I'm facing some odd issues with my RB750Gr3 - have only had it for a week and it's linked up to my Time Fibre 500mbps line and my Asus AC68U 'access point'.

Simple config really - no QOS, no VLAN, fasttrack on, about 15 clients.

Streaming in Kodi/Exodus tends to stutter and scrubbing ahead or back in the video results in 10-20 secs of buffering.

When I put back my ER-X, all is good again. Hope someone's experienced this before and can share some tips. It's probably something I misconfigured but am kinda new to RouterOS so there.
*
Try turning off FastTrack and see if that helps. Mikrotik's FastTrack does weird things some times.

Are the problems occurring on wifi or cable?

Am going to implement Unifi 100 mbps + Mikrotik + Ligo AP

What this Mikrotik router will do is to segregate the follwing:

20 mbps to firewall Wan 2
30 mbps to room 1
20 mbps to room 2
20 mbps to room 3
10 mbps to room 4

..can't wait to see the results, but config done by TM. Hope to gain something from it.  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

TM is going to configure the Mikrotik? Interesting.

Export and share their configuration here for peer review.

Hi Sifus..

Can't wait for management to sign off this project. It is also my first time exposure to Mikrotik. They have budled as:

Unifi 100mbps
Mikrotik Router RB 3011
Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band ( 2.4Ghz & 5.0Ghz ) a/b/g/n/ac

flex.gif
*
Very nice! RB3011 is way overkill for 100mbps. I suppose it depends on what you're doing with it. It's got 1GB of RAM. Hope you don't get charged too much for it. But I guess it's ok, future-proof.

Interesting to know that TM is using Mikrotik.

Hi soonwai,

I proposed the Account manager to follow the requirements stated below:

*Bare in mind we have Fortigate Firwall 111c in mind too.

100 mbps will be split by Mikrotik to the following:

20 mbps to Firewall wan 2 (Backup line) incase wan 1 down.
30 mbps to room 1 (Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band)
20 mbps to room 2 (Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band)
10 mbps to room 3 (Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band)
10 mbps to room 4 (Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band)
10 mbps to room 5 (Ligo NFT 2AC Dual Band)

Not sure what the outcome will be, but i hope this configuration's are archivable. Saw your post in regards to replace Ligo AP with Mikrotik's AP instead, will try to repropose too. Will update time to time about this project.

Is the Fortigate or the RB3011 doing the routing? Need your network diagram. Anyway since you have Fortigate, so the Mikrotik not doing any firewall duties, so really RB3011 is overkill for this. Wouldn't hurt but you can save some money by going for a cheaper Mikrotik.

You can also ask them to implement the backup wan2 and the firewall in the RB3011 and not use the Fortigate. More work on their part though. I mean it's easier to just get a Fortigate but it's actually all doable on a single RB3011.

unifi coming soon, i might change to mikrotik

hows the performance for wifi? is it better compare to most consumer grade routers out there? i see it doesnt have antenna, signal should be good enough right ?

I choose mikrotik, really need more control over network traffic
*
Router wise, it's a no-brainer for its features. The RM130 router can do the same as the RM2k one. Subject to cpu & ram, of course.

But wifi is just above average. Mikrotik APs are fairly basic. They don't have the latest features nor the highest ACxxxx rating.

Off the top of my head, here're are a few good & bad.
- power is already at maximum 1w for the 2H and 5H models so that's good. Though sometimes it's better to have multiple lower powered APs.
- antennas are mostly 2dBi (RB941x, RB951x) so won't go that far on the horizontal plane (same floor). I'm using RB2011 which is 4dBi so that's better.
- internal antennas are not a problem. Rated sensitivity seems quite high.
- No 802.11k, 802.11r, and 802.11v for faster AP transitions. Only matters if you have more than one AP and if your device supports them. Asus already has some of this under fancier names.
- CAPsMAN or Centralised AP Management is really really good if you have multiple APs.
- Other than the RB2011, they are quite inconspicuous.

This one will take 8-30VDC so try any compatible PSU that you may have around the house.

1 of the thing I like about Mikrotik RouterBoards is they can be powered by the common 12v 5.5mm power supply that usually used for external desktop hdd, router/modem or cctv. Most also can be powered using usb to 5.5mm 12v DC step up. Pretty handy.
*
Yes indeed. Also laptop PSUs, 10-20V also works great provided the jack fits.

Hi all,

I was previously a Mikrotik user using RB250GS in the early days if Unifi but stopped using it once normal routers started having Unifi support. I'm now back with a hAP ac lite. It was challenging but I managed to set it up for Unifi after following several different guides.

I'm now stuck on IPv6 setup. I've followed klseet's guide (https://klseet.com/5-tm-unifi/unifi-general/258-unifi-ipv6) and also cross referenced with rizvanrp's guide (https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2978208&st=180&p=63945436&#entry63945436) and I can get a /64 from TM but either Windows don't get an IPv6 address or it gets one but IPv6 websites doesn't work. I'm on RouterOS 6.40.4. I've attached screenshot from my IPv6 windows. I hope some master can have a look and see what I'm doing wrong. Thank you.
...

Can you post a /export?

rclxms.gif  Finally I managed to get Mikrotik RB951G-2Hnd(My backup unit) + Huawei E8372 to work.  rclxms.gif
Next is to move thess set of settings to my production unit Mikrotik wAP AC which has TmNut Stimx 4Mb connected.

Fore those that want to setup this combinations kindly follow the settings in the below screen shot. Btw, I'm using Rouster OS 6.41rc44 and passthrough seems not working.

hi guys.. pretty noob to networking.. whats the major advantage of these enterprise routers from mikrotik as compared to consumer grade routers like ASUS ?
*
Enterprise routers have enterprise features and enterprise pricing.
Mikrotik routers have enterprise features and consumer pricing.

Asus hmm no comment. Personally I just avoid them. I think they are not worth it.
*Disclaimer: I had the RT-N12HP now sold to my neighbour and an RT-N16.

Happy New Year guys. Just gone for a week and suddenly a few more new Mikrotik users. Hope you guys are enjoying the new toys. I also just setup my RB750Gr3. Got it last month but never did find the time to hook it up till now.

Make sure you’re on the latest v6.41 before tinkering with ROS further as that has major changes to Ethernet, bridges and ports. No more master/slave ports. I’ll have to update the guide for this.

RouterOS 6.41 released in Dec has a new bridge implementation. One of the consequence of that is that there are no more master/slave ethernet configs. When upgrading to 6.41, sometimes the conversion gets screwed up leaving you with a non-working bridge. So for those who upgrading now, you might want to go straight to 6.42rc5.

3/1/2018 Version 6.42rc5 has been released.
CODE
Changes since previous release:
*) bridge - fixed bridge related settings conversation during upgrade from pre-v6.41 bridge implementation (introduced v6.41);
*) bridge - properly update "actual-mtu" after MTU value changes (introduced v6.41);
*) capsman - improved CAPsMAN responsiveness on systems with large amount of CAP interfaces;
*) detnet - additional work on "detect-internet" implementation;
*) detnet - fixed "detect-internet" feature unavailability if router had too long identity (introduced v6.41);
*) discovery - fixed discovery related settings conversation during upgrade from pre-v6.41 discovery implementation (introduced v6.41);
*) firewall - fixed "tls-host" firewall matcher (introduced v6.41);
*) ike1 - display error message when peer requests "mode-config" when it is not configured;
*) ike1 - fixed "aes-ctr" and "aes-gcm" encryption algorithms (introduced v6.41);
*) ike2 - improve half-open connection handling;
*) interface - improved interface configuration responsiveness;
*) log - properly report bridge interface MAC address changes;
*) poe-out - do not show "poe-out-current" on devices which can not determine it;
*) rb1100ahx4 - fixed reset button responsiveness when regular firmware is used;
*) ssh - improved key import error messages;
*) tile - added "aes-ctr" hardware acceleration support;
*) tr069-client - fixed HTTPS authentication process;
*) wireless - fixed nv2 protocol on ARM platform SXTsq devices;
*) wireless - improved wireless scan functionality for devices with multiple wireless interfaces;

Got apa interesting tweaks? hmm.gif

Haven't really played with it much but I really like the new bridge implementation especially when working with vlans. It's much more intuitive, to me anyway.
