Boldly pushing the frontiers of what football clubs can sell, Manchester United and DHL have agreed to a lucrative first ever training kit sponsorship. Because sponsored shower towels just seemed a little too ridiculous.

From the Guardian:

QUOTE
The total, understood to be worth slightly over £40m across four years, exceeds the club's main shirt deal with former sponsors Vodafone, which ended in 2005, and is around half the £20m a year that Aon pays to be emblazoned across their shirt. [...]

DHL's logo will appear on training kit worn by first team, reserve and youth team players but only covers domestic fixtures.

The US company is banking on the fact that increased global media coverage of the Premier League will mean that its logo is heavily featured.

At £10 million a year, that means Man United's training kits are now making more money than Arsenal's actual match kits, which Emirates locked in
at £5 million per year over eight years starting in 2006. To be fair, the Guardian does point out that Man United's training kit deal is bigger than all
but five main shirt sponsorship deals in the Premier League.

Next up: Tens of millions of pounds for sponsored team chef aprons.

which is true.. 10mil for training outfit vs 5mil for match outfit?

the deal is including the naming right of the stadium which is £100 million for 15 years, the kit sponsor deal is for 8 years

they can renegotiate for more cash after the deal end and have the money to expand the stadium.

I'm not saying Arsenal is as popular or strong like Man Utd. With all the trouble Arsenal are having recently, Arsenal is not a good commercial prospect. Tho owners of Arsenal are not in deep shite..I mean deep debt. So Arsenal not that desperate for mucho money...

regardless of how deep a sh|t ure in, u cant refuse a better offer for the shirt sponsorship. put that deep sh|t matter aside, Man Utd is a better revenue generating company than Arselame.

Arsenal fans must realise that Arsenal is not as world-wide supported like Man Utd, Liverpool, Real Madrid or Barcelona. So iit is quite difficult for Arsenal to attract better financial deals and better players.

Arsenal was never a big club at least before Wenger took over.

Unlike other clubs who has won many major trophies, Arsenal only came alive around 1999.

And then spending on a whole new stadium while maintaining top 4 and relying on youth player.

But of course money does buy trophy from the chart.

Except for Tottenham of course laugh.gif

they are negotiating for extension of the deal after 2014, arsenal like long term deal for financial stability. the deal will likely be much much bigger, since Emirates themself admit their deal with arsenal now are worth more than the money they are paying.

Arsenal's current main shirt deal has an 8-year contract. Damn long. So I guess it's normal that it's not as high as the other bigger clubs.

When the contract ends, I'm sure they'll get very good offers.

Well, Manchester United went 26 years without winning the league, Liverpool have now gone 21 years without the title and Manchester City went 35 years without winning a trophy. Tottenham have gone 50 years without winning the league.
