Actually, Evah Pirazzi and Obligato are both high-end Synthetic core strings by Pirastro. The main difference being that Evah offers a bright sound, and Obligato, a warmer sound. Choice would depend on how your violin sounds. For example, my violin, a handmade violin from Germany, has a bright sound especially on the higher positions on the E-strings. But on higher positions on the lower strings, the sound is often muted by the higher strings (had one such experience playing Bartok's Romanian Folkdances). So my choice of strings would be Evah for G and D, but Obligato for A and gold E.

Well true. It is really expensive, but then the quality of the strings cannot be denied.

Really? Who for example? I know musicians in orchestras sometimes use Dominant because otherwise they will stand out too much but I cannot recall any soloist using Dominant strings. I do know that Joshua Bell uses Evah Pirazzi, Anne-Sophie Mutter uses Obligato.

Thats... actually pretty cheap compared to what they sell here... O.o

I know that some centres such as Chambers sell these strings for up to RM300+! The source from which I get mine costs around RM280.

I teach at a music centre and also privately, but I strictly only teach on one day cause I want to use my other days for studies. =)

I used to teach at Chambers too and seriously... the stuff they say and do sometimes.....
