Some kontractor act tough oni, shout at them & say 'i also know some ppl' *fierce expression* & they will stop & think. Just business, no one would wan to get involved in criminal act & mess up their lives. Police report, laminate it, hang it where yr kontraktor can see, that is if kontraktor is unreasonable & joda's way did not help.

My experience nearly same, except i allowed him to con't, but he did a not so good job intentionally/unintentionally i duno. So i think u did it right, boot out unreliable kontraktor who won't listen to the BOSS & get someone who pleases the customer & not worry whether he will sabotage the property.
