Wait for Uncle Benny to give his review first. If he find it's safe to root the Note then he'll tell/post about it in this thread.
*
Will root it later this evening. Need more time to explore the stock rom

can someone who already owned this try taking a pic unedited and show us the quality?

Attached some pics - I just point and click using all the default settings. I am not an expert in photography. Resolution is default 3264X2448. Each shot turns up to be 3.4 MB

Ai Yah, cannot wait till later today. Has suvccessfully install Clockworkmod recovery and rooted phone
Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324225

The link does not explain some basics which the developer assumes the user will know
Here is the quick guide:

Download Odin 1.85
Switch off phone
Go to download mode : Home+Power+Vol Down simultaneously
Press Vol Up to select
Connect phone to PC
Launch Odin, you will see phone detected showing a Yellow COMM box eg Com 11
Select the tar file as PDA - do not select anything else - press Start - takes only a min plus and phone will reboot

To install root:
Copy the downloaded root zip into internal SD card
Switch off phone
Go to Recovery mode: Power+Home+Vol Up
Select update zip file
Scroll down to the superzip file - select
Phone will reboot and now phone is rooted with CWM installed

Does it have yellow triangle on 1st bootup animation?
*
YES, the yellow triangle appears
I try to use the USB JIG - it can put the phone into download mode but cannot remove the yellow triangle
Will attempt to look for stock kernel and test whether by flashing it can it be remove or not

Great to hear that ... Do u find browsing on Note lagging than SGS2 ?
*
No; browsing on SGS II also does not lag. Anyway I don't use stock browser - only XScope or sometimes Dolphimn HD
Is definately better than my ipad 2 and G Tab 10.1

so far do u found anything that u dont like bout the phone mr benny?
*
My only grouse is that my favorite launchers spd 3 shell and zeam does not work well enough due to the larger display. So I have to stick to TouchWiz for time being
All my favorite important apps - Friendstar, Tweetcaster, Newsroom, IM+ pro, Kaiten Mail, gReader Pro, XSCope Browser , Quickoffice Pro , Kobo, Laputa, EZPdf, Titanium Backup, VitalPlayer works very well. It basically performs as well as my previous SGS II - no regrets getting it
No comments on gaming as I do not play any games except EA/Hasbro Scrabble. Anyway will test out some of the free games from Samsung Apps store - now dowloading Aspahlt 6 ( 596 MB game data)

Dear bros,
Collected my phone about 12noon today..play play n test test.At that time, battery was less than 1/4 ,it just went dead about 6pm.
Does the new battery still need to first charge for 8 hours?
If so,cannot play..n need to wait!!

I`m also looking for micro sd card, class 10..any good recomendation?Went Low Yat today n can`t find a good brand.Just Patriot,RM220 5 yrs warranty n other che kai brand!!
*
Not necessary to charge 8 hours - this is only for those old NiCad batteries
I am using a DNA Class 10 32GB - cheap and good ( cost me rm 230) ; bought online from garage sales mobilephone section

Yellow triangle gone already.?
*
Not yet tried and solution is already posted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325117
Basically is a simple 2 step process
- used odin to flash stock kernel ( zimage format )
- Use CWM Manager and flash netchip kernel ( extracted to zimage)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An User at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330784 has confirmed the latest Sandisk 64 GB micro SD card works well on the Note

Can someone find out if the USB-OTG Cable can plug into a laptop and allow the laptop to connect to the net via the Note? Connection speed is always better when using cable, compared to going through Wifi, right?
*
You can just use the normal usb cable to connect the notebook. On phone just select usb thethering under hotspot thethering

Added on November 4, 2011, 9:10 amKomputermuzik: the usb otg can only detect fat32 formatted usb 2.5 "hard drive. I have tested - it works with my old 80gb but for my 500gb i need to power the harddrive. So for those newer harddrives 320gb n above you need the harddrive have additional port to power it n formatted in fat32

anyone know about the charging performance?

Amazingly fast - I estimate full charge from zero to 100 % in an hour using direct ac. The SGS II with a lower capacity 1650maH needs at least 3 + hours to be fully charge

QUOTE(AstonCheah @ Nov 4 2011, 10:53 AM)
Uncle Benny, your review on this note is ready? thanks.
*
There is no need any review. What I can just say is the best android smartphone I have ever used after the SGS II. It outperform the SGS II in so many areas . If you do not mind the bigger display, this is indeed one heck of a smartphone
I will rate it a 9.9/10
As stated before my only grouse is poor compatibility with 3rd party launchers: 3d spb shell was a turn off as the graphic images were displayed at half size. Zeam - lags terribly when swiping across homescreens. Tested LauncherPro - is better but the slight lag/jerkiness across homescreen is evident. Will be testing ADW EX launcher later
I do not quite like the original TouchWiz as the apps are not sorted alphabetically. I use an app appzorter lite to sort the apps alphabetically but end result I lose all the dock icons, left only an application icon. However the transition and smoothness among homescreens is still the best in TouchWiz
Those who complain about poor battery life and higher than normal warmness ( or some say hot) in the SGS II will not see it in the Galaxy Note

Someone asked will this replace my tablet - ipad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 : for me a definately YES. The larger tablets only offer a greater screen estate for better viewing. In terms of performance, I find the Note is better than Galaxy Tab 10.1 and very much better than my ipad 2. As I do not play any games, but I believe the ipad2 offers better and more alternatives in gaming.
I was comparing a 1.5 hour movie download from Youtube on the Note versus the ipad2 - what I can say the Note perform marvelously well with minimal disruption ( i score it 9/10) while the ipad2 just fail miserably ( 5/10) as the download keeps on disconnecting and playback was jerky most of the time. However the Note on youtube viewing still cannot match the smoothness in the Blackberry Playbook which I reckon offers the best browsing, youtube experience on a tablet

another holy cow! wow...

actually, too bad you sold off sgs2... else wanted to ask if its due to charger... can plus into sgs2 and see what happens... smile.gif
*
I did not use the original charger ; just use those normal generic USB port charger. I used it to charge all my gadgets - my other androids, ipad2 and tablets, blackberry 9860, Playbook. Infact my SGS II was sold off with all original accessories intact , not used

How about GPS and audio quality? better or on par with galaxy s 2?
*
GPS , satellite lockup as good as SGS II ; no complains so far. Sygic lockup within 2 secs and Papago X5 and Google Maps within 5 secs
Audio - do not see any difference with SGS II - just satisfactory only. Anyway I am not a audiophile guy but it can never match the iphone 4 quality
