i see ~ studying in japan costs a bomb. money is a big problem sad.gif

Hmm....true, but we are talking about japan here, that is the first thing u must solve la...but like I`ve been saying, its not impossible la BUT u must be willing to work hard that`s all...if u work part time, it can help support ur expenses in japan wan....so if u really like japan and is seriously thinking of studying there this is something u have to live with la.

But think abt it la :~

1) U gain an extra language
2) Carrying a japanese university name will help u when u apply for jobs
3) Chances of working in Japan is higher ofcourse, especially when u graduate from a university there.
4) Get to take your own sweet time exploring Japan. Not to mention, to all manga, anime, japanese idols(johnny`s entertainment) and electronics freakz out there...this is ur place!

And lots of other good points la. To me, its a good investment la. Spending money for studying what.

guess i got not much choice left huh biggrin.gif

i've got few questions here ~
1)when is the next intake? depend on which japan uni?
2)approximately how much money do i need to use to enter japan and then enter their university? (i'm aiming for business course as my science sucks >< )
besides, i dont think i'll get a loan from jpa or get a scholarship since my spm result is just 'moderate' only ~ and yeah.if there's a part time job i dont mind sacrificing my time to work to gain some expenses to survive ~
oh ya, if u're providing me with money information.. mind if u convert from japan into malaysia money by using arrow? thanks ^^

Hey student91! Sorry for the late reply ya...I just arrived at Tokyo this morning so yea, jetlag a bit so been sleeping hehe. ok here goes :~

1) All universities in Japan starts in April, october intake oso got but mostly starts in April. I suggest u enter the october intake for the Japanese language schools...i can help recommend u to my japanese language school in Tokyo if u want. The next intake is this coming October. Very soon tho tongue.gif:p

2) Ok first u have to enter the language school for 1 year or 1 and 1/2 years its up to u. If u enter the language school in October, you`ll be entering for 1 and 1/2 years, if next year April, 1 year. that`s how it works. The language school cost about rm35K (around 1,200,000yen) for 1 and 1/2 years in my case last time. Shouldn`t have any changes but i`ll try to check for u if u want. As for monthly cost of living I`d say u need around rm4k(about 100,000yen) per month is more than enough for everything, rent, food and other expenses but when u just arrived nanti u might need a bit more la coz u baru nak start buy stuff for ur dorm etc etc...

3) I`m glad u`Re willing to work part time coz the part time jobs here pay A LOT! So when u dah keje nanti, ur parents may not need to send u money pon tongue.gif The cheapest salary for part time jobs in japan is 850yen/hour. won`t get less than that so let`s say u work 4 hours a day 5 times a week a month u`ll get around 68,000yen (around rm2.7k) for example la...most people gain more! I teach u something good....u work part time here kutip sampah...my friend got around 200000yen (around rm8k) in 1 month just doing that!

Should be fine la I think...janji kene rajin sikit la tongue.gif:p smile.gif) I hope this answers ur question smile.gif) Let me know what u think!

hi...good thread here...been searching for help actually.
i'm planning to take master in japan. food science/quality/sustainability or anything related to food. any recommendation for which university? from the net, not many universities in japan offer food-related course. or maybe because i only searched among the top 30 uni there. seriously, going through wiki and see all the uni list...God,japan has sooooo many universities!!

for master course, do i need to take the 1 1/2 yrs of japanese language class? i can understand the language quite fair i guess (thanks to arashi oh i mean...japan entertainment:p) but no with the writing & reading.

if i want to apply for scholarship, what need to do first? in my understanding i need to search for uni, get prof, confirm placement in uni then apply for scholarship. or any other way?

is it hard to go there empty handed?i mean if i already get and confirm my placement in uni, i just go to japan then i started to apply for scholarship...how?because i don't think i can ask for money from my parents...

need help here because i really really want to go to japan sooo bad...aiming for april intake but dunno if i can get placement before that.

cku87san!!

Omatase shimashita hehe Sorry for the late reply..had to clean up the house...now in Japan no more mommy!! OMG ARASHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You and I, we speak the same language! I totally understand how u feel (welcome to my world LOL) Sakurai sho! Muaxxx \(^-^)/

1) Ok so u want recommendation for best uni for any courses related to food. There`s a course listing book here where they list all the universities based on courses but I don`t have the book with me right now, so I`ll get to u on that ok? Will send u the list later while asking around...my japanese friends might know of these things.

2)Next is japanese language. Ok this depends. If u decide to take it in english then, you don`t need to take the course. But if u wanna do it in Japanese, u just have to coz they wanna see ur level of Japanese. So u need to pass atleast level 2 of the japanese language proficiency.

3) Scholarships. Just try to apply before you go to Japan (Monbukagakusho scholarship can be taken in english) but yes, its true that u need to find a professor to get a placement in a university for grad school. Either way, just try to apply before u go..that way is better right but otherwise, later in Japan also there`ll lots of scholarships around no worries.

4) Empty handed ka...hmmm Muri kana...unless u already got a scholarship before u go I guess that`s pretty much impossible. Because scholarships also u apply, doesn`t necessarily dapat terus. It`s risky la to me. Atleast don`t go empty handed la...bring some savings just incase. If u`re thinking of finding baito first while applying for scholarship also it will take time...because u need a working permit for students here..to get the working permit alone will take around 2-3weeks...atleast the first 3 months tu prepare some. thumbup.gif

Anyway, I understand ur feeling of wanting to come here sooo badly! I was like u too!! I used to like NEWS! OMG YAMAPI marry me! Ok somebody stop meh or else I`ll go on and on and on. Anyway....I really hope u can come coz u really want to! I`ll get the info for unis and will get back to u o(^-^)o icon_rolleyes.gif

So, how much money did you bring/reserve to Japan? And how long until you yourself was able to get a baito?

is japan a good place for backpackers?=)
*
Hey there...been a while huh...I`m back in Japan now and has been asking ard for u...Ok most of my friends` friends stayed in Yadoya Guest House...for it is CHEAP, has a Strategic location and for it being very comfortable! Others recommended the capsule hotel (i tried it too blush.gif unsure.gif whistling.gif ) Urm I don`t really like it though...Felt a bit claustrophobic in there ugh! But I don`t know what are ur preferences...mind telling me ur budget, what kind of rooms u like (single or u don`t mind dorm) although most backpackers I know they go for the cheapest and only the cheapest but who knows la kan...diff people diff. Let me know what u think.

If it helps...I found these webbies useful.

http://www.hostelworld.com/search?search_k...pan&city=Tokyo&

http://backpacker.ninja-x.jp/

http://www.sakura-hostel.co.jp/

U might have gone thru these webbies but just in case yah. Will still ask ard for better options.

Owh I still remember the first amount I brought to Japan, it was around 500,000yen( ard rm20k now but then, the currency rate exchange was cheaper so at that time ard rm15k. Lots of difference kan?) 350,000yen for my school fees and the 150,000yen for my expenses there...but because I bought so many things for my dorm and other things like cellphones electronics...fridge blablabla...just arrived la kan...so, used up quite a lot so it last around 3 weeks jer like that (after that called for mommy and daddy`s rescue d)...but 2 months after I got to Japan which is a month after I got my working permit jer...I straight away found a baito at a malaysian restaurant...and got around 110,000yen/month for my salary. So after that my life was pretty good...plus since the rate wasn`t so high at the time( 100yen=rm3-rm3.20 jer) with my monthly salary alone pon dah more than enough (as the matter of fact, i was quite lavish) samore...my school provides dorms for us where we pay a fixed amount of rent every month and the utilities are ALL-U-CAN-USE! So my rent was 47,000yen that was all I had to pay and I don`t have to worry about electricity, Water, Gas Etc Etc...all is included in the rent...So 110,000-47000 = I always had 63000yen to enjoy... icon_rolleyes.gif rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif but this was then la...now rate is high i understand if everyone feels reluctant abt studying here blush.gif I oso kalau x baito, wallet sakit huhu wink.gif

Hi there Farizmon! Thanks for posting (^-^)

Degree in software engineering wow sounds cool! Ok I can help u find the list of universities offering the course u want but as I mentioned to miss cku87 above...I have to borrow the book listing all the universities by courses and rankings ;p;p

For degree courses I have a list of universities offering courses in fully English. You can check them out at this website here ---->> http://www.studyinjapan.org.my/04_study/04...dy3a_step0.html
As to whether you need to enroll in a japanese language school or not, that varies according to universities but for degree courses most of the time the answer is YES, u need to enroll in one coz universities in Japan always prefer you to have atleast basic japanese language skills. But we can check yah...no worries.

So next is loan! Yes, JPA, MARA, PTPTN are my recommendations! I applied for JPA loan...the results will come out this friday... unsure.gif hopefully I pass la! (Prays) PTPTN I`ve never tried coz last time I heard they only offer to those studying in local uni but recently found out that they offer for foreign universities as well. I shall find out for u coz I pon if I ended up not getting JPA one then i`m gonna try PTPTN pulak. And lastly MARA! Try try try!!

Nice!! As I`ve mentioned many times in this thread... For private students who wants to study in japan, kene rajen sikit! have to work a bit la! But trust me, its worth it la if you really think about it.

Hmmm if you can consider homestay programs yes, but if you were thinking of just simply going there only then you find accommodation/lodgings you need to atleast have a friend to invite you from there. Because in case you don`t know, to travel to Japan you need an invitation letter to go there if you have a friend or relatives there. Or else, you have to book a hotel in advance from Malaysia. And you have a to have atleast rm7k in your bank account to apply for visa. They wanna make sure you have accommodation and enough money to survive while you`re there. So far, have not heard of hostels for backpackers...hmm I`ll try find out for you ok? Gimme some time yah tongue.gif:p

Kyoto University! Wow! Good choice here! Ok, I have a friend who will be studying in Kyoto University as an exchange student this October. But she is currently studying in UM. So UM is sending her to Kyoto U for a year. This friend of mine also has no background of Japanese but its an exchange program so I`m not sure how it works really,

Ok to really answer your question, for undergrad courses, as far as i know, No. But for mastersdegree or phd YES! Coz I read about it last time! Plus, I had a senior doing his PHD in Kyoto U in English last time!

So it depends really, undergrad or grad school tongue.gif:p But universities like Waseda, Sophia, Asia, Hosei offers a few of undergrad degree courses in English! BUT very limited la...hmmm but japan is now training their youngsters to master english...so i`m not surprise if in the future there are more courses in English! keep praying yeah!  icon_rolleyes.gif

Where did you find out that PTPTN offers loans for students studying overseas? They've always stated that the only provide loans for courses done within Malaysia.

Even in the next question there, for people doing twinning programmes they will only provide a loan while doing it in the country and stop when transferring overseas.

There's no mention anywhere at all about them giving any kind of loans for anybody studying overseas.

Thank u thank u thank u! I want the loan, I mean who doesn't duh hehe rolleyes.gif

Ok I recommend my japanese language school. My time in Japanese language school was the best time I`ve ever had in Japan! My school is called Asian Cultural Association Japanese Language Institute, shorten to ABK (Asia Bunka Kaikan).
You`ll meet lots of Asians from other countries like Korea, Thai, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Myanmar, India etc etc and of course Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

Here is the website to help guide u to everything :~
Don`t worry its in English. Scroll down the website abit and click guide for admission. There it`ll teach u step-by-step on how to apply. Ofcourse U can ask me if u don't understand some things. thumbup.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Oops...good luck with your parents! Have u told them abt your plan to study here tho?! unsure.gif

Hello hello! From bank as in banks like CIMB, Maybank all is it? I don`t take loans from banks at all actually...Was thinking of it and the banks can really give u up to RM250,000 maximum loan. But to pay back...they only give you like 10-15years maximum time to repay the loan you've applied. Let's say u borrow RM 100K when u grad and start working you have to pay back the loan in 10 years...that will need u to pay around RM833 per month..Ouch! blink.gif
