QUOTE(I-Kurosaki @ Aug 24 2011, 08:01 PM)
Barely 2 weeks ago, I just had my ICE upgraded over the weekend at an accessories shop. I had the original 4 speakers (looks like thin reflective plastic cone to me) pulled apart and re-use the speaker casing. 6.5" speakers will be able to fit nicely at door chasis. Just to share with you guys on the ICE installation:

1) Tweeters are placed at the front mesh panels, where they are supposed to be in the 1st place. HM has removed the tweeters in order to make Insight priced 'competitively'. Recommended to slot in cloth in between the plastic panels and the surrounding dash before pry open with flathead screwdriver. Or else, you might accidentally scratch the pastic dash...I had mine scratch, but a tiny one.
user posted image
End result, the tweeters are attached to the panels by superglue. The cables are lined all the way down the pillar and routed to the amp.

2) Replaced all ori speakers with 4 mid bass at every passenger doors. Initially 'heartbroken' when sifu ripped apart the door trims, exposing the bare door chasis. He went ahead to 'destroy' the ori speakers so that the speaker casing can be re-used.

3) As for the amps, sifu creatively installed the amp at the front passenger foot rest, beneath the floor mat. Unlike the typical location at passenger underseat, tuning can be done without difficulties and the bottom A/C blower can cool the temp of the amps if engaged. Beneath the floor mat, there's a polysterene board; sifu just cut-out an opening to suit the amps.

Finished product. The amp is barely noticeable when I step on it. Hopefully it's durable enuf~! tongue.gif Im using Dominations ES 4-ch amp; its relatively small and light (fit perfectly within the poly board), decent output and doesn't eat up too much power from source.

user posted image
View when glove box was removed to allow cable connections. Take note of the dust & pollen filter (rectangular piece) next to the connectors.

4) The HU was partially removed as well to route cabling between amp. Be careful when try to remove the HU, as the metal frame of the HU will easily scratch the surrounding plastic dash that house the HU. So it is advisable to place a cloth below the HU during removal process

Fuse in between connections of amp and 12V battery.

Cable routing through the firewall on the metal chasis.

Overall the ICE setup cost me about 2k. The sound from CDs played is definitely much better than the stock speakers, glad that i got rid of them. The vocals are crisp and clear, and surprisingly mid bass is strong. Btw, Im using Dominations D'lite 6.5" mid bass for back speakers...they are good when tuned to woofer-like. Front mid bass are installed with Dominations D'lite pro and they are improved with kicker bass. I have no active sub installed as back mid bass has been tuned to take care of that.

I felt that placing the tweeters on the A-pillar could have better sound staging compared to being hidden within the front panels. Current setup still lack of low freq support, so in future I might look into shallow woofers and monos, at least they will not take up huge boot space. Due to the strong mid bass, all of 4 doors suffered from vibration, so might considered sound dampening as well to contain the bass. Haih, right now no more juice for poison & wife already complaining tongue.gif

For more info, those interested to upgrade their ICE can refer to watonk's ICE DIY guide & infinitium's ICE setup also. Will pinned them up if I have time.

wow smile.gif is that a bigger battery? any thing removed? does it void warranty just install a bigger batt?

what engine oil does is cleaning your engine take out all the carbon deposit and metel piece rubbing off inside the engine esp when its new car so after 5000km u can imagine how much dirt there is.. which is why no point going for fully syn even at 10k interval the carbon are too much rclxms.gif

Added on August 30, 2011, 3:04 pmnot forgetting it also lubricate your engine .. which is y the engine oil are so black when u take them out from the car

my paint skill is not that good to start with tongue.gif

that is just the base layer FYI

hopefully will get a better result when finish. gonna wait it to dry and sand it and paint it again smile.gif
*
i suggest you forget about it dont let it bother you after a while u will eventually feel numb if anymore come in

the job u done on the bumber are quite good d for DIY .. as normally it take 3 layer of coating and paint , some workshop does do a bit paint job they charge about 100++ to 200 if not mistaken will will sprey back a layer of outer coating and polish it back and it will be 90% like new rclxms.gif

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

want to add on to brother liokmin

cruise at 40-50KM for 5-10 sec u will notice RPM drop to 1k and car fully on battery for few KM if driving on flat land and no traffic in front any breaking they car will disengage the full battery mode or so call full battery mode lol

Credits to liokmin
QUOTE
Today I just found a way to trigger the 100% Battery mode.
When run low speed smoothly (no climbing hill) and when you see combine battery+fuel mode, release the pedal and re-engage the pedal very lightly, then 100% battery mode will cut in.
Any extra accelerate/ battery drain/ climb hill will trigger combine battery+fuel mode again.

For those who never see battery full charge, I see before.
Just try to maximize any going down sloping (sacrifice some speed) during your battery full -1 bar.

Well, I know Golf GTi cant smoke Evos, Porsche, Ferarris or even some Wiralution. No choice la but to smoke some Civics or maybe STOCK Civic Type Rs. I have always wanted to rev till 8K rpm in neutral then shift to D, but not on my own car. Do you think those showrooms allows us to do that?

Added on September 14, 2011, 10:35 am

Agreed, almost same horsies, 225(H) vs 210(VW) but 6.6s(H) vs 6.9s(VW). 6.9s easy to acheive with DSG gearbox. 6.6s can be acheived by mostly pros.
*
pick up the golf will lead by far at the top end the type R will come back depands on how far it goes lol

QUOTE(HoongYau @ Sep 14 2011, 04:51 PM)
hi guys,
  Did anyone of you notice that when switch off ECON, FC will better then ECON on. Mine can go until 20.5km/l (560km) with ECON off.

ECON on --> 18.4km/l (515km) ..

p/s: only drive at Penang town area (from home to work)
*
are u a heavy footer or light? personally if u are heavy footer best go with turning the econ off else econ on better the thing u feel diff is when u turn the econ off your aircorn will be cooler valve will all open for patrol and air going into your engine to burn while econ mode at low rpm some valve will turn off less air and less fuel burn but for heavy footer keep pressing more fuel and less air = more patrol cant manage to burn and most of the time leading to wasting fuel for heavy footer if u run on econ mode lol try it and u will get what i mean

Met with a minor accident yesterday, guy was double parking and I was passing through his car, and he simply opened his door without looking if any cars was passing by.. bang... hit my insight, dented my back door and minor scratches.. there goes her virginity after just 4 mths..  mad.gif

Asked Honda Workshop for a quote, told me RM585 for paint of whole door and knockjob, plus need to leave the car for 2-3 days. Screw it...
So off I went to fix the minor paintjob and dent repair today at Bdr Sri Damansara.

Right after the accident:
[attachmentid=2435378]

Getting tampal'd:
[attachmentid=2435382]

Into the operation room!:
[attachmentid=2435390]

Surgeon and Asst Surgeon examining and repairing:
[attachmentid=2435393]

All done! (this picture isn't really clear, as its in the spray room with poor lighting, will post one later on in bright sunlight)
[attachmentid=2435395]

The paints used, according to the surgeons, they are ICI paints, just the cans are different coz they mixed the color and poured into these:
[attachmentid=2435417]

Job was done in 6 hours, 12 noon ordered paint, finished 6pm.
Was pretty worried bout the color match, but luckily they really MATCH! and it does give the pearly glow too!
Told the surgeon I wont pay if it doesn't match, he said no problems lol.
Damage: RM190 (all in) rclxm9.gif
Imo, really excellent job, would recommend to any of you guys who needs his service. And most importantly, price is right!  thumbup.gif

Do PM me if you need instructions to the shop biggrin.gif
*
a lot of place got do this kind of job but if its a job well done no harm puting it in the front page smile.gif

We all know the car jerks. But I drive like a jerk now. Heck, I drive my Kenari faster than I drive my Insight.

Is it just me or are all Insight drivers obsessed with hypermiling? Even driving at 70 - 80km/hr on highway, I always manage to overtake a lot of Insights. I think we are the reason for traffic jam in KL now.

Cheers from fellow jerk in a jerky car.
*
haha anyway the highway speed limit is 80-90kmh in town area so who dare to compalin we drive slow haha i do drive slower than before i drive a satria all due to the green light haha

QUOTE(calvin_ng @ Sep 15 2011, 12:21 PM)
infact if I drive normal I get better FC compared to drive like a snail...

the computer onboard function to tell you if you over accelerate and be gentle on your throttle not drive like a snail...

it is to train you to press the accelerator in pace insted of slamming it to the floor...

there is a difference of driving eco style and driving slow... and slow doesnt mean fuel efficiency....
*
yes press the padal like if u are pressing a egg lol

sure do have a lot of handsome and lenglui in this topic ahha

QUOTE(I-Kurosaki @ Sep 16 2011, 11:20 AM)
kns, so busy until no time to troll LYN nowadays.

Got my trophy @ 7800 km months ago...but didnt manage to capture. It just pop out of the blue. I remember joshua bro got his trophy also around 7500 km. You can choose to reset them, but didnt bother to do it.

Nice stuff medklinn! Have one at home, but not for car interior. Definitely helps, especially I'm a sinus guy  blush.gif

Just to share my FC observed for the past 6 months:

Previous service - 10km
Next service - 15km

Trip detail to work - 45km one way (from Port Klang to Mutiara Damansara). Use NKVE, exit @ Subang Interchange. So averagely is 40% highway, 60% city (I dun consider LDP as highway btw)

FC with ECON - 20-21 km/l
FC without ECON - 18-19 km/l

All of this are observed between home and working place. I'm driving normally like my previous ride (1.5, manual) albeit more manipulation of momentum & medium throttle to 70-90km/h from idle, so I'm mostly in blue and dark blue zone from 0-70 (I dun crawl like snail and maintain green zone). Average speed on highway is 110-120km/h. Occasional WOT to 4k rpm for overtaking. (5k rpm with S mode).

So in summary, the FC largely depends on the right foot, type of journey covered and momentum manipulation. Oh yea, please monitor your RPM as well, it helps. Sometimes highway also can experience stop and go traffic ( vmad.gif NKVE  vmad.gif ), or smooth city driving, and these affect FC reading.

One thing worth to take note of our Insight RPM:
100km/h - 2000 rpm
125km/h - 2500 rpm

So it is still fuel-efficient to maintain speeds between 100km/h to 120km/h. Even myvi and vios can only reach 80km/h @ 2000 rpm (also observed from my sisters' cars)
*
maintain at 80-90 u will get 22km/l lol but hack i just cant tahan and end up 125km from SG back to kl lol

QUOTE(STC @ Sep 19 2011, 10:33 AM)
Just give a call and ask if ready stock available or not. If they say yes, go and see the car and then book. You should get them within a few days provided no problems with HP. If you go and say you want a car and place a booking then I think the waiting period is about 1 month.

I got 10 leaves only and not getting anymore. It is moving between 8 to 10 leaves. Let's see after 5000km. But I don't hypermile. Maybe, after 1000km I will push above 160km/h and see the FC.
*
160km will eat and burn a lot of fuel no need to test u will get 16-18per L i guess

Woke up this morning and found that my rear right hand side tire is total flat! Drove slowly slowly to the petrol station very near by (<100m) and inflate the tire. Drove to the nearest tire shop for checkup. It was found that a piece of small plastic like those from broken car lamp was stuck inside. The tire was patched and it goes well for now but the worry part is it probably cannot last!! The mechanic told me that moving with a flat tire could hurt the internal "wall" .. and could probably heat up fast and go burst while traveling long distance... WORRY WORRY. How true is it?? only travel a short short distance with tire flat.. Is there any method that could check the internal tire and its durability? Will be waste for changing the tire of < 6 months old... sad.gif  sad.gif  sad.gif

no worried la.. just check and check the tyre and look for sign of tyre wearing off else it would be strong enuff to hold on just dont over pump your tyre lol

1st scenario
using fuel shell V-power RM62~ around 20 litres I think,
travel from JB to KL, with average speed mostly 140kph++, econ mode off,
stated in the car info panel, 15.6km/l

2nd scenario
using primax 95, econ mode on, cruise control mostly on,
but gain 19km/l

but for both scenario, based on fuel tank meter, the fuel use almost the same.  hmm.gif
