Would you hire someone who looks like you? Be honest. Later on, there will be people coming into this thread being all self righteous about not being superficial and focusing on your abilities bla bla. They ignore the psychological reality that many interviewers make their decisions on first impressions and only change them if confronted by a very significant offset... eg. very uncommon background or talent etc. So, are you very uncommonly educated, related (to other people) or talented?
And sometimes surviving amongst a pool of candidates, especially homogenous ones, is as much about not having obvious disadvantages as it is about having obvious advantages. If it happens that your profile is tied neck to neck with another candidate, you have unnecessarily provided them with a bullet to shoot you down with.
