As far as I know, many people reached manager level in Accenture around age 28-29 for consulting workforce. That is 5 figure salary.

From my experience, if any high paying jobs will require you to spend substantial amount of time and effort in what you do. Especially in making decisions and taking risk which contributes to the business side. It's always nice to earn huge salary but the higher the salary goes, the higher the responsibilities are.
As fresh graduates, the common type of motivation to work is more of getting more digits in the paycheck. However, as time goes, people will realize that working is not everything about money. If you have a high paying job but you do not like what you do, you will not last long in the job. There must be a balance between work and life. Certain type of industries pays a lot because of the risks at work and the requirement of being away from home for extended period of time. For eg., Airlines, Offshore Oil & Gas, Telco, etc. I don't deny that fresh graduates will enjoy the traveling, not to mention about the extra side income you can make from traveling. But as days go by, we will tend to get lonely especially if we are always abroad / away from home. Especially for those married people. |

TELCO is another industry that pay quite high but if you're workin with vendor not opetator nor subcontractor. Eg; ERICSSON, ZTE, HUAWEI, NSN. Possibility for working overseas as freelancer are quite high as well.

The figures they make is way more than what those permanent staffs are making. The only problem for them is the endless traveling and away from home. Like I said previously, all these have to come at a price of being away from family. So, for those who are single, this is not a problem. |

QUOTE(fizzy @ Sep 1 2011, 09:32 PM) I think i know what you mean. My boss' hubby works for Ericson in Barbados, a freelancer, contract-based. He can come home around 2 times per year, most of the time 1 year. According to my boss, his hubby loves the job, the working environment is great and and he brings back lots of cash as well. However, the price to pay is truly a burden for my boss. Just imagine, she has no maid, she got 3 kids, all are small (like tangga one) and evertime her hubby come back, she will get preggie I don't deny that working for Ericsson is indeed enjoyable. It has a great working environment and the benefits are good too. At least the company treats its employees as humans and not machines. That's why most people will love their job there and many old timers remained there until they retire.Like your boss' case, it's just a practical example of the extended period of being away from family. No doubt about the huge amount of money a freelancer makes, but money can't buy back the time that we missed out with our family. There's no way we can turn back the clock to let us hold our children's hands and help them to take their 1st steps, read them bedtime stories and pat them to sleep. I have an engineer working with me who is a freelancer and makes about USD7,000.00 a month but she left her 7 months old baby at home to be nursed by someone else (I assume is her husband looking after their child). |

Her hubby can quit and return home since i believe they should have gather lots of money over the years...still not enough???? Yeah, some said to raise a baby till finish uni needs 1 million each....they need to have at least 4 million now.... |

From my perspective, insurance company could have a big potential of getting the biggest price as they will continuous receiving the commission for the next 6 years.

The highest paying job?
Investment bank traders AND self made traders. A ex classmate of mine took home a paycheck of USD 250k within his 1st year working in UBS as a trader as a graduate (Switzerland) Also I know someone in greece making at least 5000 euro consistently everyday as a day trader. I am sure there are jobs that will earn way more but for the 2 positions I mention I know them personally. |

Depends on your perspective.
Good pay-5 figures a month (MLM,Agents,Insurance,High corporate positions) High pay-6 figures a month ( Exceptional Insurance agents-very very exceptional, basically exceptional commission based people, Investment bankers, Traders-Forex,Portfolio,etc) Legendary pay-7 figures a month ( Directors,CEOs and also Exceptional Traders) Btw I have been in commission based jobs and they do pay well but it has a glass ceiling. The highest agents out there probably peak at 2 million MYR per annum. And again you have to be extremely exceptional. If you really want the highest paying job-it's all down to good old self employment. They can make in one month what the highest agent in Insurance/Property makes a year. No joke. If I were to put a sample size of all my friends and contacts throughout the years. The highest paid are people who run their own business. Second highest would be investors/traders. |

QUOTE(RedJacket @ Oct 27 2012, 11:25 AM) Doesnt sound very good? consider working at Maybank or CIMB. on top of your salary, you get 1-3 years bonuses. Meaning,if your salary is RM3000 salary + 1 year bonus, your average salary becomes RM6000 per month. the sad thing about this is that you have to pay 26% taxIf your salary is RM80 k per month, including bonus, it will be RM160k per month. Sounds ridiculous? NO. but what i can tell you is that it is bluddy difficult to get into this field. And even harder to survive in this field long term. QUOTE(tr|n|ty @ Oct 29 2012, 11:07 AM) high pay..can consider like thisif you factory worker for packing chocolate. routine work. same action "pick up chocolate put in wrapper-> put inside container if you get rm 5 to 7 k then it is super high pay. if you are admin office cum secretary cum receptionist. working not routine work, pick up calls. do all paper work always work from 8 to 5 suppose to go home but have to work until all your paper work finish. maybe at the end up 7 8 or 9 pm earning like rm 1.5k to rm 2k then consider super low pay. if you work in US as janitor toilet cleaning hallway cleaner, you will earn 24k per annum USD around 2k USD per month. around rm 6000k will you consider high pay..but in US this is not high pay... so how can be judge high pay or not? |

QUOTE(RedJacket @ Oct 27 2012, 11) For Fixed Salary Jobs: Investment bankers are among the high flying jobs. WHY? For a freshie, alot of them would see the RM3000 salary as mediocre at best. Especially considering the the 15 hour/ day working hours sometimes. They wonder why work so hard for so little pay. Here's the thing. You start off with RM3000 salary per month, if you survive long enough, 5 years later, your salary will be at least RM10k-20k. 10 years later, your salary will be at least RM40-70k 15 years later, your salary will be at least RM80k Doesnt sound very good? consider working at Maybank or CIMB. on top of your salary, you get 1-3 years bonuses. Meaning,if your salary is RM3000 salary + 1 year bonus, your average salary becomes RM6000 per month. If your salary is RM80 k per month, including bonus, it will be RM160k per month. Sounds ridiculous? NO. but what i can tell you is that it is bluddy difficult to get into this field. And even harder to survive in this field long term. But if you do survive, you will be handsomely rewarded. As a comparison, for the BB IB, the basic pay is as follow: (bonus has been under pressure in recent years so typical bonus now is only between 6 to 12 months) Analyst - start from SGD100k to SGD140k per annum Associate - start from around 170k pet annum VP - start from around 300k per annum D - start from around 400 - 500k per annum MD - basic should start from around 600k per annum but most comps will be in bonus. Total package including bonus in a normal year should be around 2m. And one not so well known fact is that most of these banks pay global salary, ie the basic is about the same no matter where you are in the world (+- a little for living expenses adjustment). As such a first year analyst (fresh grad) in Malaysia is looking at around RM15k to RM20k a month which to me is grossly overpaid as I can get an experienced SM/AD from a Big 4 or local bank for that amount of money. That being said though, KL is mostly a coverage office and most banks have at most 2 ppl in KL including the senior bankers so it is almost impossible to break into the industry at junior level in Malaysia. Another not so well known fact particularly amongst young Malaysian is that summer intern is paid almost as much as a 1st year analyst so for people wanting to join the industry, please try to get an internship every summer holiday rather than sit at home playing PS3 and Xbox and partying till the wee hours and then after they graduate, go into interview saying that "I have a lot of passion for IB as I read FT, watch Bloomberg TV every day.... Etc etc....." By the time you graduate, if you haven't done an internship you are too late and will be significantly behind the competition. |

Each industry also has high paying jobs! Define high pay? 10k?
Each industry has jobs that pay at least RM10k per month. Well, of course, I would assume that the jobseekers are professionals with tertiary education. I am in the ICT industry and professionals with niche skills (5 years experiences) could get RM10k per month. But pathetically, RM10k is only SGD$4k in Singapore and that is basically like at freshie/2-3 years exp prof's pay? With our cheap currency, MNCs are finding us Malaysians cheaper to hire, with the necessary tertiary education (however, not necessary the right working attitude). We are slowly becoming (or has already become) a university graduates production country, with cheap labour costs. Thanks to our government... That's the reason why so many Malaysians left to our neighbours (SG, AUS, NZ, HK) to work. Nowadays, even you can probably earn more working in China, rather than in KL. Adding one more thing here.. "What are you doing in Malaysia? Go to Cuba, go to Argentina, go to Libya!" "Everyone in this hall likes how the government treat them!" This post has been edited by HappyA_Q: Jan 23 2013, 05:22 AM |

QUOTE(Jadedbanker @ Oct 31 2012, 01:52 AM) Not sure if you can make 70k per month basic after 10 years. Normal progression for IB is 3 years as an analyst, 3 years associate then VP. From VP to director at least 3 years but could take longer depending on how good you are in originating deal. From Director to MD will be even harder. If the banks in Malaysia is paying 70k a month for a junior director, I will come bank to KL rather than stay in the small red dot. Investment banking is good only if you can survive the hours and survive....well just survive. That is my dream but it is competitive and really sometimes want to give up. It is a game to see who can tahan longest. Sometimes I dunno if tax or advisory in big 4 is better? Do the partners there get more pay? Looks like my no audit colleagues not so stressed and crazy hours. |

Not true, Malaysia has high paying jobs just its limited. Only 1) lucky or 2) talented or 3)connected people get it. You have to fall in one of these categories to give you a higher probability to land these high paying jobs. if want to have higher paying job, leave Malaysia, permanently... |

QUOTE(RedJacket @ Oct 27 2012, 11:25 AM) Open up your mind.... wow! really can earn that much in local Investment bank? It seems like this is higher then O&G platform engineerI believe there is no since job that leads to easy money I also believe that just about any industry also can make you tons of money. Just depends on whether or not you want to THINK about how to get there. The examples I'll give relate to the FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY / BANKING / INSURANCE / PROPERTY only because too many sort of jobs out there. For example, a few forumers said sales (credit card, insurance, mortgage, loans, unit trusts, wealth management): This one really depends on how hard you want to work. Work harder, make more money (commissions) and work less, earn less. Also, a few other important attributes for this job include: Knowing the right people, being able to talk confidently, having the right attitude, and occasionally, it requires a brain to do this sort of job. I know ppl who have 2 years work experience in sales, and are currently earning RM15k per month in commissions. I also know of insurance agents who make RM50,000+ per month. What i realised is that friends of mine who start of in sales line are often enticed by the high start off commissions, and schemes (some of them get drawn into stupid ponzi schemes as well). They get attracted by the possibility that the commissions would only get bigger and bigger through roll over business/ recurring business. Its true, some of the time. In many cases, i see these people forever chasing after sales even when they are 50 years old. For Fixed Salary Jobs: Investment bankers are among the high flying jobs. WHY? For a freshie, alot of them would see the RM3000 salary as mediocre at best. Especially considering the the 15 hour/ day working hours sometimes. They wonder why work so hard for so little pay. Here's the thing. |

QUOTE(sonerin @ Oct 11 2013, 05:28 PM) High paying comes down to opportunity and some luck. Personally I hold a high paying job and some friends of mine also. It took long time to achieve but there is such jobs. When I say high pay job it is 15k to 20k salary job. Good luck and continue the hunt mind to share the job nature? |
