Hi to all forumers and sifuuss out there.

First of all, I would like to wish you guys a Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Merdeka.  rclxms.gif
I am having trouble with my mum's car Proton Wira aeroback 1.3GLi 4G13P year 2002, manual transmission. (just verified with the Grant)

The car just went for top overhaul early this year (around Jan-March) due to the white smoke coming out from the exhaust and the mechanics said that its the valve seal had hardened. Change them and the car does not have any problem anymore. Throughout the age of the car, it is well maintained (service accordingly). My mum rarely use the car as she is more comfortable in riding motorcycle.

The car is running stock until few months back (around march-apr), my brother installed grounding cables and a VS.

During the mid of May, I borrowed my mum's car for my industrial training transport in KL, and to my surprise, I found out that the car pick-up is quite bad. At low rpm (especially after traffic light stop and start to move), i can hear the engine roar but there is lack of power to move. For instance, the car beside me usually overtake my car during a traffic stop. Its not so responsive. After a constant acceleration, I can feel that the power is back and the car is able to push forward. For instance, after 5 seconds constant acceleration (without further pressing the gas pedal) in gear 3, i can feel the slight "kick" before changing to gear 4.

My question is, what causes this to happen and is there any way for me to improve the performance without burning a hole in my pocket? Probably a minor performance change.

I had done some brief research and price checking on LYN and there are a few mods such as:

1. change extractor to 4-2-1  = rm100 galvanised steel type
2. LCP  = RM200++ jasma brand
3. intake system (performance air filter drop in type) = rm90++ jasma brand
4. short shifter (for faster shifting?) = necessary??  hmm.gif

If possible, I would like to remain the car as stock (minor mods will do) as after my industrial training, I will return the car to my mother. Probably will borrow it again in another 2 years time after I graduate.

Sifuus out there, please do advise on which mods to do first and so..   icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif
Probably if the first mods can have better pick up after changed, i would not go further into other mods..

thanks in advance~ notworthy.gif

Try to get better deal with the Jasma LCP, try finding fellow forumer the_catacombs. Price should be within RM 160. Extractor, try to check on the quality before buying. Drop in air filter, try getting Works Engineering/Simota ones if possible.

thanks bro peekaboo for sharing yr experience.

1. since you mentioned on the cap ayam extractor, is the power loss very significant? there is one forumer having a promotion and the price is quite attractive. it is a mandrel bent. btw, what is the difference of mandrel bent and others (and what are the "other" type available?)? Do i need to change the extractor only or the whole exhaust system?

2. easy hike in rpm means a better torque improvement right? which means a better acceleration? (correct me if im wrong) I heard some of the brands have damper together and some doesn't. what are the differences? how much is the installation done?

3. i've also thought of K&N but i found out that the re-oiled process is quite troublesome for my mother to maintain. Well, a 50+yrs old woman would complain as its quite troublesome. The jasma type only need to wash without any reoil and i thought it would be a simple maintenance task for my mother.

4. does it means that it's not necessary to increase the pickup right? if so, i will phase out (perhaps install this in future; at least not now)

thanks and hope you could guide me as i am learning..  cool.gif

Cap ayam also can one, but please check the quality first before buying, the finishing, the bending and such.

Damper ones are definitely better, but I hear they're also heavier, besides being more expensive. Since your car is not new, I don't think it might be wise to spend about RM 600 just for the LCP.

hi bro GEFORCEXTREME ,

1. how do i check the extractor quality? the how does the "finishing and bending quality" considered GOOD? sorry but i really dont have any idea on that. hope you could teach me.  notworthy.gif
btw, should I look forward to stainless steel type or the galvanised type of extractor? or perhaps consider to do the whole exhaust system (is it necessary?)?

2. yeah, i've pm-ed him before and its around that price range. Now just need to know on roughly the installation cost. Anyone that did before, how much is the installation?
thanks for clearing my doubts on the damper type. looks like i will straight hunt for the one without any damper.

3. i've looked into the simota as well but too bad, the filter need to be reoiled. Done researched and found out only Jasma brand and Redline brand of drop-in filters do not need to be reoiled.

4. short shifter = i shall leave this part for later as it doesn't give any performance improvement instead of faster and stiffer gear shift.

On the above option 1,2 and 3, which 1 should i do first? I had a tight budget of rm300 (plus minus abit)  sad.gif

please do advise..

thanks

I would do the lighten crank pulley first, or the extractor.
Regarding the extractor, unless I have any measurement tools, I'm just checking the quality based on common sense only, look for the workmanship of the welding points, look at the bends, are they smooth or they curve very sharply (logically you would want something that bends smoothly and not sharply), touch the inside of the pipe, are they smooth and things like that.
