Gist of the jailbreak 5.0.1 untether

1. If you are not on 5.0.1, upgrade to 5.0.1 and jailbreak untethered using the latest redsnow.
2. If you are already on 5.0.1 and are currently on tethered jailbreak.  you have 2 choices, rejailbreak using the latest redsnow or the easiest being to download And install Corono Untether 5.0.1 from Cydia.
3. If you are on 5.0.1 but have not jailbreak the phone, run redsnow.
4. If you have semi-tether installed, uninstall it. You can do that before or after installing corona. I did it after installing corona and the iPhone will respring.
5. If after installing corona, you have an issue (hang etc) either respring or do a hard reboot of the iPhone. Should clear all the trash from the cydia installation or uninstallation.

Hope that helps. Enjoy the untether jb from pod2g.

You need to be super careful since yours is a locked US set. Don't simply upgrade to 5.0.1 . You need to create a custom 5.0.1 firmware and preserve your baseband. Go to iClarified and find the correct tutorial to create the custom firmware.

mine is not US set ..i buy from maxis ..
i duno what i did last time sddenly it become locked set..it can't detect my sim .but it works now. after repaired, then my home button prob change to maxis..they give a phone that is 4.3.3..i went to jailbreakme to jailbreak..now i dunno how
hurm..seriuosly i have no idea what u say..

i tried searching on google n youtube about upgrading 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 unthethered

all i can find is they already on 5.0.1

ok .so is it like this
im using iphone 4 maxis 4.3.3 unthethered jailbreak

1) restore to 5.0.1 (using this -- > http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=18932, or just download 5.0.1 firmware and restore it using itunes ??)
2) download redsnow and jailbreak

sorry most of the tutorial i found is they already on 5.0.1

If yours is a Maxis set, then a stock upgrade will ensure that it is factory unlocked again. Do a stock upgrade (using iTunes or by downloading the official 5.0.1 firmware) and you should be able to get the factory unlock.

After the stock upgrade. Test by inserting different sim card from different operator (Digi, maxis etc). Once you confirm that it can use those simcard, you are now ready to jailbreak untether.

ok..so i just connect my iphone 4 to itunes and press update ???
then my 4.3.3 jailbreak will be gone right ?
but itunes will keep all the data saved right ??

then after update, should i click restore to get all those things back ?

You do not need to preserve baseband since your iPhone is a maxis set. Something must has gone wrong before. This is my suggestion

1. Upgrade to stock 5.0.1 firmware. Either via iTunes (slow and may et connection error because the file is huge) or by downloading the stock 5.0.1 IPSW file directly (Google "Where to download iPhone firmware iClarified") and you will get the right page with all the links. Make sure you download the correct firmware version for your iPhone. Once the file has been downloaded, you can just press Shift + Restore and point it to your 5.0.1 IPSW file ( you do this in iTunes by the way)

2. Once your stock upgrade is complete, test your iPhone with different operator simcard to confirm that the iPhone is back to it's factory unlock like its supposed to.

3. Once that is confirmed, you can run the jailbreak.

Before you proceed, can you tell me what is your current baseband?
*
im not sure can u tell me what should i find in settings ?
is it that modem firmware.?
its 04.10.01 - modem firmware

That is the correct one. You're already on a baseband that cannot be unlocked by ultrasn0w and if you currently can use different operator simcard, then your phone is factory unlocked. I suspect when you tried to jailbreak it before, something went wrong somewhere. You should be able to do based on my suggestion (use stock 5.0.1 firmware)

i can use maxis simcard..i guess it will work too with others mlsyain simcard..
btw im confused here..
i should download iphone 4 gsm right ?

i wanted to download from this link -- > http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

there

5.0.1 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
5.0.1 (4 CDMA): iPhone3,3_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
5.0.1 (4S): iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
5.0.1 (4S) [9A406]: iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw

5.0.1 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw -- this should be the correct one right ?
just for confirmation .. i think the failed one that i did was downlading the wrong fimrware i think

I bought my BiteSMS from the BigBoss repo for USD9.99, I cannot live without the Quick Reply.

You can also get BiteSMS for free from BigBoss but it will be the add supported version which is not too bad.
*
i had bite sms last time but it looks the same just got quick reply and smiley if im not mistaken .. just that??

and imessage combine with normal sms is quite annoying..how to know whether my friend got imsj or not ? cant it detect scan from phonebook like whatsapp?

You can activate the Quick Compose from the touch of the volume buttons but I disable it because I used the volume buttons for different things.

You can identify which is normal SMS and which is iMessage from the colors. If you're out of internet coverage, it will send it via normal SMS

I like Viber/Whatsapp as compared to iMessage as it is multi-platform and it is able to scan my phonebook to know who is on Viber etc etc, I use iMessage baces one of my friend who has an iDevice on iOS5 sent me an iMessage. For all other "internet" messaging system, I usually use Viber/Whatsapp.
*
yes thats what i mean exactly.i know that if imessage the msj is blue in colour.but how do u know whether yr friends have imesage or not?
1st u need their email (apple id) im sure most ppl here doesnt save their friends email on contacts and its not like whatsapp where u just scan yr contacts and u can see who have a whatsapp. compared imsj to bbm or whatsapp i think imsj is the worst bcause bbm u need their bb pin so its working like whatsapp u can view who got bbm/whatsapp while imsj dont. cant believe apple would do this bcause their apps is superb except for this one. i think they should seperate normal sms and imsj app and also not using email bcause its long..

anyway i do experience bit laginess on ios 5.0.1 when type(not using any theme except barrel)and wifi suddenly off if use fb, 4square..
i need to use safari for few mins after on wifi then i can use fb and foursquare dunno its my modem or my iphone
