Just wanted to chime in. I'm using a Dell U2312HM ultrasharp IPS monitor.

The panel itself gives pretty decent colors, and the backlight is bright. Viewing angles are typical of an IPS panel.

Biggest problem is that the panel has very high black levels, glows brightly when its dark. Also, the cheaper IPS panels they use appear grayish white when viewed at an angle in the dark.

For professional work, it's outstanding - the good color accuracy makes it okay for video and photo too, but if you're going to game or watch movies on it a lot (which you would probably do in the dark) the halo is distracting. It also looks bad if you have an NV surround or eyefinity setup - I would suggest getting a non-IPS display for those purposes.

The stand is leaps and bounds better than any other manufacturer's stand. Complete adjustment in al directions, very solid.

Great info and feedback rclxms.gif
Is the strong backlight or halo effect also noticeable under sufficient room light condition?

When the lights are on, it's actually there but after a minute or two, your eyes get used to it and you no longer notice it, unless you move your head around (the glow changes with view angle).

I should point out though, that this is an issue with low cost IPS panels of this size. Any 23" monitor you buy for about RM600 that is IPS will have this glow.

For the U2711, is it okay to use only hdmi or display port connection instead of dual dvi link for full performance?
*
Displayport has enough bandwidth to drive anything you're using dual link dvi for. Not sure about HDMI.

Oh ic. Because im gonna connect my Macbook pro + PS3 to u2711. Hopefully HDMI would be suffice to handle the WQHD res.

Btw, how's the 'IPS glow' for U2711 in comparison with cheaper IPS panel like U2312hm?
*
I don't have a U2711, but it uses a much better panel technology than the e-IPS used in the U2312HM and most other cheap IPS monitors, so there shouldn't be any noticeable glow. You should only see that sort of problem with cheap, small IPS monitors under a thousand ringgit.
