The char siew fan in Jalan Alor is well known. I would give it 7 out of 10.
etigge, the Overseas Restaurant in Imbi, how much do they sell roast pork per kilo? Isetan KLCC prices it at RM69/K.

QUOTE(etigge @ Aug 29 2011, 08:47 AM) I think you mean the 'char siew fan' in Jalan Tong Shin. I don't recall any in Jalan Alor that is nice. Personally I never tried it but seen the stall with racks and racks of 'char siew'. Hard to find parking there. Or probably if I wanted to eat there, I prefer eating the beef noodle there Roasted pork at RM69 per kilo is cheap, are you sure? Because a kilo of pork belly is already RM25 to RM30. Factor in the gas/coal, seasonings, labouring near high heat and the 30% shrinkage, that's cheap. Please don't mix up 'siew pye' with 'siew chee'. Siew chee is the roasted whole pig which is cheaper and 'siew pye' is roasted pork belly which is the most expensive part of the pig. I get into many arguments with those ignorant 'ah sou's when they buy. They don't back down too I don't know the price in Overseas for roasted pork, sorry. The tin-roof shop in Tong Shin has shifted to the other end of Alor (further away from Sungai Wang), since quite a few years ago. yes, RM69/k for siu yeuk (roast pork) at Isetan KLCC is correct. RM69/K is cheap?? i thought that is expensive. Relative told me in small towns (e.g. outside Klang Valley), the price is around RM30/k but this was a few years ago. About a year ago, PJ section 14 in a supermarket was selling it at around RM60/k. But complaints from muslim customers forced them to stop roasting on the premises. Even MidValley you will find it hard to find them. Jusco used to roast on their premises but they also no longer do it. This post has been edited by ascend: Aug 30 2011, 10:07 PM

QUOTE(sailou @ Oct 12 2011, 02:34 PM) Went to Meng Kee, Jalan Alor on Monday for lunch. 2 portion of char siew and chicken + 1 plate of vege = RM32!! Although it is good, it doesn't mean you can do a daylight robbery on your customers. The place is barely filled. How many people can afford this price for lunch? Not coming back. Ever. Very pricey! the last time i went there was nearly a year ago. RM7 for a plate of charsiew rice. It was like 6 or 7 very thin slices. There weren't that many people there on a Saturday afternoon. IMO, overhyped and overpriced. I think it's the same everywhere now in the Klang Valley. You don't get what you paid for.
