ok, i hope i can get some enlightenment here from those who has experience rearing hedgehogs.

recently i bought one newborn about 3 weeks old, its a female. she is active and eat a lot but one thing bothers me. its her front right leg, it looks like twisted/ sprained/ broken to me and she limps when she walks. btw my bedding is recycled papers so i thought perhaps she is not used to the new bedding.

what suggestions are there? thanks

here are the attached photo, when it rolls up all the limbs should be inside right? though the pic of her sleeping looks pretty normal, i have another pic which shows her front right leg cannot bend at all. to upload tomorrow

3 weeks old? i though should buy hedgehog that is 2 month old will be better. btw, the leg not necessarily curl in as my cinnamon are not curl in as well sometime.. but if broken then you should take her to vet and bring it back to the place you buy it.. it start with the first day you buy or any accident happen??

I bought him a week ago. He's about 3 months old. I'm putting it at a friend's house now cos I needed to make sure is it the noise my housemates made make him scared. If he's still like this, I'm bringing him to the vet.

He was fine before. It just happened like two or three days ago. If I constantly move him from room to living room, will e become like this?  icon_question.gif

he should be eating a lot and active during night time.. have you check it out during night time? got bring him out to play outside the cage?

Meet my new Pinto boy, Kirio

[attachmentid=2552041] [attachmentid=2552043]

He is still shy and still timid, easily frightened. working hard to tame da boy.
He did the ball trap on me many times and now my finger bleeding ^^;; but it's okay

[attachmentid=2552045]

After many hours he finally opened up a little and walk around my lap.
And then... here comes the story of Cottie meets Kirio.

Both are 5 months old kids, Kirio is big and fat, while Cottie is smaller and slim.
Kirio is still scared of anything around him and doesn't really eat.

Cottie's not interested in him either...

*
some people call mite some people call lice and some people call flea.. all refer to same stuff...just follow ddr3 advice.. its same stuff.. bath with warm water plus dettol, sterile all its container and change to paper bedding..

btw.. mite can be see with naked eyes.. it not as small as you think...

just give them bath... beware of the amount of dettol in the water.. too much might blind your hedge hog.. remember to wash with plain water after the bath..

you're using dettol to bathe your hogs?

i mean this in the nicest way possible, did you not do any research prior to getting your hog?

dettol is really corrosive. try dipping your own hands in it. now multiply that tingly feeling by say, a hundred. get frontline for mites / fleas / ticks control. they're available at most major petshops and is even mentioned in the faq of this very thread. if you're looking for an alternative to chemicals, add apple cider vinegar in the bath water.

maybe you should read the dettol instruction carefully.. dettol are not suitable for direct usage and better to apply when mix with water. for hedgehog are using very small amount of dettol in their bath water and it work perfectly and no injury have occur. frontline was a very good mite control medicine but origin for fury animal like cat and dog. hedgehog are less fur and small compare to these big fury cat and dog.. and you sure frontine are not too strong for hedgehog? have you try spray frontline to your skin and see what will happen since you try the dettol on your hand already. besides, frontline are rather expensive and some forumer re not recommend using it due to its strong and expensive issues.. not saying it cant be apply but dettol are a good replacement for it.. no hard feeling.. just wanna clarify stuff. and one of the pet lover center people saying am i crazy for getting frontline for hedgehog.

its up to you since it only opinion from me la.. i using dettol for all my 4 hedgies and it really help to clean up their mites and until not nothing wrong happen as well.. you can try frontline as well.. but just seggest that dettol is more economic then frontline and not resulting any discomfort for my hedgies.

as a matter of fact i did. and it was recommended by a few vets that are known locally to treat hedghehogs. no hard feelings, but i would rather listen to a qualified vet rather than a pet store clerk. of course regardless of what you read and are told common sense would deduce that using such chemicals on such a sensitive animal is risky as is. which is why i clearly stated the natural option, which is using apple cider vinegar.

i myself do so and a few other fellow caretakers have followed my doing so with similar results.
*
then good for you.. since method are different then let the owner decide what they want for their hedgies.. i just giving opinion.. thanks for your comment as well
