porkchop : It's your call. You can send in any pic you want. Don't have to ask me. Though I am honoured that you want to send in one taken using my lens!

e-jump: The 85mm f2.8 SAM is NOT a DT lens. It is a full fledged FF lens, so no, there's no issue with framing 'lari' as with using DT lens. All framing 'lari' is my own fault coz sometimes I'm shooting in a hurry.

e-jump: Didn't get to test out the A77. Guess I'll test out the EVF when the A99 is here! Haha! I'm in no hurry.
I guess for anything held in MVEC, I need to go in the morning and shoot while the gals are still fresh. MVEC's a bit hot compared to other venues. I had quite a number of shots that had 'oily' faces when flash is used. Had to push the bounce card halfway down to reduce the effect. Didn't face this situation in KLCC where PC Fair is. |

Ok... here's a question for you guys to mull over..
Since Sony now has the 16-50mm f2.8 SSM lens do you think it's the end for the Zeiss 16-80mm f3.5-4.5 lens? Since both are DT lenses but the Sony lens has SSM and is a constant f2.8 which in my opinion beats the crap out of the Zeiss and is cheaper too. The only thing the Zeiss has going for it is the T* coating and that's it. Do you think Sony will release a new Zeiss for DT? I think not. I think Sony is reserving their Zeiss for FF. Your thoughts? |

QUOTE(zstan @ Oct 11 2011, 10:58 AM) Well according to Sonyalpharumors, Zeiss will NOT produce anymore DT lenses. Future Zeiss lenses will all be full frame. That's stretching it by a little, don't you think? hahaha.. extra 30mm for 3 other things wor... you could just step a bit closer you know... works most times I would say...And about the baby Zeiss, I think it will still have it's markets. It IS a Zeiss after all and I know many people would rather have that extra 30mm range at the expense of constant f2.8 , SSm and weather seal. Both lenses will have their buyers IMO. |

Agreed on points raised by zstan and kysham but I would say the Zeiss is catering for a very small group of users.
Back in the days before the 16-50mm, the Zeiss faces stiff competition from the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and the biggest factor is of course the price. While the Tamron is a huge gap away from Zeiss, the Sony 16-50mm has lessened that gap considerably while still maintaining a lower price. The 16-80 Zeiss is caught in a very awkward position. For budget conscious users, the Sony 16-50mm seems to be the logical choice. For those who are not budget conscious, they might as well go for the 16-35mm f2.8 SSM Zeiss and couple that with a 70-200mm f2.8 G SSM Even if you're not planning on going FF, the A77 kit that bundles the 16-50mm will deter a lot from buying the 16-80mm Zeiss I would think the 16-80mm Zeiss is headed for discontinuation. Of course this is all my opinion lah... |

alphazal : The F58AM does overheat under some conditions. It happens when you flash continuously using full power, which shouldn't be the case. If you are flashing in full power ALL the time, it means you're doing it wrong.
I've had my F58 overheat once. After that, I've learnt my lesson and have never had the F58 overheat again. Don't be afraid to use higher ISO to help your flash along. |

alphazal : The master/slave thingy depends on the body you're using. If you are using A900/A850/A77/A700 then both F43 and F58 can be commanders or slaves but for other alpha bodies you need to use the pop-up flash as the commander.
Talk about technology well, the F43 can give you better control as you can select power up to 1/64 but then again it has lower flash output compared to the F58. The most frustrating thing is that you don't have enough power on your flash to give you the results you need. That is the reason why most experienced user will advise you to get the top of the range flash if budget is not a concern. This post has been edited by shootkk: Oct 12 2011, 12:26 AM |

Not virus lah.. just funny behaviour on the part of the battery once it touches Zicron's cam. Need to put it in a battery grip to get it to work again. And my battery was at around 70% full you know?!
I put back to my A850, nothing! No power! Had to use porkchop's battery grip to test a couple of times before it registered at 18% on his cam. When I put it back to my A850, it showed 68%! Dun ask me why it happened like that... |

QUOTE(eddybeh @ Oct 13 2011, 06:09 PM) a very noob question, what happens if we manual focus at minimum focus distance? can we get sharp images? i just tested and the DoF looks a little farther from the camera. Problem is we do not know if we have exceeded the MFD. With AF we know when the lens cannot lock focus. When MF we can only rely on our eyes to see if the focus is correct.Try moving a little back and forth and see if the focus can get sharper or not. It may help. |
