I'm fortunate to receive two job offers in Australia straight after my graduation.

Job 1
Location: Melbourne (free accommodation)
Salary: AUD 10k less than Job 2

Job 2
Location: Sydney
Salary: AUD 10k more than Job 1

I'm still indecisive about which job to pick.

I'm currently on a student visa and based in Melbourne. Fresh graduate with minimal experience, applying my TR.

How's the life in Sydney? Living cost and etc?

Thank you.

Congratz  smile.gif ! Did you graduate from the aussie local uni? Mind telling what's your major in?
For freshies, i think it's better to stick to companies that can offer better opportunity for growth in terms of training, project exposure, etc..
A higher salary will give you better bargaining power when you're seeking for another job in the future, but a free accommodation is great as well

Thank you. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in CS from an Aussie uni.

CS meaning computer Science? can guide me please which uni? one of my cousins want to go AU to study CS and work after graduation if u can pm or let me know which unis are good for job placement it will be good

Yes. I don't want to influence your cousin's decision. I don't think my university is particularly good for job placements.

One of my group partners attended same interviews with me from same university. I'm grateful to receive offers from all companies I've interviewed with except a Malaysian company. Unfortunately, the aforementioned person hasn't received any offers yet.

Depends which has the better career prospect.

In terms of cost of living, Mel wins hands down.

In terms of career prospect, Syd has more opportunities.

Note Syd accomm is way way more expensive than Melb. A dodgy cash-only room rental can easily set u back 200 p/week.
BUT Syd public transport, although a bit more $, is more comprehensive than Melb.
Syd is v congested, narrower streets, smaller living spaces, more traffic, aggressive drivers.

As a freshie, I am not entirely sure what to consider. What factors should freshie like me to choose a job?

I was offered above 50k-range salary (pre-tax), so I guess I can live comfortably in both cities. I don't really have to support my family.

I live minimally, and I've everything I need. My living expenses for the rest of 2015 will be as follows:

In Melbourne,

Weekly Expenses

Transport - AUD 36.60
Food - AUD 100 (eat-out only once a day)
Telephone Bill - AUD 5
Books - AUD 20 (usually 2nd-hand books)
Entertainment - AUD 20
Medicare - AUD 20
Malaysian Insurance - AUD 10
=====================
about AUD 200 weekly
=====================

I plan to fork out AUD 400 monthly to support my primary and secondary schools in Malaysia since they're only half-funded by Malaysian government.

In Sydney, I believe I have to spend AUD 200+ extra. although I will be paid 10k higher. In term of flexibility and environment, Sydney company is much better though.

I'm still in the midst of applying my visa, waiting Malaysian police clearance. =.= Does the bridging visa A allows us to work full-time? I couldn't find detailed info on the bridging visa A for 485. Immigration website only explains vaguely about BVA.

Hi guys,

I was having a talk with my gf and we were thinking of migrating to Australia for a better quality of life and for our future kids education as well.

The situation now:

1) I'm a Software Engineer (Information Technology)
2) My gf is a Medical Representative.
3) Both of us is 29 this year.
3) My aunt (mom's sister) has been staying in Australia (Pennant Hills - Sydney) for more than 30 years.

I would like to hear anyone's opinions on the questions below:

1) Should I look out for a job first in Australia?  If yes, should I do it remotely or locally?
2) Could my aunt be a great help for us to migrate to Australia? If yes, how should we go about?

Thank you and appreciate your feedback.

Your chance is pretty good as long as you have >7 in all IELTS sections and have more than 3 years software engineering related experience.

Since your aunt is in Sydney, you might consider applying VISA190. You'll receive extra 5 points.

I am not sure if medical representative is in the Skilled Occupational List though.

No points for relatives unless in rural area. My 190 didn't have this option anyway. If you've an Aus degrree (completed in Aus over 2 years), that's extra 5 points.

* extra 5 points for state nomination.

Visa 190 for NSW state sponsorship.

Yes, 5 point for state. Check NSW. They're the most tiring ones as there's an extra waiting period apparently.

Suppose I'm on temporary graduate visa, and my visa is expiring soon while I'm applying for my PR.

Will I be given Bridging Visa of some sort to allow me to full time until my PR is granted?

To work? You need to check with Border. There have been changes since my friends were on Bridging. State nom 190 is mostly dependent on the SOL. So, if you'rea recent grad, I don't know how that works out to be honest.
*
My occupation is on the SOL, but apparently the supply outweighs the demand, so... my chance is pretty slim although I have a full-time job in Australia. My company doesn't sponsor.

I will have just 60 points (my occupation requires 1 year working experience) by next year, and by the time my visa expires in 2017, I'll still be under 25, so still 60 points by 2017. sad.gif

My sister is Australian PR, and my partner is Australian citizen (I vowed not to marry to get a visa). I've read Border's website multiple times, and I've drawn a conclusion that I can only apply either Visa 189 and Visa 190. I'm disqualified for VIC state nomination as well.

My IELTS gives me 10 points. Is it realistic to push my IELTS to 8? I've colleagues who have taken the IELTS more than 10 times to just get 7s in all sections.
