Super Amoled Display Specifications for the Galaxy Tab S

http://news.oled-display.net/galaxy-s-tabl...isplay-details/

Super-Amoled features World highest contrast ratio Narrow bezel 30% thinner than LCD Tablet displays

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab S series, Samsung Display give us more details about the Super-Amoled DIsplay. There are two models available a 8.4 and a 10.5 inch with Super Amoled and WQXGA 2560 x 1600 Pixel and 360 ppi.
Color Gamut Underwriters Laboratories says that the Super Amoled display has a Wide Color Gamut. This OLED Display features
a 100 percent Adobe RGB Gamut which is really important for professional photographer. (UL Validated).

Samsung says:
Galaxy Tab S probably is the only tablet that shows the true colors to nature. This is important for viewing content, but it is also important for content creators. For content creators, it’s important to have a wide choice of colors to work with and a display that accurately reproduces those colors for high quality content.

The chromaticity diagram illustrates how the three additive primary colors — Red, Green and Blue — combine to express the spectrum we see on a display. The smaller triangle represents a standard RGB color gamut called sRGB, which most LCD screens support. The larger triangle is the AdobeRGB gamut, the standard color space for professional printing and photography

Contrast ratio:
This OLED Display has the highest contrast ratio of any commercial display today.
The lab says that the contrast ratio is about 8.000.000:1 which means deepest black with 0.00004 cd/m²
This measure of blackness “REAL BLACK”

For example, AMOLEDs express the deepest black achievable on a display because it simply can turn off the pixels. When compared to conventional LCD tablets, the contrast difference is almost 100 times better, achieving the true black. With the deeper blacks, you get so much more detail, even in the darkest areas in an image.

The high contrast level is also a advantage for a wider viewing angle, the goal is to view without any loss of picture quality.
Because of the high contrast level, it also offers a wider viewing angle. Viewing angle represents the angle you can view without any loss of picture quality. The Super AMOLED screens have a 180-degree viewing angle!

High Resolution Display
Screen resolution is the highest among tablets equipped with AMOLED Screens
WQXGA 2560×1600 Pixel 360 ppi at 10.5 inch 287 ppi

Light Weight
This AMOLED DIsplay is 30 percent lighter than LCD Tablet Displays
The 8.4 inch weight only 86 gramm and the 10.5 inch 148 gramm

Thinness
Samsung Display says that this new DIsplay is 30 percent thinner than LCD Tablet displays.
The Galaxy Tab S display is only 1.87mm thinn

Ultra Slim Bezel
The next record is the bezel, it has a narrow bezel up to 2mm!

LCD displays and Super AMoled produce colors differently, because LCD Display technology can not emit light on their own.
LCD need color filters, a backlight unit, a light diffuser for uniformity and other layers to create images. All these layers block out some of the light that would otherwise reach the eye. Plus, the backlight has to remain on constantly to produce the image, so it draws more power. It also tends to filter colors.

yeah it's good, but problem lies in price and availability...

Samsung is pretty much the only one making AMOLED in the world... and they ve not been able to meet the demand for it in mobile market... forcing phone makers, themselves included, to source for other panels... like Sony & Samsung's SLCD, LG's NOVA and IPS display, Sony's BRAVIA display, etc etc... all of which are LCD...

even Samsung's own Galaxy Tab are not using AMOLED...

another few yrs perhaps? the technology has been around for >5yrs already... it's the cost that's stopping makers from mass producing...
