick Set. Don't get me wrong though, doing everything by hand is also good. Forces you to learn about the router but few will appreciate that. They'd probably just dump the Mikrotik and buy an Asus. but... you cannot buy knowledge I recommend Mikrotik to my friends & relatives and most of them are using it now. I estimate at least 10 already. The biggest installation consist of 5 routers (1 router/AP + 2 WDS Repeaters & 2 more for a HyppTV WiFi Bridge). LOL, took me a week of trial & error but it was fun. And you, Khalid21, thanks to you too. If you remember, you recommended gemfive to me for the DLink DAP-1665. You saved me RM80-90. |
