i have the wrt54g, and I have got it working perfectly. Some games require nothing special to play online, like resistance. Actually I shouldnt say that. In order to play 90% of the ps3 games online you need to have your NAT working. When you "test ps3 connection" the last test it performs is NAT type. A lot of people say "use DMZ, use DMZ", well that works fine for games that dont require NAT. The problem is you cant use DMZ and NAT at the same time, not to mention that DMZ has the potential to become dangerous to hackers.
The solution to all of this is simple, kind of. Do not use DMZ. Do some searching for whaich ports certain games or features need. For example, NHL 2K7 needs port 4658. In order to do this, the first step is the most tricky. You will need to give your ps3 a static ip. Most routers use DHCP, which is fine, however you always want your ps3 to have the same ip. To do this, go into network settings in your ps3, and enter the ssid name and the encryption key you are using, if you arent using any of that, just skip this step. Then when it asks for ip settings choose manual. Set the ip address to something your dhcp will never use, like 160, so enter 192.168.1.160, and for the subnet mask use 255.255.255.0, and for the ip address of the router, unless you changed it, it is 192.168.1.1 and same thing for the dns server. After this step is complete, leave the mtu setting to auto and also leave the rest of the options to automatic. Now that we have the ps3 setup correctly, perform a network test with the ps3, if this is working go on, if not, something is wrong, and go back through your settings, keeping in mind that you may have netered your ssid name or encrption password wrong. Now log in to your router, and then go to the port forward section. Simply enter the ip address you chose for your ps3 above, enter the port range, so here its 4658 - 4658 and for type choose both. Then tick the enable box and save your settings. Your done! Using this setting i have been able to play Resistance and NHL 2K7 with no problems. Hope this helps
I have not tried this yet.
