Got an insider news that ANZ could lay off as many as 3000 people in Aus alone.....
in batches of course!

dude, no offense, but you chose the worst time to be working in Aus especially for banking....
almost all banks in Aus are laying-off people in the hundreds, and while i won't say your chances are excatly zero, but it comes close....
Personal suggestion is to let this bad storm clear-up before venturing in....
You don't want to be jobless in Aus and spending all your reserve money with no jobs in sight....

What about in accounting and finance industry? Any thought?

My husband just got his PR last month. We went with spouse visa route, and he got it within 2 months.

We did the application ourselves, and cost around RM 6.6k smile.gif Now planning the big move for early next year.

Thank you smile.gif The destination is Perth smile.gif

My husband did both his bachelor and master degrees in Australia, but has never worked there.
I hope job market won't be too harsh next year for accounting / finance.

I think there are other independent visas that only require 60 points. For those, I would need to get an 8 in an IELTS test...
*
I heard it is almost impossible to get all 8 in IELTS, unless if you are native speaker, but I could have heard it wrong smile.gif

When you say decent, do you mean no grammatical or spelling errors at all in day-to-day speaking & writing?

From Konichiwawa's reply, IELTS doesn't sound too bad. Good luck smile.gif

I've never done IELTS before. I got my PR 10 years ago under General Skilled Migration category, when it was so much easier than now.

10 years ago. Meaning right after uni? They had the graduate PR scheme. It indeed was a lot easier then.

Yeah, right after Uni. It was so much easier and no IELTS required.

I did all the application myself and got my PR in 2 months. Things were much simpler back then.

no.mine only 3 semesters so it's just 1.6 years

i never EVER considered for PR when i first came here until i got my TR(follow my gf) to experience the working life. i can't imagine myself if i'm back to malaysia to start over again with a salary that need to be saved for few months in order to purchase 1 thing and need a very special occasion day to have a nice dinner. yes,i'm too comfortable with my life here but i still need to face the fact :/

hihihehe,

How long have you been in Aust? I am not familiar with all these visa stuff anymore, but is there no other way for you get PR? employer sponsorship? family/relative sponsor? or maybe putting financial investment in Aust?

Moving back to Malaysia and starting over (after you work in Aust) is not easy. Been there, done that.

I did my high school and uni in Aust. I got my PR straight after uni and was working in Australia for almost 8 years before moving back to Malaysia because of family reasons. I find it hard to "adapt" to working life in Malaysia. Salary is the main issue for me, and yes I know what you mean by saving a few months salary in order to purchase 1 thing, etc etc. The cost of living vs income ratio is simply bad.

After 2 years in Malaysia, we have decided to move back to Australia. Things might have changed there, we are hoping the job market wont be too harsh next year.
