depends on what colour. if it's dark brown probably no problem. If it's bright red then ... depends on what field you are in too, if you're in like advertising or some other creative industry this might even be a plus instead.

Since you mentioned that you have an engineering qualification, I presume that you will be going for an engineering job. Thus you should present yourself as a professional.
If your hair is dyed in some colour other than the black shades, do consider changing them. Try to present yourself professionally for the interview. Your appearance counts. |

^^^ Whadya mean you went like that *BUT* still got the job???
What you see here is the most awesome style ever! Anyone with any sense at all would immediately see that. Trust me TS, do something like I showed you. You'll never reach that level of awesome, but you'll approach it and the interviewer will totally fall in love with you. They'll demand that you start immediately! |

Coloured hair, long fringe. Sounds like the chap who sells pirated dvds at pasar malam.
Would you hire someone who looks like you? Be honest. Later on, there will be people coming into this thread being all self righteous about not being superficial and focusing on your abilities bla bla. They ignore the psychological reality that many interviewers make their decisions on first impressions and only change them if confronted by a very significant offset... eg. very uncommon background or talent etc. So, are you very uncommonly educated, related (to other people) or talented? And sometimes surviving amongst a pool of candidates, especially homogenous ones, is as much about not having obvious disadvantages as it is about having obvious advantages. If it happens that your profile is tied neck to neck with another candidate, you have unnecessarily provided them with a bullet to shoot you down with. I've been on long hair since I left school. No problem in getting a decent job and getting promoted aging and again. didnt see any problem with that. probably mine is an American company and they value the individual rights?

It does not matter whether your hair is colored, highlighted, long, or short, etc... (If you have bed-messy short hair or spiky hair, then it is still objectionable..)
Ultimately, make sure your hair looks neat, "presentable", and (or) professional regardless. If your hair is long, then keep it tied back neatly & professionally. (If your hair is short, then you will have to use all those gel products to try to make it look neater no matter what.) If your hair is colored or highlighted, then make sure that it has been done really properly/professionally. (Without being too obtrusive. flashy, "loud", and or objectionable). My 2 cents. Regards. |

Hence, I hire Sales Engineer. I would not hire you unless your hair is short and dyed black. As a sales engineer, you will be shown in front of customer. So, do you THINK that you are PRESENTABLE at your current state?? Will people buy from you?? Or, they think that you are trying to sell them pirated DVD in a pasar malam?? Dreamer |

QUOTE(dreamer101 @ Sep 5 2011, 01:10 AM) homeboy190, That would also be one of the issues too (for TS); for your type of job/role.I used to be a sales manager. Dreamer If your job type requires you to deal with customers face to face (e.g. customer service, company representative, sales, and such...); then the company will tend to be more particular about your appearance, outlook, dress code, attire, and such... However, it would be a completely different story; if your job type requires you to sit at the back of the office, in a room facing the computer, and never really getting to meet clients. (Then they won't care about your hair, and perhaps your dress-code/attire would not matter as well... There are quite a number of those in the technical line sporting long hair (for example); (being engineers/technicians/I.T. experts), and it was never an issue. (However, I am not really quite sure about TS's type of "emo hairstyle" with high-color dye... But you can try your luck... Regards. This post has been edited by Benjamin911: Sep 5 2011, 01:37 AM |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Sep 4 2011, 11:56 AM) depends on what colour. if it's dark brown probably no problem. If it's bright red then ... depends on what field you are in too, if you're in like advertising or some other creative industry this might even be a plus instead. Regarding creative industry/line;It is strange that girls in the design industry tend to have their hair cropped very short, or even completely shaved altogether... However, if the office/company can employ girls with short hair/shaved heads, but ban/reject guys with long hair, then such a company would certainly be best avoided at all cost. (Not just because of "hair" alone, but for other more serious reasons.) Think about the boss that rejects a guy because he has long hair, or demands that the long hair be cut short; Do you think that you would want to work under such a boss in general (even short hair guys)? Because it is certainly not so much about the "long hair" issue over here, instead, it is definitely about something far more worse; it is about the "type" of boss/company that you will be working under! (This is a very big hint about the negative aspects of the boss/company; that one will be experiencing in that company, regardless of hair length; that will stab one very hard in the back once they are working there; regardless of long hair or not!) In general, this speaks about the type of attitude, character, & mentality that the particular company/boss is having in general; so be-careful... Just think of the communist country of North Korea for example; where not only working in the country requires all males to have their heads completely shaved into a short crew cut, but even just generally living in the country itself; will require all males to follow suit (as long as one is living in the country; he must get his hair cut short!)... (This is "communism" isn't it?) (North Korea is also the country that can still threaten our peaceful world today, and hit the "Red Button" to perform global extermination by Nuclear Power... They are merciless, harsh, & brutal!... - This will give you the idea.) (I strongly pity those people who have literally "shaved their heads" just for those type of companies/bosses alone!) Please don't do it; you will really have a much better life elsewhere! Finally, when people tell you "God created you to be a man with short hair", likewise be one; however, I can also ask back the question "Then how come God allowed the hair on man to grow long as well???" Because if man was indeed destined to have short hair, then God would have limited the hair growth on man to be short & not even be able to grow past a certain limited length! (Think about it.) Think about it again; in a company, a long hair guy is rejected (or told to get his hair cut short) due to the reason that the job requires working with dangerous machines, as such, one is not allowed to have long hair (as the requirement); however, a women/girl also applied for the exact same job & role just after that guy, and her hair is even longer than the guy's hair...; however the company did not take her much longer hair as an issue at all, and employed her without a fuss...
