Embarrasing stuff. Not even sure wtf is going on here. The back four crumbled udner the slightest pressure. We looked as if we were afraid of even the shadows, looking to retreat rather than pushing forward. Our captain was hiding and would not even try to rally up the boys. No one tries to calm Suarez down, have they forgotten what happened to Masc few seasons back ? ffs.

Kenny needs give them a real kick on the arse or i fear a certain humiliation is inevitable.

I don't mind losing as its part of the game. But Kenny needs to find a way to cure this Jekyll and Hyde Liverpool. You jsut don't know which Liverpool will turn up. Sometimes we come out gun blazing, looking like a team capable of winning any championships. Other times, the team look the total opposite. Devoid of self belief and incapable to play even the simplest football.

get your fact right before post this , Aquilani just loaned to AC Milan and Meireles submitted transfer request means he dont want to stay. It is not like they want to stay here but we still want they go out.
*
I love the club as much as the next person but that doesn't mean everything the club is doing is unquestionable. I don't get why we need to adhere to player's demands just because they decide they no longer want to stay with us. I mean Modric wanted to leave Spurs and also put in transfer request, but unlike us they just told him to stfu and get on with his job. Same thing with Tevez with the manc. And things seem to have worked out fine for them. Obviously there's no point crying over spilled milk n all but people have rights to complain because sometimes you do wonder if we're starting to think and operate like a small club.

I totally agree with you..about skrtel 2nd yellow card, he should only check and mark bale and not make that tackle. furthermore at the time got another player come to closing down bale. From the 1st game against sunderland until now, liverpool need to train on their finishing and how they organize their attack. The defend actually are good. You can notice that because after losing adams the defender still can hold the scoreline at 1-0. And what make me confuse is how come all defender can beat Carroll easily on air. what a crap.
*
Actually I thought the defense is one of the reason why we were structurely poor. Our line was deep and this gave Spurs, a team with pace all over the pitch, the space to exploit. If i'm not mistaken, there was not a single occasion that we caught Spurs offside. We just backed off and gave away terrotority rather than keeping it. Losing Agger was pivotal imo as only him and Enrique are truly comfotable with ball on their feet and not afraid to go out and gain territory. Skrtel may have some experience playing rightback but last night it he was unconfortable playing there. He may be a hard defender to get past but he lacked the positioning sense of a true rightback and so Spurs only had to pass into space to allow Bale to outrun Skrtel. There was never going to be a real contest between the two when it comes to pace. This meant either Carra or Lucas were forced to alter their positioning which would then open up some space in the middle for the likes of Modric, Kranjar, VDV and Parker to exploit. And if you're Lucas, you wouldnt want to leave Adam all alone up against those players.

There is few reasons why I think Meireles goes to Chelsea.I can see Damien Comolli try to reduce the wages burden of this club.In this case I believe Meireles play a part too, he want to play in next Euro tournament and for sure didnt favour to sit on the bench where he sit on the bench against Sunderland and only come out as sub against Arsenal where he play in wide position. He is not young anymore and we dont know what AVB talks and promise to him but as far as I know he starts  last 2 matches for Chelsea.
*
That thought of moving on Meireles to balance the book did cross my mind as well. At that time, i too felt the outcome was for the best of both the club and the player but that's mostly assumption on our part as according to Comolli we were powerless to stop him from moving away. I'm sure the likes of him and Aqualani would prefer to play else where but it's not something we should be readily accept. I wonder if the club feels the same way right now, now that Gerrard is still a couple weeks away from match fitness and Adam is out due to suspension. Last thing we need is to rush GErrard back and risk aggravating his injuries. Perhaps, at that time it was financially benefitial for us but you do wonder if it was at the best interest of the team especially when the team could do with players like Aqualani and Meireles either on the bench or the starting sheet.

Under new ownership , it is not odd for them to save on the wages after so much investment been made to the squad. Many of us didn't aware part of our investment resources  come from players wages(poulsen+jova+joe cole). If Aquilani and Meireles still here , it do benefits us in term of squad depth but no point keeping players that unhappy.I been looking at Aquilani videos on pre-season tour and pictures , he seems doesnt have much friends here and doesn't always smile like other players in training ground.
*
It's not odd im sure but it may start to look like a questionable decision if we start losing more points. As it is now, we may have to depend on Spearing and Lucas yet again to keep the midfield in order so all that changes we made over the summer may have come to nothing. Aqualani may be unhappy or whatever, but have we forgotten how unhappy Masc was during his last couple seasons with us ? He too had problems settling down but we put our foot down and told him to stfu and get one with it. Torres wasn't happy but he kept playing and scoring until we decided to sell him off in January.

QUOTE(nando @ Sep 19 2011, 05:09 PM)
i won't comment on Aquilani...still an enigma but admit tingly, i actually wanted him to stay...but then again, its hard to expect him to stay when he was away for a whole season..

but Raul is a different story...i am not sure the real reasons but i think the moment the management told him Raul's place in first 11 is already `allocated' to Stevie G, its a clear cut case...and with Chelsea and fellow countryman AVB and possibly higher pay comes calling in.....its easy to see why Meireiles left...ITs a bit unrealistic to believe that all the new boys could click together instantly and once we have Gerard in, we'll be reaching for the stars....here we have a midfielder who scored good amount of goals...and changed the Arsenal game..and we just told him its okay to leave...
Overall i think the management placed a lot of faith on Henderson, Adams and Downing and expected them to shine and compete well....
The frightening thing is at times, they looked pretty normal....I am not saying they're equivalent to the likes of Paul Stewart or Julian Dickson..but there were periods during this season where they just looked like mid-table players....the thing now is how to click them together and turn them into a formidable part of first 11......

and yes, to me, Carroll is currently one of our Achilles heel...okay, i know we can't blame the boy....he's young, not 100% fit (BTW, how long does it takes for a full time professional foot baler to become fit?) and its unfair to blame the spanking by the Spuds on his shoulders alone...
But to me, until and unless he plays and threatens the oppositions like CL-quality striker...we're in trouble....serious trouble....
Who will bring the goals? Suarez again?  doh.gif

See that's the problem right there. I'm not sure if Kenny shares the same view as Comolli but what is the point of telling players whether or not they have a starting place in the team. This was exactly what Hogdson did by announcing the A and B team. It's counterproductive because it alienates the players as they are being made aware that they are being graded despite their talents and merits of their performance. I know Kenny has said that everyone would be given a chance but it's puzzlign as to why Comolli would say the total opposite. Unless of course the aim was to upset the player and force them to put in transfer request.

I have faith in the new players and i think given time they can work out. But lately there are some alarming displays by them. Adam looks fantastic whenever we're up against team letting us play our game but not against teams that attack us and pressing us aggresively. He needs to work on his atheletism and not linger on the ball too much. He struggled against Stoke and completely annihilated by Spurs midfield. Henderson, i can see some qualities in him but is he an upgrade to Kuyt ? Maybe in couple years time but i felt either Kuyt or Maxi should be give n the chance to play yesterday. Carroll looks a bit one dimensional lately, and i think the team knows this which is why we have gone out to buy the lieks of Downing, Enrique and Adam. But as Spurs showed and to certain extent Stoke as well, teams need only to press us to high up sever the link between the midfield and the striker.

Benitez was NEVER a defensively minded manager. He'll make well with 2 defensive midfielders, but there's nothing defensive in his approach. I dare say that he's by far the most aggressive-minded manager we had.
There's something lacking in your argument. He's egoistic? Probably.Buy-sell-buy-sell? Did you even have any idea what kind of budget he was running on? Who were our owners then?
anyways, what we've been needing, and sorely missed;

- a fitness coach like Pako Ayestaran; Liverpool's fitness were at the tip top most with him on-board.
- Kenny Daglish to have a more rotation based policy, and stop making formations to suit Andy Caroll. (for some reason he got the tactics correct for Newcastle, based on his paper collumns but clearly Liverpool isn't up for it)
- a sports psychologist. Its something other teams have but we're sorely lacking in it.

and if i may dare suggest:
Rafa Benitez as a assistant manager.

When Arsenal struggles it's Wenger working miracles under financial contraints. Under Rafa it's buy sell buy sell and buy sell. It's baffling.

some of my friends think we just get the tactic wrong yesterday. The real problem is the coaches still cant get the right tactic and formation to utilise Henderson and Carroll.Current coaches should work harder and study more about our opponents next time.
*
Yeah agreed. There were few questionable tactics yesterday. Why did we even play 4-4-2 away against a tricky team ? Why did we persist with Skrtel as RB. Why did Carroll stay on, especially when we were defending deep ? Why neither Kuyt nor Maxi came in to replace Henderson ? Anyways, I suppose we could count ourselves as fortunate for having to experience such catipulation this early in the season rather than much later.

As we are not competing in European this year , I expect the team will play much better.I believe Kenny has the experience to deal with this matter and expect something to happens on next match against Brighton.

Expected line up

---Doni---

---flanagan --- coates --- carra/wilson --- wilson/robinson---
---kuyt(henderson last 30 minutes)--- shelvey (gerrard for last 20 minutes)--- spearing --- maxi--

--- bellamy --- carroll (with suarez coming for last 30 minutes) ---
*
The back four looks good, i'd go with Robinson instead of Wilson as he has more pace and a natural fullback. Carra has to play alongside Coates i reckon, need at least 1 senior defender in there. It be interesting to see Skrtel instead of Carra but i doubt Kenny will drop Carra especially as he's the vice captain and all.

Henderson has to play imo. This is exactly the type of game he needs to play in order to grow, as he will be able to express himself better. If he plays i reckon he will be dropped against Wolves and either Kuyt or Maxi will play ahead of him. I'd go with Shelvey and Spearing as CM as well. Although i'm not sure how potent Brighton's team is. Maxi should get some game time on the left i reckon and Downing as sub.

Since we're missing Enrique, Adam and Downing, I think Carroll will struggle a bit so i reckon Kuyt up top with Bellamy. Not the best of combos i admit but i think Kuyt can hold his own against Championship defenders and he has the experience as well as leadership to lead the team.

Good goal by Suarez but a selfish display nonetheless. Could have pass it to someone else. If that din go in and we lose points due to that, I guess Suarez gonna regret for not passing !

True sols but he's a striker. Scorign goals is in his job description.

IMO It was the correct sub. Gerrard isn't a great CM and not to mention it's risky to have him play in CM making tackles. Suarez didn't warrant a sub but it was either him or Carroll. Suarez played well tonight, but Carroll still needs play time to improve and have better understanding with his teamates. Also, Suarez has nearly always been subbed towards the end of a match. He just wanted to stay on and play, nothing wrong with that. Kenny will deal with him.

I think what we all doubting here is whether KD trying to pro Carrol or is he making decision based on situation. Or even worse, he trying to justify his statement on Carrol and prove the world wrong. A goal up and you taking out your best player and putting in an unfit player who din play for 6 freaking months? That's seriously wtf.
*
It's a no brainer that Suarez shouldnt have been subbed, he was creating chances after chances but at that time i think Kenny was thinking more about the team rather than just one individual. I think his decisions are based on multiple factors but it's obvious he needs to prep Gerrard for match fitness and he can only do that by playing him. Likewise, he also needs to help Carroll find his top form and hte only way Carroll can do that is by playing more minutes. I suppose it does looks like he favors Carroll but he has little choice, we spent 35 mil on the player and some more on other players to bring the best out of Carroll. So he has to make it work one way or the other or the owners will ask serious questions on his purchases.

Ofcourse he took a big risk with the sub and it would reflect badly on him had it backfired. Frankly i thought he left it a bit too late for my liking. And initially i thought Adam needed to be replaced first and foremost because he looked really laborous in the 2nd half and his positioning was getting worse by the minute. But i suppose none of us would know for sure what's in Kenny's mind.

Can someone tell me what Henderson actually does for the team ? I mean what can he do that either Kuyt or Maxi can't ? I guess he's younger and has more engine in him but he has this nasty habit of slowing down our tempo.

Carroll played really well tonight, some really nice touches and movement. But i'm not sure what it was, maybe it was just some brain farts but he was flat footed when he came across a number of chances. Like literally, the ball just rolled inches away from him and he didn't even move a muscle. Suarez was screaming at the bench haha. And to add salt to the wound, Suarez got subbed instead lol.

Just to share my opinion about our no.9,

Due to low performance from him, I suggest that he is to be released on loan or playing with reserve team. Perhaps this can improve him.
*
Dude he had a really good game yesterday, just short of scoring few goals. His overall movement and link up play was impressive. He pulled off some nice touches that i never thought he had it in him, only occasionally he was slow to react and putting away chances. Otherwise, he worked his ass off and was a huge presence upfront and at times helping out the defense. We need to remember that he's not a world class player, at least not yet. He has raw talent and tremendous presence when he's up for it. He just needs special attention and some time to grow. Once he starts scoring regularly, he'll become a menace of a striker - i'm sure of it.

Negative - Even though win, kinda disappointing performance from Liverpool. Was expecting something much more from them. Could've draw or lost if 11. And I agree that the player totally didn't deserve that red. Adam, as usual fail to impress me. Everton down to 10 men but the men still back pass? WTF with that Kenny? Stop with all the back passing. Seriously. And the midfield needs so much work. It's gonna be rock hard when MU comes to visit. Caroll looked like he had no energy to play and Suarez still has that unhappy look on his face. Kelly needs to get back to his usual form ASAP! And again BACK PASS BACK PASS BACK PASS! STOP THIS MADNESS!

Positive - Suarez scored, Caroll scored. Enrique was amazing, especially with that assist. He's the best player in the team atm, IMO. Him and Bellamy combination are good, better than Downing+Enrique.
*
Nothing wrong with that to be honest, you backpass to draw them out in order to stretch them. The more stretched they are, the bigger is the space for your 1 extra man to exploit.
