Friction happens when contractor cannot deliver as promised, or delay your time, or cannot agree on what you ask them to do, or irresponsible, or try to squeeze everything start to charge u $$ for every single thing.

So, when you stop/terminate your contractor, how to settle? Some contractors turn into gangsters and insist you pay them or let them finish the job despite your lost of confidence in them.

Some kontractor act tough oni, shout at them & say 'i also know some ppl' *fierce expression* & they will stop & think. Just business, no one would wan to get involved in criminal act & mess up their lives. Police report, laminate it, hang it where yr kontraktor can see, that is if kontraktor is unreasonable & joda's way did not help.

From what I hear, if u have a disagreement with your current contractor and terminate their service, a new contractor would be unwilling to continue where your old contractor left off.

This is how contractors protect their business and their industry. Not sure how true this is though as I've never faced this situation personally.

adrianjc, perhaps u think a bit too much la..sure someone will continue..want to protect what le? they dont know each other oso. running business all they wanna do is earn some living, and all we owners want is u live up to ur promises and not give us unreasonable works, that's all.

zheilwane, if they got 3-4 parang want 100k i oso wont give them coz i oso don't have how to give? tongue.gif

so moral of the story from renovations is: don't buttock itchy suka-suka renovate, end up waste time, waste money, lots of headache and also tempers might fly. Better buy renovated unit if price ok, design can accept and if one really don't have so much cash, time and money to go play play whistling.gif

The world is small, I won't be surprise. Many contractor know each other.

Is all about managing smile.gif and setting the correct expectation.. I learn something. If you want 10, you tell you contractor you need 12, if you luck he may give you 9.5.

phoenix69, if they dont take up this job, they take up other job, is there guarantee they wont meet even worse ppl...doubt that lo..

coldman86, u seem to be gloating over other ppl's mistakes which is not so nice. imho, i dont think use id with letter and everything guarantee anything at all. my neighbour use id to do whole house cabinets 50k, already paid 20k, already 4 months also didnt finish. Just for cabinets! she also had to terminate, so it really depends on how responsible the contractor/id is. like my lawyer says, u can have 100 pages of legal paperwork , at the end of the day paper is paper, action is action.

by the way, this thread is for ppl to share their experiences on how to settle the disagreement..so far nobody has posted any real life events.

Sounds scary. sweat.gif I think it's better to get reputable and recommended contractor from friends. Those who has renovated your friend's house and u have seen it.
